What a coincidence! I was just fighting a Mig29 a couple days ago and finding the draw very difficult to break, let alone in my favor. Addendum: I've been having trouble keeping up to the Mig29 in the two circle deck fight, and in the two cases in which I won, it was because the Mig29 fought to the very last drop and then the pilot ditched, or because I took it into a flat one circle and closed the separation enough to force an overshoot. (Just started the F-16 this saturday.)

@VisibilityFoggy
@VisibilityFoggy 2 жыл бұрын
I actually don't think the J-20 would be a great platform for DCS. It's really more of an interceptor designed to try and take out heavies (tankers, AWACS, etc.) from long distances without being seen than a fighter. I'd compare it more to a stealthy MiG-25 than something like an F-22. It has a different purpose in the battlespace.

depends how long it takes for chinese specialists to put thrust vectoring on the J-20, bc right now without thrust vectoring in the dogfight itd lose every time to the F-22 and su-57. very cool plane tho, chinese engines have come a long way and its capabilities currently in BVR are probably hugely underestimated.

The two circle idea with the Viper works if either, a sharp angles gain can be made at the merge, or, if not, an immediate reversal and a very careful speed reduction causes the Viper to momentarily turn inside the opponents turn circle , followed by a very well timed early second reversal to reinstate the 2 circle fight, but from a better position. The biggest mistake most DCS pilots make with the Viper is that they try to rate fight it at 450 knots at max G. Doesn’t work. Although around that speed instantaneous rate can be very high, instead taking max rate and letting speed bleed to the 350-380 knots range at 6-7G works better to gain positional advantage. The Viper still rates well down to 270 knots during an energy excursion. I have won so many fights by surprising the opponent with the Vipers lower speed capabilities, resulting in snap shot opportunities. Contrary to what most DCS pilots seem to believe, the Viper sight is excellent and extremely precise, when acm radar locked. Voila, my 2 cents.

Going vertical costs energy, and both aircaft have a 1:1 or better T/W in a clean configuration. So, He can follow you into that maneuver and saddle up on your 6. Extending out in the vertical works only if your opponent is in a low energy state, and doesn't have: 1. An IR guided missile to throw at you... and/or 2. Doesn't have the smash to follow you. The neither plane in this fight have #1 today... but both have #2 because of their clean configs, and high T/W .
@stinkyfungus

@@jinzhang8241 True, if this were a mig 29 vs a low T/W opponent this is an option, say... a legacy hornet.... but a 16 can match that move. I think a tighten down and reversal would be a better option for the 29, its advantage is in the high AOA nose position fight. Tighten down, reverse, and then use that high AOA capability to force an overshoot. The 29 is better in a low energy state than the 16. Put the fight there.

Well in the case of the hornet it has incredible alpha capability and doesn't really gain speed that fast as something like a viper might. It's the perfect slow speed fighter and thus it works best in the one circle. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that though

You had chances to tap the AOA limiter override while you still had altitude. If you would have used this, you could have forced him to extend, which could have evened things up again.

The MiG-29 is general has more drag than the F-16 by virtue of being a twin engine, somewhat larger aicraft. It has a big advantage at noise pointing, high AOA fights though, as GS explains.

I do have an honest question.. if the viper is great at 2 circle.. why follow viper when he pulls away (tries to get distance)? if you want a one circle.. wouldn't you naturally pull away too to force one circle? at 3:43 timestamp.. would you not pull left to force one circle? If you do not want 2 circle.. counter as soon as opportunity shows itself. Do not chase the tail.. when you want the nose. IMO?

love seeing viper fights (hope u make some more BMS videos) by the way, the Viper also has a good turn radius as well, probably not as good as a MiG-29's but if it needs to it can go one circle.

If the F-16 drops it's nose towards the floor, are you forced to go with him (4:40) or will you get in a disadvantage if you slightly gain altitude for a later trade-off "altitude for speed" to make a dive and go for guns?
@fonesrphunny7242
@fonesrphunny7242 2 жыл бұрын
To put it simply: F-16 -> dive -> more airspeed -> more maneuverable MiG -> climb -> less airspeed -> less maneuverable The F-16 will make a faster turn and eventually just pull up behind the MiG.

GS, I love these fights, I've watching them for over a year now and I have others watching now too. I would like to see these fighters fight as if it is a real fight. Like the guns only F18 vs F16, and the F16 has all that power and much less weight. If they were fully tricked out it could be better?

@@GrowlingSidewinder lol, thanks for responding! Yes, I guess I could of been more clear. My dad was a pilot in the Navy from the early 70's to the mid 80's, and we use to talk about load out on aircraft, he has always said that the combat loadouts changed the flight performance. It may not be good gaming, they would be killing each other at BVR, but it would be interesting. I am a F/A 18 fanboy, to be completely above board. Thanks man for replying and have a great day!

I really enjoy these videos. But they all seem to be based on a fight to the death. Could you explain more realistic perimeters where a pilot might decide to run if the odds don't favor him or her? What are those perimeters and how are they dictated by engagement conditions and by performance factors of the aircraft?

The other aircraft are over performing. It is a known fact among Viper and Hornet pilots that the Hornet could position and then go for a sharp energy excursion for a snapshot against the Viper, but once it’s done that, it has burned its energy. That is, the old F/A18C Hornet. In DCS, the Hornet can just keep going. Seems something is not right with induced drag modelling at high AoA in the DCS Hornet. The Ps and turn rate diagrams are very accurate for the Viper.
@GrowlingSidewinder
@GrowlingSidewinder 2 жыл бұрын
yes, this has been my findings also, the Viper in terms of RATE performance is spot on, pitch rate could use some work, the other aircraft are vastly over preforming.
