There are two reasons why they missed some of the tanks.. the first is that each "puck" only has a limited field of view, so set your opening height based on the area that the tank group is covering. The second is that the weapon has no system to prevent redundant targeting, so multiple pucks can target the same tank, which is what causes some to explode and some to just be damaged. IRL the weapon does not explode tanks unless it hits munitions. In reality they will target the exhaust or the engine so often times they will only disable the vehicle.

Yup. If i have understood correctly everything (targeting IR + measurements with whattaheck ever it is doing stuff) and every puck just doesnt get a target. So as you mentioned. They (the little cute pucks) just dont get target everyone. Wow if they would... ^___- Wonder when that spin comes availble, dunno if slower or faster spinning speeds will affect just that (the accuracy of pucks but fewer spread or something like that?).. ?

It didn't get them all because they're IR sensing. If you watch the video closely you can see them double attack the same tanks. One of them kills the tank, then the other munition sees the IR signature from the exploded tank and says "swiggity swooty I'm coming for that hot booty" and shoots a second time.

Wind is why you didn't kill all the targets. The BLU-108's spend time under parachute drifting on the wind. This pushes them off target. Once the TGT WD parameter is available to set I presume the actual wind correction will be effective at adjusting the burst point so that the 108's drift over the intended target. Until then you've got adjust your SPI manually based on wind direction to put the 108's over the intended target.

you set the burst too high and the wind took them a little past their ability to compensate. Try 1,000 feet and 750 feet as an experiment (also, try 2,000) and compare results. SCIENCE! Also try different bomb drop heights. (More SCIENCE!~)

In the A10 at least, when I want a bigger spread for the cluster bombs I set the burst height a bit higher. I think 1500 is meant for road convoys or parking lots.

They arent all destroyed cos the puks arent smart. They attack the 1st target they see, so you can have multiple puks going for the same target. Those that dont find a target explode after so many seconds like a normal cluster munition

This guy is right. There are 10 submunitions in the canister, each of them has 4 pucks. The blu108’s come down on a parachute, then are launched back upward and spun by a rocket. They then release the 4 pucks, out in somewhat random directions and spinning. The pucks only fire in armor piercing mode IF they happen to randomly fly over a target and detect it. Otherwise, they go off in a frag mode when they hit the ground.

I may be wrong but the sub munitions don't communicate with each other. So the first target each one sees it attacks. Looks like you had multiple hits on some targets and no hits on others. It probably depends on high you separate sub munitions as to what spread you get over the target. Higher separation larger area of effect. Lower separation smaller area of effect. Like anything it probably takes some practice to get what height with what wind at target gets you the spread you need for the target you have. Kind of a mix between a smart munition and a dumb bomb.

The reason more weren't killed is that the 40 submunitions that spin off can't differentiate which targets have already been hit or not, they just detonate at the first "target" they recognize as not natural based on it's shape and IR signature, so you'll have multiple munitions hitting the same vehicles.

The SENSOR FUZED WEAPONS use a SENSOR, so setting the Burst Height to something like 3000 AGL is going to allow the sensors to pick up targets in a wider area, keep in mind that you WILL get redundant hits on target as its not AI assisted like the next generation of WCMD's will be.

I think the reason some missed is the random kill probability generator in DCS just has some miss on purpose. In the game's mind some missing is more realistic than all hitting. It's the same reason a missile will miss when all conditions are perfect. Find a target flying straight, level and at a constant speed. Fire two Sidewinders back to back. Guaranteed one of them is going to miss. It's that way across the board.

Actually the 10 canisters each spin up and deploy 4 submunitions. Those are the ones with the lasers / thermal sensors that fire shaped warheads, so each of these bombs contains FORTY little disks of death. Incredible!

They are not super accurate. Each puck has its own IR sensor, and their individual trajectories are random: thus only pucks that fly OVER a target will engage said target, the others just blow up like a normal cluster munition. Not the best explanation, but hopefully it made sense.

When creating the steer point did you put in the correct AGL of the targets? If the elevation is too high it will cause the bombs to go long! I was a TACP in the Air Force Also shoot your laser from the tgp (if you can {weather}) to get the accurate data

CAP the CBU-105 isn't just similar to a CBU-97, it is a 97 with a guidance tail kit attached. also each sub munition has 4 independent "Skeet" warheads that are released from the sub munition. so technically it has 40x bomblets total. the Laser tells the skeet how high it is above the ground and the IR detects a wide range of vehicle shapes and tells the spinning skeet when to detonate. each "skeet has a dual mode warhead, mode 1 is an armor peircing mode the 2nd mode is like a fragmentation grenade. they dont have individual targeting capability so it's likely than many of the munitions hit the same targets, or did not detect a target in which case they explode in anti personnel mode when they hit the ground. here is a video from the manufacturer about how the Submunitions work kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3zHd3aprsiMo5o

@@StoneCoolds i would do the 50 m and work it up. i'm not sure how the game mechanics work. i see several saying the wind caught them. To be sure i'd start at the 50 m point and work to the 100m. But these things work out to cover 4 football fields from real aircraft. So in seeing Cap's drop point and which ones were left alive, he was dropping to far in and the loiter munition never threw the disks in the backward side towards the armor. So he needed to drop earlier to catch them all. pokemon.

I’ve found at least with the 97’s that it’s better to attack at lower altitude because the weapon have more forward momentum. It looks to me that the canister falls very vertically in this video and the parachutes spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I think if you had dropped them from 10 000 feet you would have had a better coverage of the target area

I haven’t had a chance to try the 105s but with the JDAM and JSOW I have found that the guidance isn’t particularly accurate. You are probably seeing a combination of inaccurate burst and the parachutes drifting in the wind. I also noticed on your last strike of the VIS targeted units that it appeared you hit a few more of the targets on the runway.

You are not getting all of them due to your Burst Altitude. If you were to set it higher ( I like to use 2200ft ) you would have probably got them all due to sensors being able to scan a Larger area on the ground

i am new to ag with the viper. just out of curiosity, you took vis mode and looked for the target with the hud. fine tuning with the tpod, creating a spi with tms fwd. my question is, does this work with preplaned mode and the tpod spi too? i dont get whats the benefit with vis mode? that you can make a quick first spi with the hud?

I now have a different problem, with my F14B in the public open beta I can not use manual flaps anymore in the cockpit, flaps do not react when moving the lever until it is completely down or up. I only can completely up or down using my HOTAS. Am I doing something wrong?

But reading back my comment I can understand that it might be taken that way, sorry... It just seems that in the real jet that flap lever only goes fully up or fully down (if I'm correct), so it was simulated wrong. They therefore corrected that behaviour. Cheers!
