Hey, Cap. I was just thinking of one thing that I believe it would make your settings videos even more interesting to watch: You could use an facecam/webcam just showing your hands actually pressing the keys on the HOTAS as you go through the configuration. Because when you just show your screen capture, there's not much of a way for us to understand how you're mapping the commands in a way that makes sense for people who don't own the same controller as you do. I think if you showed us you actually pressing the keys at the same time as showing us the screen capture, we could have a better understanding of how you set up a good and practical keybinding, that could at least somehow work as a template for other newcoming DCS players. Also, people could give you feedback of possible better combinations and mappings and such... What do you think? Is this actually be practical for you to do? I remember Ralfidude, a long time ago, made an entire video of a simple small mission he played on the A-10C, showing screen capture combined with a camera footage showing his hands as he used the HOTAS. And each button he pressed, he subtitled what key he's pressing, and what function that key/command does in the sim. It was quite an interesting experience sharing for us.

the two position slide on the throttle, the one you don’t use. Map it to wheel brake. So when you push it forward, it holds the wheel brake in place like a parking brake. When you slide it back it releases the wheel brake. Very handy. Works for F18 too.

I'm way late to this party, but if you set up a profile in the X-56 editor, you can add WAY more functions to your stick. Just set the macros to the keyboard binds. You can use each of the 3 modes to perform different macros depending on the phase of flight you are in such as Start up/Special actions, Takeoff/Landing and Combat. It triples the amount of bindings you can set. Just have to make sure you clear the bindings in DCS with exception of the stick and throttle, or any buttons that you can't program in the profile editor.

If I recall correctly, the trim up is down (or forward) is down and the trim up (or back) is up, so you are pushing the button forward or backward, like the stick, against the pressure you are receiving until it is gone; essentially trimmed where you want it.

Hello, I actually have a Saitek X56 and if you compare with the real F-16 HOTAS it's very similar except for few things. Since DCS is a simulator and we want it as close as possible to the reality you can also show people how to set it up according the real system. Also, because you may want even more controls on your HOTAS system, X56, you can use the MODE M1, M2 and S1 to create modifiers to multiply your options, it comes very useful when playing DCS with a VR headset since it's difficult to see the keyboard.

Cap, you're a lifesaver. edit: I have an X-65F Hotas and I'm short two or three axis. The little stick on it acts as a mouse and the roller on the far left as a mouse scroll. What axis is more important, the manual range or antenna elevation? An additional note, the jet auto trims itself. If you're short on buttons you can skip the trim commands.

While pitch trim is rarely helpful, you’ll be using roll trim a lot to adjust for asymmetric loads after expending munitions. There a registry fix that makes the mini stick 2 bindable axes. Antenna elevation is more important than range since you have expand FOV on the TGP

It would be helpful if you could explain what the bindings are for. Different versions of DCS don´t always use the english names for the keys so its sometimes hard to know which one you mean.

Hey - Thanks for this. Some questions please. What does Axis Command 'MAN RNG Knob' do? I was hoping this was the Fire Control Radar range but doesn't appear to work? What functions are for the Fire Control Radar Range and Azimuth? Or, do I need to bind the MFD Buttons (20, 19, 18 etc) to my HOTAS? Thanks

Ahhh: - 'ANT ELEV Knob' = FCR Radar Beam Height. - I can slew the cursor up and down to adjust the radar range (rather than setting up/ down with a button).

I have the x-56. Which of the 4 springs do you use on your control stick? I'm on the lightest (blue) spring. I've noticed recently that moving the stick left or right makes a rubbing noise and isn't smooth in motion so minor adjustments are hard to do. Have applied some 3 in 1 oil but not helped.

Cap just curious for us guys with an x52pro is there a way to use the mini mouse on the throttle for the x and y axis for the radar cursor in DCS. I know on BMS 4 there is a registry hack to enable you to use it.

One will just interact with the mouse in case of need to use other controls as the AFM quality module will allow full or very hight direct interactibility of the cockpit? Hey Cap I have the X56 as well and I found the Left Thumb slider to be a great button for the laser designator. You slide it over and it keeps it on with out you having to hold it and you just slide it back to turn it off

DCS is sending me nuts. My Saitek Pro Flight X56 Rihno Throttle is controlling my roll Axis. I have cleared the Category for it. It zero commands in the "Axis Command" and "All Command" sections, but still. Is there a file somewhere else on my computer that it could be getting these commands from? I would like to lock an AMRAAM of some sort onto it (Delete it). Please help.

Ah, of course Cap is at it again with the helpful videos. Even though ED has been so nice to map my HOTAS for me, still happy about this effort you put in again. One note about the stick axis tune: apparently, the real-life FLCS (I think) already has a built-in axis tune with curves and whatnot, which seems to work in DCS too. I set my pitch and roll axis to zero curve and zero dead zone and it appears to work like a charm. You could give it a try and see if it works for you too.

Legend CAP! I am running the X52 so had to do lots of pinkie modifiers ... but have lots of buttons left.have made up a nice sheet now. a Couple of things I have noticed in Version 2.7 is a the end of your video, you assign the UHF AND VHF menu call ups.... well there are now 2 UHF (normal and voip) and the same for VHF. I set my x 56 controller the same as Cap. Dog Fight center is JOY_BTN24, When I use click up it changes to DGFT but when I let go of button it goes back to CCIP. What am I missing?
