That dogfight/catfight between Violet and Kortana establishes two things. One is that Kortana is a top class pilot. Second is that as Cap said a while ago is that Violet is one of those pilots with natural skill and that all she needed was experience. Holy hell, that dogfight with Kortana and Violet was some Top Gun shiz, that was fantastic to watch! Violet is like a mink the way she whips her planes around to go for a shot at every chance she can get and then springs clear, and Kortana is just a death-dealing machine. Mistakes are not allowed. (well, maybe one mistake. 😉) It was a GREAT matchup. Overall, one of the best gun and missile dogfight videos from the GR team!

It’s a great jet like had a lot of success in it myself that day. I shook our girl kortana up in the first dog fight and other wise I think her subsequent fights with vilolet might have played out differently. I enacted my plan o throw her off her game until we got to the deck and I could limit her options. I’ve had too many good pilots cut across the circle in a rate fight and I wanted close that door early. Best fight I had the whole match as far as the chess game goes.

Shoulda been part of the Top Gun: Maverick movie! So. I've been following GR for 2 years, roughly, and I've noticed a _yuuuuuge_ improvement in all your main pilots. A few notables: _KORTANA_ The Ice Queen. You're Calm, unflappable, and deceptively aggressive while also being patient. That is not an easy combination to pull off. I think you are one of the best all around pilots in DCS. And no, that's not being a 'simp' (a ridiculous bit of ad hominem doggerel that I see applied to most guys who compliment women for being great at what they do); it is straightup _exactly what I observe when watching you fly!_ The. End. _SUPERCAP_ Dude. You have improved like 2000%. I've seen you pull off some strategic masterpieces, turning losing cues into winning cues & getting the kill. Honest opinion? I think at times you get distracted by the duties incumbent upon the leader of GR. Meaning you're dogfighting but thinking about what makes a great scene for us Valued Viewers out here. You're thinking about making it exciting, about making sure your inimitable personality doesn't go too far & get ; and about a bunch of stuff, which may not be the only reason you have these lapses of concentration, but I bet it is a factor. At any rate, you're a way better pilot than you give yourself credit for being. _SIMBA_ (Did I spell that correctly?) Technically you're a very sound pilot with impressive stick & rudder skills. But what I notice most is, you are becoming a lethal aerial tactician. You often choose tactics that are almost part of the Top Gun book of WHAT NOT TO DO (🤣🤣), but you also often put a twist on said tactics and get the kill by performing some slick as snot maneuver that nobody expects. Also, you've mastered the art of constantly lulling opponents into underestimating you, then killing them. This is also a skill that Cap is acquiring, but you're the Jedi of that shit. Aaannnnd .... _VIOLET_ You are a big ball of natural talent. You're hyper aggressive, which is a great trait for a fighter pilot, but for awhile there it was all aggression tempered by nothing to counterbalance it. However, in the last, oh I dunno, like 4 months I guess, I've watched you bringing a tactical savvy into play that has vaulted you right on up into what I think is a rising star of DCS. Those 'catfights' with Kortana were some of the best dogfights I've ever seen on here. And trust me, anyone who can push Kortana like that is a force to be reckoned with!🤟🤟⚡🖖 If you keep it up, you're gonna be like _ULTRAVIOLET MURDER_ or something lol; don't stop, you kickin ASS! *Note: Remember to pull that airbrake back in after you use it. 🤣I've seen so many pilots in DCS say _dont use the airbrake,_ which I think is ridiculous. Every single damn thing you have on your jet should be used to get the kill! I've seen you use the airbrake to get kills before when most pilots are like CRAP HOW DO I DUMP ENERGY QUICK?,, (exception Mirage, which _is_ an airbrake🤣), ya just gotta remember to use it and and then fold it quick! A'ight, look I'm not tryna be this big expert or anything; I'm not, I just thought I'd offer some encouragement on the tremendous skill improvement I have noticed in GR since I first started following (y'all SATAL team is bad _ass!_ ). There are a few pilots that flew in this video whom I did not mention; this isn't because of anything but me being less familiar with you than the others. Want to win an HMD/HOB fight in the M2000? Go vertical or 1 circle immediately, also immediately cut afterburner and use airbrakes for maximum nose authority at near stall speeds (reminder that this fight is decided in a singular turn in a few seconds you won't need energy if you are dead), use vertical scan, slave magic ASAP and launch at 30° aspect (magic can handle those shots but only in 1 circle fight since the target is running INTO you and you are already leading the shot, and final step is to keep flaring the entire time and to double your magic shot for additional safety.

That was pretty much exactly the play I went for, but my radar got confused by the ground clutter just as I tried to uncage my magic. By the time I had reestablished lock, an AIM-9X was already coming up to vibe check me. If we repeated this test a few times, I think I could have gotten a few trades with Simba, but the advantage would still be squarely on his side.

if only the F-16 at 9:45 had stayed in the rate fight. the mirage it would have won it. with the mirage out of missiles, there's nothing it can do to defeat an F-16 in a 2 circle. the F-16 didn't have to nose counter, or juke, or tighten down after that. the shots that came across the circle already missed. all the F-16 had to do was keep it's speed up and stay in the rate fight. the mirage was slow already. the jinking only meant the F-16 dumped its energy allowing the mirage to slot in on its 6.

This is definitely correct. When I fired that burst, I was counting on him panic jinking so he'd go from a good position (which he might not have realized he was in) to a bad one that I could take advantage of. This is a bit of a hold-over from my WWII flying, where I will often fire near someone I know I probably won't hit to "encourage" them to turn to where I can hit them.

I noticed a short today that showed an incident that happened during us navy training in which B52s were used as Russian bombers to be intercepted by the navy defenses. The B52s got through due to flying as they have trained nap of the earth. That got me thinking if it would be an alternative for some of the scenarios you recently put on the channel. There are pictures showing the B52s flying so low that the carrier is masking them and it appear to include AWACS aswell although that may be more for fun as it would be weird having them flying anywhere near the enemy in an actual attack...

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven't seen you guys do anything related to the french Rafale recently, how would the french Rafale fair against other nation's 4th gen fighters in a dogfight? Maybe throw in the Gripen and EF as well for a nice Europe roundup.

I think the problem is, that there are no high fidelety models of those planes due to the trade and military secrecy around them. Thats also why germany has to buy the F35 because Airbus and LM dont want to share their technology and cant or wont fit the nato nukes on the EF. There are models of the EF but they are mods based on another flight model (SU something).

There is a Rafale in game BUT it feels very over-modelled, it accelerates about twice as fast as its contemporary fighters, hence we stay away from it. Which is a shame :(

I was always a big fan of the Mirage 2000, due to the french action comics I have read as a teenager. It's a beautiful plane, and I'm curious how this french design would compete against other Deltawing Jets like the Viggen and the Delta Dagger or a Rafale.

Can you do a sort of follow the leader, where the leader has to force a maneuver kill. A time limit could dictate who wins if the chaser survives. It'd be a great game for a mountainous or canyon area

when your in the f16, just stiffarm the mirage into a rate fight at the deck, the mirage won't stay with you for long and missiles can't turn with the f16 in the rate fight. just commit to the rate fight and you should be good against the mirage

Not that easy, mirages are dogfight aircraft. You will never out AoA the Mirage and missiles allow it to just slow down and kill you. The best way to defeat a mirage in a dogfight is to extend and come back and kill em.

the m2k can hang in a rate fight longer than most think and rate fighting only works if the opponent doesn't know how to counter the rate fight.

@@simba1113 Right, but tendencies of people with low bfm knowledge is pull people into the hud and try to kill when bfm is much more than just that. Fox 2 missiles allows that to work though. Mirages are solely dog fight aircraft in DCS because they only carry fox 1s and no data link. A good example you can see happen all the time is at 4:24, if the F-16 extended out he wouldve been at the edge of the missile wez and it would've missed. Even then look at the no HOBS / JHMCS, the mirage scored every kill except the one cap got which was a high aspect bfm shot too.

@@simba1113 however long the mirage stays in the rate fight, it will eventually get outratted by the f16 and if the f16 plays its cards right, it shouldn't lose to the mirage's counter rate fight tactics. The mirage doesn't have HOBS missiles plus the horrible gun sight, it'll be hard trying to get a good high aspect shot on an f16 who knows what they're doing

The 30mm shells the Mirage shoots are really scary, but the 20mm Vulcan's rounds are sufficient to destroy a plane with just a couple of hits (really, even one in the right place), so a higher rate of fire and more ammo seems like an advantage. The 30mm guns the Mirage uses (and the improved one in Rafale) seem almost like something you'd want in a ground support aircraft rather than as an air to air weapon, but what do I know?

Good video. Seems to me the F16 did better when there was less lateral maneuvering and more vertical maneuvering. I wonder if you treated the Mirage as if it were a Zero and try to play some sort of climb and dive or vertical circles game if that wouldn't go better for the F16 and it's more powerful thrust ratio.

The M2K is a beast close in, the F16 wins a turn fight at low altitude all day but the M2K has that one use handbrake turn capability to bring the nose round, but it then loses all its energy so is very exposed if it doesnt get the kill.
