If you like military flying, you should know that there is an alternative to the F-5B, the Piper Cub. Affordable, historical and versatile flight It can fly during the day and can also fly at night. It's not a fancy jet-era airplane, but you can feel the feeling of a ww2 army pilot. And let's fly f-5b with rc plane haha 😂

What kind of jobs do these guys have to be able to afford these? I would love one. On top of a 2-3 million dollar price tag, you have to have approx. 1000 hours flight time, insurance, maintenance, fuel, hanger, annuals, turbine training, adequate flight gear, oxygen systems and checks and other incidentals. The ejection seat maintenance and inspections are outrageous. I talked with a man who sells jets and he said that the cost per hour of flight time in one of these is approx. 3-4 thousand dollars per flight hour. He went on to say the average daily cost of just owning one, not in flight is about $250 per hour. Whoa!

It's not a matter of 'what job you have' as to 'what is your net worth'. Most of these guys own several businesses and have many income generating investments. You'd be a fool to get a $200K/yr job and blow most of it on a jet like this.... ...that's where you'd build yourself a nice RV-8 and have every bit as much fun as this guy does. Plus, most people who own planes like this try and offset the costs by offering training, rides, doing airshow appearances, or engaging in philanthropy in the case of old or rare planes where there is a large interest in keeping them flying.

Ive been looking at these guys for a few years and definitely interested in owning my own F-5 some day soon. Expect me to swing by sometime ;) By the way, what are the restrictions on flying these planes? Are you restricted of flying them at certain places? Or can you just file any type of flight plan and go?

the only thing I see that looks like F-5 on this is the intakes other than that I think it is a T-38 with f-5 wings. the front of the F-5 is not shaped like that. I worked on T-38 in the USAF and spent some time on F-5 also. Also C-130s

Mike W Wrong. There’s no such thing as a T-38 with F-5 wings for one thing, never been built. More importantly, the F-5B and the T-38 HAVE THE SAME NOSE (unlike other F-5 models), so that’s not a way to differentiate them. And YES this has F-5 intakes, also something NEVER added to a T-38, and an F-5 drag chute box on the tail. This is EXACTLY what an F-5B looks like, it’s not some imaginary hybrid.

Great Video, thanks for sharing. Only 1 problem however.....Your american flag patch is on your flight suit incorrectly. It is on the wrong shoulder for that particular patch ( :49 mark )

Who cares? This is a civilian flight on civilian flight rules with a PPL pilot. None of it needs to be military strict. It needs to be safe and cool. That's all.
