At different lighting angles, you can see the pilot’s eyes. A lot of concentration there! Nice little detail showing the 1 Squadron emblem on the t-shirt under the flight suit. Go RAAF.

Great footage. Saw the show today, blown away by both the Rhino and the Lightning II. The RAAF showcase was fantastic showing off the capability of the fast jets and the other platforms (my son has gone to bed cuddling the little cardboard model C-17 he was handed)! Go the Australian Air Force, and its superbly trained personnel--thank you! Does anyone know if the dual engine F/A-18F Super Hornet can out dogfight or out maneuver our newly purchased single engine F-35 Lightnings? Was hoping to see the Hornet pull Pugachev's Cobra (it is said to be possible when modified) or a spectacular tailslide--and also to see the Australian Air Force hedge its bets by investing in just a few advanced Russian Sukhoi Gen 4/5 fighters--because that's what we'll actually be up against here in this region, if the chips are ever down. Sukhoi's fighter hyper-maneuverability is always a joy to see (the jets can literally sky-dance) and I understand they are also less expensive. BTW, Soviet test pilot Viktor Pugachev, first demonstrated the Cobra publicly in 1989, at the Le Bourget air show--it apparently achieved the intended effect--stunning Western spectators who couldn't believe their eyes.
@rickykurniawann
@rickykurniawann Жыл бұрын
In terms of fighter jets, anything can outperform other anything. Employ tailored tactics, train well, master the advantage and disadvantage of the aircraft and you'll be one step ahead of your adversaries. But one thing for sure, the Super Hornet is the one of the best dogfighter out there with its incredible slow speed, high AOA nose authority.
@ngarewyrd
@ngarewyrd Жыл бұрын
No chance for the RAAF to purchase Russian equipment any time soon, if they were ever going to, it would have been twenty years ago. Now? Not a chance in hell. Even if the Sukhoi was cheaper (which it isn't, not really) it wouldn't fit into the RAAF Doctrine. And the Cobra Manoeuvre is just a bit of showy flying to wow 'em at airshows, Has zero real world influence in a fighting environment
@theotherphil

5th Gen fighters conduct operations at BVR. The F18 wouldn't get anywhere close enough to get into a dogfight with an F35
@Michael.Chapman
@Michael.Chapman Жыл бұрын
@@ngarewyrd I understand exactly what you mean :-) However, at the time we committed to the F-35 for our future, I’ll never forget one aviation expert’s assessment on Four Corners I believe, of the F-35 as being “Ineffective for its primary purpose” with associated comments that it would retard the effectiveness of the RAAF for the next 50 years. Might be false but those comments stuck with me. Then the whole argument that dogfighting is dead, along with need for hyper-manoeuvrability given the American philosophy that in future no F-22 or F-35 would ever come within 100 miles of enemy fighters due to a stealthy electronic battlefield. Still, is it a missed opportunity that the F-22 didn’t receive 3D vectored thrust?
@ngarewyrd
@ngarewyrd Жыл бұрын
@@Michael.Chapman There has been a long standing concerted effort to poo-poo the abilities of the F-35 by a lot of people, Most of those people who have the opinion that the F-35 is "ineffective for primary purpose" don't know what the hell they're talking about (see, Pierre Sprey, a failed jazz artist who moonlighted once as a thorn in the side of the folks designing the F-15) Hypermanouverability was shown to be less then important once we started making missiles that didn't need the plane to be facing in the direction of the target to hit And yes, The F-35 will get within 100 miles of enemies, even in US doctrine, They installed a cannon on the thing after all, but when you've gotten to that point, Shit has really hit the fan and you really should have bugged out ages ago. In terms of ability, the F-35 is one of the most capable weapons platforms in the world, just because of the software and radar suites. Add to that the teaming with the MQ-28a, you've got an effective tool that will be difficult to counter. Adding 3d vectored thrust on the F22 only adds complexity, cost and weight for near zero advantage.

Awesome show , haven't missed an airshow in a long time , Could use some more shaded areas , as seeing 50 + people with little kids all huddled under the shadow of a planes wing is quite sad ! and the traffic congestion was a disaster even compared to previous years - its pretty much a free for all on who rushes any way they can through the carpark at high speed and attempts to jam in-between the other patient drivers that have been in the queue for ages - could've been a fatality as some of the driving was atrocious . But still an amazing display .
