It sounds as if the old guitar is easier to play than a modern one. Am I mistaken ? I am no guitarist but hardly listen to guitar music because it allways sounds as if it takes a huge effort to get sound out of it. Here it just sounds easy and fluent. Nice piano also.

I play both and I wouldnt say easier. Smaller has the advantage, such as you have to use less muscular force to make a sound. On the other hand it requires more precision as the strings are closer together and much closer to the top of the Guitar. Also worth to consider is that all this 19th ct Guitar repertoire was written by Guitar virtuosos and therefore the Music is very idiomatic and effective for the instrument. And a good player can make full advantage of the virtuosic passages. If you compare to more modern Music, it is often composed by a composer who has limited knowledge of performing on classical Guitar, and therefore the guitarist might struggle more to give a convincing performance. This is off course very general, lets say you compare the works of Giuliani to the 5 bagatelles by William Walton. And you will have such a case as described.

Certainly that is possible be a little more easier in this guitar but this record is incredible, fantastic expression also with brave force and great sound for this small guitar, never Carulli was better interpreted!
