I’ve learned a few (much-simpler) Bach pieces and for me it isn’t a matter of remembering all the notes, but learning the song and remembering the melody in my head… after I’ve gone through the many many hours of learning the finger positions, when I play them now I just hear the song in my head and my fingers know where to go. It’s kind of like a maze, or walking through your home in the dark… instead of memorizing the number of steps, you memorize the layout of your floorplan

@TowerofGuitars8 ай бұрын
@@joszebNot really an improvement, just vastly more economical and practical. They used to say it costs ad much to keep a lute in Paris as a horse. Look at it this way, the parlour guitar was to the archlute what a ukulele is to unmanageable electric guitar rig with giant amp and pedal board. The real direct improvement over the lute was the pianoforte, as much as the harpischord, combining the full polyphony of the harpischord with the expressive dynamics of the lute. For additional context the concert classical guitar developed long after the lute had fallen into disuse- filling a more similar niche to the lute than the parlour guitar.

Bach was a devout Lutheran Christian. He took to heart Luther’s great praise of music. Luther believed that music was a gift from God that was present in all creatures and reached its highest form in humans. He said, "Music is a gift and grace of God, not an invention of men". Luther said that music is second only to the Word of God in terms of praise. He said, "Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise". Luther said that “music controls our minds, hearts, and spirits.” Luther said that music can drive out the devil and make people cheerful. He said, "The devil flees before the sound of music almost as much as before the Word of God". He also said, "Sacred music can encourage the heart, help fight temptation". and “Sacred music can proclaim the gospel to weary souls". Finally, Luther said that music is the only art that can afford peace and joy of the heart. He said, "I am strongly persuaded that after theology there is no art that can be placed on a level with music". Bach was choirmaster in St. Thomas church and composed so much church choral music of sublime nature. His music is such a gift and testimony to God’s beauty. He signed his name SDG Soli Dei Gloria, To God Alone be the Glory!

She plays a 13 courses baroque lute. There are 11 pairs of strings (it's called "courses") and 2 simple strings, the first and second. In total, there are 24 strings, but we play it like 13. Evangelina Mascardi is undoubtedly a master of the lute. Her interpretation of this suite is incredible.

In Will Scarletts era, lutes actually _were_ smaller and simpler.

Phenomenal, if not for her technicality, for her ability to memorize this entire piece, note for intricate note.

So very great played. It must be hard to keep all those strings in order. It,s really hard to play it on an ordinary guitar. Thank You for playing so nice.
