F@*k Icebox: How Valorant's Worst Map Became Its Most Important

There are a lot of reasons Icebox is the most hated map in Valorant.
People hate the way it’s designed, the way it makes you play the game, and even how it launched with a bunch of stupid bugs.
But for some reason, one man has always loved Icebox: Shroud.
And over the last few months, he's helped convince people that Valorant’s most divisive map might be kind of an underdog.
In fact, it might just be the most important map in Valorant.

Tbf, I never hated icebox and never thought it was huge. But when the content creators showcased breeze, I was scared for my life. I love the map, it's ideally what something from real world would look like in a game. And now as I play it, I enjoy it. But until the time it was introduced and until I played a few games on the map and got a good feel of it, it was scary af how huge it was. The map is huge like HUUUUUUGGGGEEEEE.

First time I played it, I loved this map. I'd say its my 2nd favourite. I absolutely hate Breeze, breeze is the worst map in the game. Icebox is open but gunfights in the bomb sites are close and personal.

I don't even play ranked(very casual gamer as of now) but even I like icebox. I think the problem is many people instalocks duelists whereas icebox is a lot of fun if you are playing controllers or sentinels. As someone who possesses very average aim, I only hate icebox when I get it during death matching.

Who fucking hates breeze? It is not as huge as they hated icebox. Breeze have more entrances and it is wider. Icebox is shit at first because of the verticality and chokepoints. Especially 50/50 angles. As shown here, mid is shit in Icebox, you can not split push using mid. Mid is fucking useless in attacking on Icebox. You are open to a lot of angles as you clear it. So the default is just one guards mid for flank, and push either a or b. Or fake b with 2, and then 3 at a site, and vice versa. Especially before, viper is not really picked that much, even pro matches in NA doesnt use viper before the buff. I only see it in pro scene in Eu teams. They are using the wall especially on B site.

With ice box its Open with many angles but In certain areas and in one site in particular it gets as claustrophobic as Split. If anything Breeze made me look and realize how many flaws are in icebox, Because icebox is the worst out of claustrophobic choke points/ tight maps and open areas with many angles.

Ice box is the map that screams coordination and insane utility usage. The more coordinate you are the more easy it is to take a site. Its like splitting a very hard job to five person. And every weak link makes it hard for the others to carry the weight of that weak link

Icebox is great when watching tier 1 teams play it as the strategical depth is very high on that map and the agent pool gets very diverse compared to other maps. Playing it yourself is decent now if you get a viper and a sage that is good, haha.

I remember hating icebox not because of its layout or the dozens of angles that you need to check, but because I always seemed to lose in that map even if I pop off and the enemy team still manages to come back. Besides that, I always knew that Icebox was something special because of the countless possibilities for creative plays with agents such as Cypher, Viper, Sova, etc.

What I figured in Icebox is you take mid control the angles there are decent. Wait for the sage wall to expire and go kitchen or take the initial fight on B if someone is peeking it. Don't commit to anything until clock is running out people will get impatient.

I learned to love icebox because breeze got released I was absolutely demolished by jett ops. What is that? You're smoking the site? Oh sry, unless it's viper, one of you is gonna die entering the site. What? You will guard the site? Lmao, you're gonna get op'd when you go out of cover, and get a grenade if you stay in place. Breeze is such a headache I had to learn how yo use skye because of how much flanking and how easy it is to be sniped. I can contest a vandal with a marshal but for the love of god why is op so OP there. Also, they should add a window to the wall in b(Idk what site but it has a wall in it) so we can actually work our way around it. Also, they should add a railing on mid, the highground where defender could watch mid, the right one, they could add a little railing on the right side, so that it would become easier to retake the tower, also they rearrange the metal doors, I really like it, kinda like a duel, I like the feeling for fighting it out in a straight line, with just marshals or any other gun(fk op) tbh.

I'm kinda grateful for random maps. CSGO is my main game, where we get to choose which maps we get to q for or which maps we vote off, and most of my games just end up on Mirage. If you wanna keep playing one map for 75% of your games then yeah maybe choosing which maps you q for sounds good.

This map went from being my most hated map to one of my favorite maps in the game. When dissected, it could be seen as pretty well-balanced in terms of side advantage and the size of the map means anybody could be a winner. Breeze, on the other hand....

I don’t play Valorant often, and just recently started playing more again. I’ve never had a problem with icebox that I remember. Im S2 ranked player, and for me its just a little hit harder to attack than to defend. But if you are patient with your attack and keep the enemy guessing, its pretty ok to attack too.

Always loved icebox. It makes my brain working on calculating movements the other team is going to do. It's really good to actually get used to understand how different players play and actually use that to an advantage. Understanding your enemy is the best thing to happen in this map. Personally this map helped me the most with that. It's chaos in a tight space and God damn me and my friends are crazy for it. It forces you to not rush in blindly and forces you to check corners forces you to think and understand the game. Of course you should be able to do these things in every game. But icebox really is just using every little space at your advantage. It's a small map that requires dominance which I love very much.

I hated icebox, but me and da bois got used to it. We all hate split cause of how claustrophobic it feels and it feels impossible to push a site. We actually like breeze cause aiming and use of utilities is rewarded more than just flick sprays.

I'm glad one of the professionals said it, that the real problem here was NA stubbornness. I come from the FGC where we see a lot of things that forces to adapt, and being relatively new to competitive shooters I've noticed that a lot of people just don't want to take the time to learn certain matchups or certain ways to play a map. Take Astra I remember when she came out my initial thought was she was going to be great. After playing with her, I was pretty confident that she was going to be a top-tier pick simply because of her baseline utility. However I saw a lot of people saying that she was bad and that she couldn't offer what other controllers did and I just couldn't understand why? I chalked it up to lack of understanding, but these were professionals saying that. And then I realize they're just stubborn.
