I purchased the F&V follow focus based on this review. The model that you review here is no longer offered by F&V. The model I received is plain vanilla-no vertical adjustment, no stops. The build quality is excellent, but no provision to change sides.

Nice review, My current favorite mid budget follow focus is the Shoot35 dual side FF. It comes in at about $650 US. I shoot with vintage Canon FD lenses a lot. I like that I can reverse the direction of pull so that it matches a cine lens.

Thanks for the comment. I haven't heard of that Shoot35 follow focus before. I'll check it out.

Great review. I am wondering how well it is built, so I guess I should set some kind of standard as this is a little subjective. I recently had a look at the Sachtler Ace FF (same as the Manfrotto Sympla) and it seemed a little "cheap" in build quality. I'm in Israel so getting my hands on a variety (B&H type superstore) is not an option. This makes "try-before-you-buy" a little difficult. If you have seen the Sachtler ACE FF, how does this one compare? Could you make a comparison to the SHAPE Follow Focus Pro? - which seems like it's a solid construction, albeit nearly twice the price.

+Avidcomp There is no comparison between the FV follow focus and Sachtler. You are really going to find no other follow focus in this price range that can compare in the build and features. It's not cheap feeling at all, which is why I compare it to two pro follow focuses I love: the ARRI and O'Connor.

Nice Lady Productions Thanks for your answer Nice Lady. This afternoon I ordered the Cambo CS-MFC-22 with the whip. It is the double rod mount rather than the single mount version. But I particularly like the "travel-knob" that can be flicked down to miss the hard stops so one could easily roll beyond them, and a quick flick back to re-engage.

I just don't get how you can pay up to 2000 (sometimes even 4k- 5k)bucks on a piece of gear that literally turns a knob that turns another knob -.- If I were to establish the prices, I'd locate the premium mechanical FFs at around 3-4 hundret dollars MAXIMUM. I think the only camera accessory that is even more overpriced than a follow focus in a matte box. Imagine paying 1k on a box that's open on two opposite faces, with a filter holder and the possibility to attach 3 sunshades... for that money, you can buy some good (or one really nice) lenses or a good camera.
