Lando’s qualifying lap was constantly on the edge, which while fine for qualifying, is not sustainable over a whole race distance. Max meanwhile not only made a mistake in his final complete qualifying lap, but he was also leaving lots of margins. Even so, he only lost pole by three-hundredths of a second. Interestingly, from FP1 and Sprint quali, the Red Bull and McLaren appear to have nearly identical pace. However, now that the car is doing what Max wants it to do, he’s making up the difference. Also, Ferrari appears to have better pace than both, as in sprint, they were fighting longer and harder than Lando had with George and still had both the pace and tyre life to overtake George and swamp Lando. Unless McLaren have a God-Tier strategy or get lucky with a well timed safety car, I think the fight for win and all three podium places will be between Max and the Ferraris. Concerningly for McLaren, they were bottoming out a A TON in qualifying. Not only does that mean porpoising, it also means increased plank wear. They have to be extremely cautious not to pull a Ferrari and Mercedes in COTA ‘23. P.S. a lot of people are talking about maybe McLaren not getting their upgrades dialed in properly because of the sprint weekend, but Lando was interviewed about this and the impression that I got wasn’t that it was a fine tuning issue, but that the upgrades didn’t work as they wanted. Now that’s not to say the upgrades are didn’t work at all or anything, just that they were expecting more than what they ended up getting from it.

my predictions for the gp are kinda blurry but i will try to explain with reason i think one of the ferraris might get the top spot tomorrow depending on the hard compound stint if it was better then ferrari sainz 1st and leclerc 4rth then for redbull verstappen 2nd and norris is gonna settle in 3rd place. so the top 5 are sainz verstappen norris leclerc and piastri.

I was asleep during quali but its going to be an interesting fight between Verstappen and Norris. A 54 point advantage at present to Verstappen. I was gutted to see Williams out in Q1 wirh both cars but its all to play for today, its all about going forward and maybe some strategy will work their way. Even though points seem unlikely with where they are starting, anything can happen and even if they both get close to points, it will be a good effort. Its nice its Alex's 100th race this weekend, its been exactly 5 years since I started supporting him. I started supporting him when he prpgressed from Torro Rosso to Red Bull so I have supported him through all his ups and downs and also his year in DTM/reserve driver at Red Bull

U cant go by the sprint results. Mclaren made some changes and so should be better. Even if max wins the title race is still open.

Max was nearly -.400 to Lando in the last run before Russel’s lack of skill moment. Mac didn’t lose out on pole because of a mistake

​@@KpodoKafui-y6d Mercedes is always strong on fryday. On saturday they are confused were the pace has gone and on sunday they fall through the field. This is the common pattern the last three years.

ferrari did have upgrades planned but didn't make them I'm guessing they would deploy them when the car feels unbalanced because rn it's looking like the fastest car

I think mclaren will find themselves back at the front when they understand the car better again, however Mexico is historically very strong for red bull and Max is a bit of a COTA specialist

​@@MrPulseF1 After the bib adjustment noise McLaren didn't look stabile. For qualifying the car sat exteemely low and looked therefore fairly stabile. See how this pans out in the race.

My prediction: (1) Verstappen (2) Sainz (3) Leclerc (4) Norris (5) Russell (6) Piastri and (7) Alonso. Norris is going to have a decent start but he won’t be able to hold off the pace of the two Ferraris. Long run pace of Ferrari is impressive as we saw in the Sprint. Norris might even struggle to keep Russell behind.

@@loveme21839 well first of all max was clearly managing the gap to norris . secondly there was no reason for max to push contrary to the ferraris who were constantly pushing and attacking. and on top of that max was clearly faster than norris so i dont know how max would need a miracle to even finish in the top 3. norris needs a miracle to hold on to that lead and to finish in the top 3 because max and the ferraris are clearly faster. the pole yesterday was just a result of max and the ferraris not putting it togehter in the first run and the yellow flag during the secon runs.

Max didn't make a mistake in the second last corner. Lando was just much faster than Max and even Oscar in that corner. He took the corner in 6th gear and almost every other driver was in 5th.

Max was getting pole at the end. He was up on sector 1 and going to be purple on sector 2. I don't see Norris even on the podium today.

He definitely understeered in the penultimate corner and had to back off more hence the error

He went wide into turn 1 and lost at least a tenth there as well. Plenty of margin if you watch the whole lap.

I think Max will win the Grand Prix but Lando will probably be hoping Carlos can get ahead of Max so that the gap increases only a little. I can see Lando getting 3rd place as a maximum but it depends on the tyres, red bulls pace and the free air because McLaren have been really fast when they get into free air but I’m not hopeful.
