the bravery to staying out while others pitted is that "luck". Luck comes for the one who prepared for that. Just like you say it was their teams overruling them, while they clearly said it were red conditions. What was the correct race strategy for Brazil? Don't pit until the inevitable red flag. Alpine and Max Verstappen used this strategy, and after the red flag, finished the race 1, 2, 3. I was disappointed in Lando Norris' postrace media interview. He took no responsibility whatsoever for his badgering the team to pit. He pitted, and it cost him. George Russel said he was angry because he wanted to stay out, but Mercedes told him to box, box. Max Verstappen had a drive for the ages in adverse conditions in Brazil. Congrats to Max on a great drive, and virtually sealing a well deserved 4th WDC.
@randar1969Ай бұрын
Max has in the past over ruled box order from RB even to the point Lambiasi got annoyed! But when Max did it he made the right call they admitted themselves afterwards. This created trust from RB. If you listen to the conversations between Max and Lambiasi it was more like Max we see leclerc pitting under this safety car situation and georga and lando are pitting too , when Max said he rather stayed out to keep track position and that he would pit under the following safety car or red flag there was no further discussion...Unfortunly for Russel he doesn't have that trust at Mercedes yet. Perhaps he would have had it now if he had over ruled his own team and be right about it. Teams have data certainly important but the drivers have their instinct and experience sometimes they know better what makes a great driver is too know when to refuse team orders. Remember that race when Norris wanted to stay out did stay out and Max who did pitted flew past him on wets? Well that was the wrong call from the driver obviously and then a team will say next time we order you to come in you will do so... Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose.

On the surface, that seems like a cynical explanation - but do Americans even know how to drive in the rain? My knowledge is out of date, but 30+ years ago, American domestic motorsport was red-flagged at the first sign of rain. Spectators wanted to see action at the highest possible speed. The rest of the world wanted to see (and still does) how skilled *real* drivers are.

How did Lando only get away with a fine for the reckless and dangerous false start? The lights were clear as were the messages - a tractor removing a car just off track in the wet with a driver there with a risk of someone else going off…he should thank his lucky stars that it wasn’t a massive grid penalty (He’s lucky Herbert didn’t think he was Fernando), thankfully nobody else went off during that formation lap and caused a Bianchi-style disaster. I am in the camp that sees luck as having little to do with Verstappen’s remarkable drive. Other than dumb luck, as a rule the better prepared you are the luckier you get. A red flag at some point was very likely in the conditions. So you prepare for it. If it doesn’t happen you have a contingency for it. Verstappen made the best of the conditions and of his equipment, he wasn’t waiting for luck. The fact that he stayed on track throughout and peeled off 17 fastest laps underlines luck having little to do with it.

How about 'lucky' when barely getting through Q1, or a obvious red flag just gets delayed enough to finish a qualifying lap but not for your main competitor,,or waiting forever to switch positions with your teammate while it's obvious a VSC is coming, and just when you finally do, seconds later that VSC appears. Funny how luck is seen as a one way street somehow although I'm doubtful how much luck was actually involved in those cases.

Only Stroll would drive into the gravel on purpose

I wonder, was it normal for session to be canceled due to heavy rain back in the 80-90's?
@2Fast4MellowАй бұрын
yes. If the spray behind the cars gets to extreme, they red flag the race. Or at least since the mid 90s when I started watching...

Stroll putting his Aston into the gravel like that was no accidentt, and the car was still in one piece amd the end of the race. Mostly.

@@KymIllman Ya totally was thinking of you the other photogs, the fans in the seats and all members of the teams at the track. I imagine it wasn't a fun day for you. The lack of open turnstiles would really of gotten me pissed!!! Not good at all for those paying fans. Luv your videos Kym!!!

Kym Given how busy you are at Formula One with photography, etc I doubt whether you get to watch a lot of Formula One as it’s happening on the telly But I have to tell you the bias from the British commentary particularly on sky towards British. Everything is at times mindnumbing. Now I know they funded by the British entity in sky but they broadcast around the world not just to Britain if they were only going to Britain more power to them But the likes of Croft and cohort are very one-sided in their commentary So Max is on the money in relation to that. I’m glad he had the win. He seems much happier but I do want the racing to be closer so good on Alpine

Sky F1 are atrocious, my South American friends hate their commentary, and we all call them the Lando Cheer Squad!
