@@VxG_Ghost Its not really outdated. Technically, there are still 2 Wet and 5 dry compounds. But the have different names now. It Used to be that each dry compound had its own name and color associated with it: Purple - UltraSoft; Red - Supersoft; Yellow - Soft; White - Medium; Orange - Hard. Now they are named, From hardest to softest - C1, C2, C3, C4, C5. Pirelli assigns 3 of them for the race weekend (c1c2c3 or c2c3c4 or c3c4c5, always adjacent) and then colors them with same 3 colors every weekend: Red - Soft, Yellow - Medium, White - Hard. for the purposes of the Grand Prix the Red tyre is always the softest, White is the hardest and Yellow is medium tyre for that specific GrandPrix. But commentators and viewers can always access info about which specific tyre is used.
@robot37592 жыл бұрын
Also for people curious, the covers they have on the tyres are heating pads so when the fresh tyres go on, they are warm enough to provide grip until the road warms them up. Same reason you see the people with the hair-dryer looking things, those are basically blow-torches used to warm the brakes so they have enough grip to stop the car until they get enough heat from general use. If you would want to see what a car would do without this, look at the Top Gear clip of Hammond driving a F1 car. Basically, he doesn't drive fast enough to retain heat in the tyres and brakes and spins out at practically every turn.

Usually they use the harder compounds on bigger courses like Spa and softer tires on smaller courses like Singapore and Monaco. Soft tires are for time attacks and overtaking while harder tires are for maintaining the lead.

Why are there only Pirelli tyres ? First there used to be Michelin and Bridgestone ?
@fastpace1017 жыл бұрын
Because money and consistency in the product. Formula 1 wants races with pit stops for entertainment value. If multiple tyre companies were competing they would make tyres that could last an entire race. Back in the day multiple companies was the case but nowadays the current system for what F1 wants requires one company.
@ninjakat89227 жыл бұрын
What fastpace said plus I remember a race somewhere around 2004-2006 where bridgestone had a compound issue and more than half of the cars couldn't participate becuase of that. The year after that they changed the regulation to all cars having the same tire manufacturer provide rubber for them

my honest opinion on the tyre markers is, that you only need markers for hard and soft and not 6 different colours. casual viewers dont know which colour means which compound and to be honest they dont care if this is the 5th softest or 4th. just have hard and soft markers and have 6 different compounds in the backround.
@De-M-oN7 жыл бұрын
But the drivers care which tyre the opponent is driving at the moment.
@De-M-oN7 жыл бұрын
And of course also I care about which tyre the driver used. This lets you understand why he got faster now, or: oh - verstappen switched to ultrasoft, but hamilton has just soft at the moment - how good can verstappen now perform against him? If you wouldnt see that, you would nothing know about such strategies and so on.
@TerrorRobin7 жыл бұрын
you dont understand what i mean. formula 1 choses two tyre compounds for the race weekend. so the drivers and die hard fans will know which softness they drive. i just mean the tyre marker which schould just say soft or hard and not 6 different colours. if you really want to know which degree of softness formula 1 chose for that weekend you can find it out somewhere.
