@felixschumann98806 жыл бұрын
don't think it affects airflow, but light won't bounce of it as easily, so its harder for the person in front looking back and the person behind looking forward to get blinded by light reflecting of the car

Felix Schumann What? That’s not the reason they do it at all. It might be slipperier if done right (think of a golf ball). They spend so much time taping the engine cover and other panel gaps just to save a few thousandths of a second a lap. I know the paint finish affects airflow or aerodynamic geniuses like Newey wouldn’t cover their cars with matte paint.

Andrey D I think someone asked the Mercedes team about this with their black livery this year and some engineers from Mercedes did a full thermodynamic breakdown showing that the extra heat a black livery gains from the sun compared to a white livery is absolutely negligible in comparison to the operating temperatures of the car and engine, to the point where engineers don’t even need to worry about or consider it.
@tylisirn4 жыл бұрын
@@bobbobbington3932 Yeah. Sunlight is a little over 1 kW per square meter of area. So even if the body absorbed all of it, it would only be single digit kilowatts of extra heat on something that already produces over a thousand kilowatts of waste heat.

I very much agree that we have a colourful grid again. I still think Haas' liveries are very underwelming. They are an American team, there is so much room for improvement. The Sauber/Williams issue should be fixed next year as Martini is leaving Williams, so they will have a new major sponsor. McLaren needs to step up as well in the livery department. I live the orange, but it's still a very lazy design .
@FortuneRayzor6 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's very underwhelming that Haas doesn't have red and white stripes and stars all over the car and bald eagle paintbrushed onto the nose of the car. And some FREEDOM FLAMES. (I watch a lot of RCR content btw)
@Dat_kiwi226 жыл бұрын
@@FortuneRayzor it just looks so corporate. It annoys me that there are people out there that make very solid concept liveries, and then the real teams roll out these bland liveries.
@FortuneRayzor6 жыл бұрын
I'd add to the video that livery not only takes a huge amount of time, it also takes a lot of iterations to make a concept idea to be as finished as liveries like Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. I think it would require some strong sponsor brand to "take over" the Haas' overall livery look to feel more familiar to the casual eye (like BWT in the case of Force India). Few shades of gray with red accents won't win the "design innovations of the year" award ever.
@grational6 жыл бұрын
Haas is a global team and provider like all of F1 so no US livery. Unlike other teams Gene Haas, a very cool dude (who I wish took over Force India) does not take on other prominent sponsors.The livery matches the CNC machines themselves (perhaps the grey-metallic suggests the metals being cut?) They are best of class in CNC. They could spice it up a bit and have improved from the last iteration - maybe more metallic but you do remember the car which is the point. I wonder if they tone it down a bit just because it an industrial-commercial rather than a consumer product. www.haascnc.com/index.html Make them faster still and then see how puurty they look. Go HAAS, Go Baby Go.

Livery and colors influences how people look at a team too. I noticed I'm a lot more interested in HAAS with their current color scheme and a lot less interested in McLaren since they changed their late 90's, early 00's look. And despite my disdain for Renault in general, their current color palette does soothe my anti bias and allow myself to enjoy their performance. Aside from performance and attitude, people are influenced by the aesthetics of the team and the sport. Hence why so many people opposed the F1 logo change because their previous one was fine. It had some cleverness to it with the hidden transparent *1* in there. Now it is extremely simplistic. Not necessarily a bad thing, I personally don't feel as opposed now than when they had just changed it.

This was something discussed in a reply chain to a comment, but I dont think it's been stated as a comment, or not in any recent comments, not seeing it in two pages of...so let me just give a bit more information. In .... 1904. I think.. there was the first 'Grand Prize' race, arranged by an English fella.... and he invited the manufacturers from around the world...which was essentially the UK, France, Italy, Germany and the US at the time... to compete. Identifying the cars was on the agenda, as even back then, the fastest of the fastest cars could get up some speed... well relatively speaking, for 1904..... so the organisers felt rather than a numbering system... colours would be best used too. Each country was invited to pick a colour. The British cars went with Dark Green... but each slightly different shades... hence, why actually, despite numerous makers having it as a colour option, there is NO definitive British Racing Green... actually..,. numerous shades of dark green are called such. The French with 'French' or 'Royal' Blue...but their interpretation of it, so again, there's not much uniformity on this, either but generally speaking it's narrower spectrum of lighter blue. Germany went with White... and over the years they argued that no colour is White.. so they nicked SIlver too... so hence White or Silver always being the default colours of racing cars from Germany. The US went with Blue too... a darker one... this colour is the base blue used on US sports cars every since, the Corvette, the Cobra, the Mustang....they all have almost the same blue...the White piping and highlights were later added, just to make sure there was no confusion with French Cars...since some of the latter have used much darker blue than usual over the years. So, the Italians, they chose Red, Corsa Rossa, Racing Red.... well it became known as such.... and this was the colour most early Italian racing cars went with there after..,. Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat, Maserati and of course, after WWII ultimately Ferrari. This is why Ferrari still use it to this day, and whilst they HAVE used other colours on their racing cars occasionally over the years, including a shade of 'French' Blue and Fly Yellow... they invariably default back to their national racing colours. This is also why Alfa Romeo have also used bright Red on most of their racing cars, though in recent decades as a highlight colour, on a white, black or shade in between base. It's also why as of a few years ago, and maybe this is changed now, EVERY car made in Italy, from a Fiat to Lamborghini was available in that bright shade of red (as for Lamborghini they are kind of unique in the world of automotive manufacturing, and almost herretically so for an Italian one, in that they've never really been in to racing, it became an unspoken policy just about). Over the years, other cars have entered racing, other teams, and they too continued this trend. Brabhams were 'wattle green' with 'Gold yellow' because they are the Australian sporting colours, meant to be evocative of the Wattle tree in bloom, and every Australian national sporting team plays in uniforms that are this colour, so default, Brabham went with that. Japanese colours are White, with Red highlights... the colours of the Japanese flag...and a popular colour combination for groups looking to indicate theyre Japanese... though unlike Australia say, not all their sports teams use this colour combo. Switzerland pre 1955, had a strong motor racing tradition, and we all know how many amazing drivers it has produced, so they took the Japanese approach, but inverted... like their flag... Red, with White highlights, and chose this colour... though I am not sure it appeared on much, they 'registered' it with the bodies relevant, for use if they wished. This brings us to McLaren. The reason for the Orange is indeed, a throwback to the early cars made when Bruce McLaren was still alive... but HE chose those, because the colour had become regionally, in the Australasia are, the unofficial Racing colours of New Zealand cars...which is highly unusual in this context... as unlike the UK or Japan were they do not have a dedicated universal sporting colours, New Zealand does, generally... Black with white highlights like their Rugby Union team (the creatively named All Blacks) or their Basket Ball team... (the actually genuinely creatively named Tall Blacks)... sometimes inverted... like their soccer team (the equally inspired All Whites)... so McLaren are the only team that when not using their own creation for livery, but the default national racing colours, to be using one NOT the same colour as their national sporting colours (Germany Australia and the US for example all have semi universal national sporting colours, and their default national racing colours match them... though the US drop the Red). Basically this applies to most developed countries, though they might not have teams or manufacturers and might not be in racing, they all have a colour scheme or single colour, that they claim as the default national racing colours. This is something that allows them to have starting point for their cars and bikes even if they have not gotten a ton of sponsors, and marquee deals, and not come up with their own livery, or have means to.

re: paint weights, you might want to consider why most airlines' liveries are nearly all uniformly white. it weighs less. colours contain metallic pigments which add considerable weight to the planes. (it's not, as you find some people saying, for thermal reasons). it's also in the case of planes because re-branding a leased aircraft is easier and cheaper if everyone's base colour is white (not applicable to F1)

There is so much potential for Alfa Romeo Sauber, only problem is that their primary colors are red, white and maybe black from sauber, which is really, really common in F1. But i am sure they can find a way to make it look both awesome and distinct. Problem is, Sauber has had tendency to do extremely boring liveries in the past... Lets hope that changes.

It developed from the place where the lives (animals) are kept (as opposed to other general store merchandise) - the livery (a [livery] stable; barn). I imagined this developed along the same use as "jewelry" came from jewels, "cutlery" from knives (that cut) etc... I'd call what is being talked about here as the paint scheme.

Who remembers the time of McLaren & Zakspeed? Both sponsored by Marlboro, both looking the same except for the other sponsorships and some very minor details. Or Scuderia Ferrari or Scuderia Italia? Both looking the same except, i think the wings were black on the Ferrari and Italia had a different colour, and minor sponsorships. Those were the times of hard to tell liveries

I have always wondered... RedBull and now also Ferrari, have matte paint.. Doesnt matte paint have a higher drag coefficient than a smooth clear shiny surface?

I'm really hoping Racing Point keeps the pink; or if they change it maybe go to another sweet color like lime green or mint.
