I hate and loathe turbo engines but even this sounds better than 2014 F1.

i believe you forgot that in 1986 it was making ~4bar (60psi) of intake pressure over atm pressure (FIA 4bar valve installed) but in 1988 Max turbo pressure was restricted to 2.5bargauge reducing the HP figures to 650 (iirc)with a 10% margin for error

According to record of Honda, at the time of the primary in 1986, turbo boost pressure was heightened to 7bar, and amounted to 1500 HP

hmmm that was for testing purposes only possibly... FIA made all teams install a 4bargauge "blow off" valve

just for info: as far as i know it is not 1500 HP. The V6er just got around 1200HP during quali-sessions. Honda said it is 503 kW so 685HP in race trim. But as more you read about it, as more numbers you get. But you always read that the most powerful 1.5l turbo was the BMW aka Megatron with 1450HP. Greetings Simmie

You cannot say that... not even honda... The dyno only read up to 1000hp wich the 1986 engine made at 9300rpms.... it kept rising up to 13000 so.... any number from those days is just a guess

The engines coming in 2014 will be more or less indectical terms of its size. Number of cylinders and turbo charging. They are already saying that they're getting close to 800 hp from a 1.6 v6 turbocharged engine. Amazing....

Actually they are getting about 650hp or so from it. But with the combination of the ERS powertrain, the car as whole pumps out to around the figure of 800hp or so. Oh and the turbocharging is different too; the Honda engine in this McLaren has two turbochargers and the 2014 engines will only have one.

RA168E track performance. The R rated performance was useable with Wide Open Throttle (WOT) on a circuit such as Imola with the smooth driving of Alain Prost for 64% of the lap 20. The Load Factor (= Average Power/Peak Power) would be rather less than that, since an engine, although on WOT, must have power gaps during gear changes and also must run over a range of RPM through the gears, small though this range would have been with the MP4/4’s 6-speed gearbox. The McLaren MP4/4 with the Honda RA168E engine, driven by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna won 15 of the 16 season races, 94%, and only lost the odd race through Senna’s impatience to get past a backmarker when leading caused a collision. The McLaren team had only 1 DNF which was engine-related - a faulty spark plug which finally caused a valve failure when the misfire was ignored by the driver. Overall 1986-1988 the “79-Bore” Honda TC engine had a 35/48 = 73% wins/races ratio.
