2012 was also one of my favourites. As much as I wanted Alonso to win, Vettel's charge through the field was absolutely inspired. That said, for Alonso to even finish within 3 points with that dog of a car was something special. That 1000yd stare after the race... he was absolutely broken. To think that, by this point, he'd missed out on 3 championships by single digit amounts... had the wind blown another way, we may have been looking at a 5-time champion in 2012 and damn he's talented enough to warrant it.

@@arranclark5232 What I meant was Lewis has a better performance coming into the last race in 2008 where a 6th place was enough to give him a WDC, while Massa had to not only win but Lewis had finish outside top 6...... All of this after he lost 2007 by just 1 point because Alsono couldn't accept that a rookie was as fast as him and became nasty.( I am not saying Lewis had no fault in that, but you would expect the reigning champion to be more mature than a rookie). But in hindsight, Massa probably would have made a better WDC in 2008. A heroic win on home soil to take the title - now that we know how their careers would proceed, I would rather Massa had own the WDC.

Yeah. He's a faster driver than Hamilton and many others on the track, but his unreasonable attachment to the wrong teams, and his temper lead him in the wrong direction. His talent was left mostly unused.

@Schuka Metin2 yeah, after it was clear to everyone that McLaren is favoring LH. They are even making up stories and legends now, thinking nobody remembers. Last I heard was that McLaren actually favored Alonso and that it's visible in Monaco 2007, when they called Hamilton too early in the pit. But then you find the actual race, full race, and watch it. And it's quickly clear they are lying, because LH was too slow, and couldn't match Alonso's pace even when Alonso came out of the pit with a full tank. McLaren was financing and training LH for 10 years prior to 2007, so of course they favored him. But Alonso refused to be the #2 driver, so they played with his setup, tire pressure and aerodynamics to make him a bit slower. And it worked out, but Alonso revenged to them later in the season, costing McLaren 100 million dollars in fees.
