Don't get too worked up about the rod #'s. And don't change them around. The rods may have been resized with the caps and everything the way they are. If they were, then they are fine. And if the plan is to have them rebuilt/ resized then it won't be a problem. Have them install some arp rod bolts, resize them and balance them. And if you want them to go a little farther they can also polish and shot peen them too for a little extra strength.

I believe that those webbed/ribbed outsides of the block mean it was an industrial engine, like for an irrigation pump. KZbin, Matt Kubik, has one in his ultimate highboy

I had my Dad's '73 and it did a pretty good job of taking care of the rust. I've been driving it for 5 years and it's still working-no new rust. I didn't have as much rust to deal with as you did but it was fairly substantial. Good video thank you!

Great project. I have any FE 360 question. We're tearing it down because low and uneven compression, but the outer row of head bolts (nearest the exhaust) were sticking up from the mating surfaces nearly 1/4", they weren't loose, seemed to be bottomed out? Anyone know how or why it would have been left that way? Thanks in advance

I have a 1973 f250 with a 390. I am thinking about doing a rebuild on it. Is that something I should attempt on my own? It would be my first rebuild. It is a decent engine that is currently running. Has a terrible rear main seal leak and timing issues under load. What do you think? Is this a good first engine rebuild project?

I've binge watched you f100 build videos and have thoroughly enjoyed them. You have done an amazing job. Wish you were still making content. Are you just a wknd fab'er or do you do this full-time as a job. You seem to have a ton of nice equipment.

@@330_garage3 Email them, super nice people, see if they'll donate or discount in exchange for advertising, for the episode(s). I don't like the Crown Vic swap for various reasons; Too wide, and that really limits the choice of wheels, the QA1 is a lot more norrow. The welding required for the rear mounts, and it's easy to install it "eskew". You still end up with old parts. And I've seen other Crown Vic swaps, and no one can explain/show the caster adjustment. QA1 is a bolt in. If you do the Crown Vic swap, maybe throw a plug in there about the QA1 setup and explain that it's "temporary" until a sponsor comes forward... Start a Patreon page...

@330_garage34 жыл бұрын
That 390 short block didn't have very high compression pistons in it, and after seeing the rods mismatched and the oil slinger on the wrong side of the timing chain... I don't trust it.
