Thanks so much for demoing the thermostat spring action! And giving torque specs. You rock!

Appreciate the in depth explaination and hands on examples. For a dummy like me it really helps me understand what's going on. Now I know what my problem is on my Ford thanks to you.

The "spring" is a bi metal spiral that contracts and expands with temperature. Much like the old style home thermostats.

Thank you for this, changed out the fan clutch on my daughter's 96 F350 this morning. Easy peasy lemon squeezy with the helpful hints provided.

If you perform the torch test as shown in this video, the shaft only turns approximately 72 degrees or 20 percent if observed on a pie chart. Do not expect it to rotate any more than that or you are throwing away $$$ purchasing a replacement. 1994 F-150 5.0 185,000 miles strong!

Great video of diagnosing the thermo spring thing, but you really didn't show us how to R&R it.

great video. thx for posting. getting ready to do this on my '89 Bronco. I've replaced fan clutches on other vehicle makes before. but this will be my first time doing it on a Ford. I know its sort of a simple procedure, but it is helpful to see a demonstration of it being done.

Cuestion . Is that ok if i replace the steel blades by plastic it will work fine??

Incidentally, the reason some fans have the thermal control is because the engine works harder when the fan runs. They're more expensive for that reason.

How hard should it spin when free mine is hard not real hard but harder and I had heat in my 7.3 idi really good heat but blower moter had blown up went through heater core and I replaced it truck won't heat up now I put new thermostat in it no difference barely comes off cold I don't know why I have replaced everything but fan clutch fan seems to spin non stop I'm stuck
@Foxboss93 жыл бұрын
Take off your fan clutch and using a blowtorch heat the spring on the end of it and see if the stem that the spring is attached to in the center turns freely. If it does then you still can have a bad fan clutch but most likely not

on my 2000 Ford f150 it gets hot when I go over 50 on the highway. I have changed out the radiator, thermostat and the hoses before
@Foxboss97 жыл бұрын
Rosman Morales if everything is filled up with no air in the cooling system and there are no leaks you may have a head gasket issue but definitely a flow issue.. Since you have a new radiatior then it must be a water pump problem.. As long as all other components radiatior, thermostat etc all all working correctly still... Not a fan clutch issue since you are over 40mph also make sure belt isn't slipping on water pump pulley.. Good luck. M

I don't mean to offend you Foxboss9. This wasn't my intention. You were thorough, I guess I'm just impatient. If it makes you feel any better, I tell my wife she's long winded too.

It's all good.. My Father In Law gets inpatient with my story telling and has done so for over 25 years.. So about 6 years ago I told him I would start being brief with what I had to tell him with one caveat ... And that was, after I told him my abbreviated tale, that he was not allowed to ask any questions.. Needless to say he now listens to the stories I tell him in full detail because he ALWAYS had questions afterwards.. His pet peeve is he wants me to get to the point.. Understood.. BUT my pet peeve is telling a story quickly then having to either explain parts of it again or answer questions.. Like I said, If I am brief in my videos and something doesn't translate on video well enough for someones understanding, then I am stuck in my comments section of my channel answering many questions, potentially for years as some of my videos will stay relevant for a loooong time.. I appreciate your comments and you aren't the only one that has mentioned that I talk too much during the capturing of the video. But the ratio of "talk too much" comments vs the "thanks for the detail explanation" comments is about 1 to a 200 .. Thanks for Watching! 😁

That's why there is a fast forward button... Until KZbin installs a slow down and explain it in more detail button,, I will continue to be overly thorough.. That way I don't sit all day answering questions in my comment section on started with why? and what if?
