They don't really dry up, but what they do is they pick up dust and it forms a film and eventually if you get enough dust in there, it'll turn into almost like a wax like you'd find on an old tractor. And those old tractors are left in the field exposed to everything and you peel off that grime and it's almost like new steel underneath there😅 I was reading and in the olden days they said that they would spray the car down with those types of fluids. Usually it was motor oil and not wool wax or fluid film and then they would drive down a dirt road and it forms a crust on the exterior. I use woolwax I also use black because it has the graphite in there and that hides the bushings and stuff from the Sun

My van calls for 5w=30 and I use the Penzoil Platinum but I use it with 10w-30. I put 6qts in and in the winter use 4 qts of the 5w-30 and 2 qts of 10w-30. In the summer I flip it and use more of the 10w-30. Good video. Happy Motoring.

Why not just use 5w-30 year around other then better cold start flow there is no difference in the oil thickness between the 2 at operating temperature. Also why wouldn't you want the better cold start flow it makes a difference even in the summer.

@@DeusKDuo 5w vs 10w and there's no difference? So why do they put different ratings on the container?
@DeusKDuo
@DeusKDuo 3 ай бұрын
@@mostlymoparih5682 That is for the cold the w stands for winter. It is saying when the oil is cold it will act like a 5 or 10 weight when cold but a cold 5 or 10 weight oil is still thicker then a 30 weight oil when hot. Even a 0w oil is to thick when cold. So you want an oil that flows as good as possible when cold but once hot it will act the way a 30 weight oil should. So in short first number is how the oil acts when cold which is always to thick and second number is how it acts when its hot so 30 weight is 30 weight despite the first number. They carry the different weights purely for marketing reasons. People will see 10w-30 on their oil cap and want it even though a 5w, and 0w-30 will serve them just aswell or even better.
@mostlymoparih5682

@@DeusKDuo 5w-30 flows like a 5 weight in the winter and flows like a 30 weight in the summer. The reason for running lighter weight oils is to get better fuel economy. Go look up specs for an engine from year to year and the only thing that they change is the oil spec. I have been changing the oil in my cars for 55 years. My dad worked for Esso and I have used his advice along with my experience and done pretty well. Companies don't their products to last forever, just as long as the warranty then they want you to buy new.
@DeusKDuo
@DeusKDuo 3 ай бұрын
@@mostlymoparih5682 The oil doesn't know whether it is winter or summer its flow is based on the temperature of the oil. After about 15 minutes of driving all oil is over 200 degrees. So whether its winter or summer its all 30 weight once the car is good and warmed up. 0w-30, 5w-30 or 10w-30 its all still 30 weight its not any lighter. Why would you not want an oil that flows better when cold where most engine wear occurs is during cold starts because even 100 degrees is still not warm enough for the oil. Here is an example of actual oil specs a 0w-30 oil and a 10w-30 oil at 212 degrees which is normal operating temperature of a warm car they are both at a thickness of 10cst but at 75 degrees which is a cold car during a normal summer morning here in california a 10w-30 oil is 100cst which is 10 times thicker a 0w-30 at the same 75 degrees is 40cst which is still to thick but much closer to the 10cst the car is meant to be running oil at. I do agree the lighter weight oils are just to meet cafe standards but a 0w-30 is not truly lighter then a 10w-30. In fact i run 40 weight oil in my mirage that calls for 20. All my cars run on 0w-40 all the benefits of running a ticker oil without the drawbacks of being to thick when cold.

It seems to be a good option to slowly clean up old engines or dirty engines. Basically you’re supposed to just use it for the long run because according to an interview, I saw cleaning your engine too fast is going to clog up your filter and those small oil passages. So if Valvoline wants you to use it for like four oil changes to see the best results.

Valvoline with Cummins Diesel made oil that would really clean inside of engine but you had to change filter alot. I've done few per Cummins trying for unstick piston rings worked most of the time. I've been putting FL820 on my 15 Mustang GT since new or Ford racing version time to time. Then wife's 14 Escape I asked her what mileage was on last oil change. She says it was done in March I'm like so what don't care about the date only mileage. It has 4200 miles on oil change, I said it needs to be changed and she's like why it was just done. I really think people don't think about maintenance because its not broken yet. Just drive it until every warning light on and wheels falling off. Then get shock of the cost to fix it and then go on every social media site claiming car a piece of crap. Her son drove Dodge Durango with his kids inside down interstate with upper and lower ball joint about ready to pop out and hub bearings out. Only thing that kept from coming apart was brake calipers. It broke one of caliper bolts and was rubbing the wheel. He didn't hear a thing you got to be kidding me. But I noticed grease dripping from front hubs collecting on pavement. Besides smelling brakes and smoking some and he's like really I didn't notice and claims it drove ok. He wonders why he has to get different car all the time

@@FordBossMeCurious, if using a thicker oil, wouldn’t it move slower and also hold onto heat more/longer? Therefore, causing the engine to work harder/run hotter? I hear a lot of people say I ran a thicker oil because of a tick or noise but just because you can’t hear the noise because you jumped up to a thicker oil doesn’t mean the issue that’s causing the tick is solved. Just thinking out loud.

Thanks for the content on this truck as it is comparable to my '17 F150 5.0. I look forward to your oil results. I've been running 5W30 ever since I drove it home last May at 51k and love it. Shortly after arriving in CT after driving from Minnesota, I changed fluids on the front and rear diff, 6R80 pan drop w filter, t-case drain and fill, drain and filled the radiator several times to replace the orange coolant with yellow 50/50 as orange is prone to fallout and HC restriction with block heater use. Luckily i didn't have that issue as the prev. owner never used the block heater. I do not "flush" and use the factory yellow 50/50 coolant mix to stay away from any tap water contaminant issues or distilled "lack of ion issues". Bled the brake system twice. Fluid filmed the frame inside and out prior to winter (I love the fluid film too ☺, all filters changed inc. cabin. Love the truck. She has been solid.

I have a 16 5.0. I flushed my cooling system and replaced with the yellow also. Dumping the radiator only drains half the coolant in the system, and unless you pulled the thermostat, the coolant in the block wouldn’t of cycled. You would of had to bring it to operating temp every time before the next “dump and fill” as you explained. Even doing that 3 times still leaves you with .75gallon old orange coolant (halved with each dump assuming it was fully mixed). I drained my radiator, pulled the thermostat, started the engine and kept pouring in distilled water with the rad plug still open. Once it was coming out crystal clear I stopped. It took me 20+ gallons to get it all out. Then I dumped the radiator which leaves 50% water in the system, topped off with 3 gallons of new concentrate for a perfect 50/50 ratio. Distilled water is a non issue when mixed with coolant concentrate.

@@MRTEE-sy7sbI hear you and believe me if I had any indication that my orange coolant had the symptoms of Fallout issues I would have most certainly taken the slightly more invasive approach and flushed it. On my last drain and fill before winter I'm happy to say that the coolant coming out looks just as pure as the brand new yellow going in and that is after many drive cycles mixing through regular driving. I don't think I've ever owned a vehicle with better heat

Seem like the engine is the quietist with Rotella T6 or the Valvoline. The engine/truck has 152K miles. Runs great. NO issues. I value your opinion on this Rich. You think this is helpful to use 5w-40 or does really make any difference? I had a 2018 F-150 with the 5.0 coyote and had rocker arm/cam follower bearing failure. Lost a couple rocker arms around 100K....and I maintained the 5.0 very meticulously. The F-250 6.2 has a different rocker arm set up but I hoping/thinking the 5w-40 being a little thicker will help out these overhead cam engines. I also carry some doubt that the 5w-40 is not getting through the VCT or VVT cam oil passages like a 5w-30 will. Would you think I am doing harm to my engine with the 5w-40 and should be using 5w-30 like OEM specs or is the 5w-40 better. Also thanks for the flood mode recommendation. I have been doing this with my Ford trucks every since I watched you do this a few years back. I live in TN so we have about 3-4 weeks of really cold weather. That seems like a lot of oil in that catch can. But then again I do have the 1st gen coyote, which for a stock truck engine I believe is the best version of the 5.0l. Mine at 5k oil changes, which is mostly towing, only gets about half a shot glass in it. And that's at 175k miles with roughly 100k towing, and I don't slow down for the passes which forced me to put a bigger trans cooler in. The 2nd and 3rd Gen engines just seem to have more oil consumption issues, I understand they are better for making power, but the 1st Gen engines just seem to work, and I like the fact they had the position cooling jets for those long pulls at higher rpms.

What difference, less oil consumption since using 5W-30? I am sharing again for your viewers that 15w-40 in an LS engine may be a bad idea, not knowing how many miles or winter usage my neighbor had when his LS failed soon after the 15w-40 (3/4 ton pickup, other issues?) I don't know.

Well, I tried this method… no room between the ball joint and the control arm to place the cups from the ball joint the cup was very long. I don’t have a short cup… so then I decided to put the jack on the control arm and lift it up as much as possible and that gave me some more room… but it stressed the swaybar link… Basically, you’ll need a car lift to do this job… The impact wrench there was no room for it either… good idea if you have a car lift… knuckle will move up and down so you’ll get a little bit of a room there… even if you were able to get the ball joint plant whatever they call that thing you won’t be able to leverage it off to turn it because you’ll be lying on the ground trying to do it so you can’t get any leverage again you will need a car lift to do this, but it’s a good shortcut you have a car lift.

I have been using the Motorcraft synthetic blend motor oil on my 2016 Ford Escape 2.0L EcoBoost, since new. I understand that Castrol Edge fully synthetic is Ford approved. Castrol website has even an oil selector, and you get their oil type recommendation for your specific vehicle. In your professional opinion, would switching to Castrol Edge fully synthetic be beneficial. Thank you so much, I cherish your advice.

5,000 At 2,500 I will change out the oil filter, and put in a new one. And add STP oil treatment to refill the oil level. At ,5000, 5,100 miles I will do a full oil change. New filter all new oil. The motor oil The filter is not the problem for our cars. The problem is the fuel that we buy, American fuel can change from place to place and week to week. The oil refineries have a standard to manufacture, gasoline, and diesel . They have range to produce oil.. So the fuel combustion in the engine, one week can be dirtier than the week before or the week after. This contaminator oil makes your oil black changes the color of your oil to Brown. So dipstick color matters in your motor oil. If it turns black, get it out, no matter the mileage. Best wishes

If there’s fuel in your catch can it’s likely the injectors are dirty. Try a fuel treatment like RedLine or Techron. Large droplets of fuel wash the bores and end up in the oil pan.

Their isn’t a huge difference between 20-30 weight oils totally fine to run. The manufacturer back be for the hype of mpg and epa would give you range of viscosity to use since on your engine depending on conditions. As why it would have a refer to manual label on the cap.

What does "Restore and Protect" mean? Is that just another marketing term for High Mileage oil?
@GusMahn
@GusMahn 7 ай бұрын
Some newer engines ( mostly 4 cylinders) are having troubles with the piston oil wiper rings getting plugged up and then the engine uses tons of oil, sometimes a quart every few hundred miles! Restore and Protect is supposed to clean the piston in three oil change intervals. We'll see if it actually does what it's advertised to do. To me the wording on the bottle isn't a guarantee.

Because of the EPA. Everyone went to high pressure direct injection like a diesel. Port injection would spray the intake valves and keep them clean.

Greetings 4Runner, A quick check on RockAuto in fact shows the Motorcraft FL816 as a high end full synthetic filter suitable for your RDX. Motorcraft has been an OUTSTANDING choice for many decades, but I’m not up on their quality in the last 3 years. You would be well served by watching some oil filter reviews on YT; a lot of filters are out there that have questionable construction ( imposters, etc) so it’s good to know what’s what nowadays. Purolator, Wix, Mobil 1, and Mann ( no relation lol) are solid choices as well.
