As the title states, this is a cold start of a 2012 f150 Ecoboost with a “big turbo” Garrett Powermax setup. MBRP 3” catback exhaust with no resonator. Stainless 3” catted hi-flow downpipes from CVFabrication (currently my favorite and go-to vendor for all things Ecoboost.)
All work and mods done by me personally.
I am still refining the tune from Torrie at Unleashed. We’re getting close, but I’m being very careful as I plan on this being a daily driver for many years and it’s already at 158k miles.

​@ProjectAjax how much hp and torque ? I ordered the same turbos for my 2015 ecoboost , passenger turbo gave out , they are currently getting installed at the moment, what's your 0-60? And are the new turbo noticeable on stock tune ? And sre they louder ?

@@juan_f150 it’ll run very poorly without other mods, and just terrible with no tune. I had a difficult surgery I’m still recovering from, so I’m still dialing out my tune, but I’m at about 5-6 0-60. But, I replaced and upgraded every single thing I could, even a HP oil pump. I spent a total of around $9k in parts and did the work myself at my shop.

I already got them installed and the truck does seem too pull less then stock turbos at the moment, its has a strong kick to it when you full throttle it but it feels like it just bogs down like the psi is limited, , i assume i would need to tune it to make it faster and perform better?

@@saulgoodman9193 not in the least. Due to issues with my tuning device, I haven’t been able to 100% dial in my tune, but even at 90% there it sounds kick ass. You don’t get a PSSSHHHH every single time you let off throttle, but sometimes it lets off mid gear just bc it’s got too much pressure built up. I wish they spooled up faster, but when they do, it’s a beast. Can’t expect fast spook up with how large the inducer/exducer are.

@jimmydiamond75 That's good to know , I have the formline turbo kit, which is just the formline exhaust manifolds, garrett stage 1 turbos, and turbo adapters waiting to be installed. I'm going to take it to the fullrace shop in December and have it installed there. They're also going to make an installation video out of it too which is pretty cool .

@jimmydiamond75 I have 5 star tuning. I don't think they're familiar with the setup, but once it's installed, I'll get a revision from them and will do some data logging and hopefully they can get it dialed in with a couple of revisions. I haven't gotten a quote from full race yet on the installation.

@@saulgoodman9193 I never liked the restrictions 5* implements. They left a whole lot of power on the table with me in 2017-18, even told me the stocks “aren’t capable” of producing over 18psi boost….thats odd, because I went somewhere else and had 22psi reliably. I also have heard several stories about them failing to honor the replacement warranty, claiming the tune had nothing to do with engine failure. Maybe they’re different now, idk.

Since it’s a 2012 it has a recirculating BOV on each turbo ; shoots the air right back into the intake pipes instead of VTA. The theory is that it can get the impeller spinning more quickly. So, each turbo has a BOV that routes excess back into turbos after about a foot of plastic tubing. My next one will be a 2018^, and throw a tune a meth kit on it for $1k, or a V8 with a $8-10k blower setup. Too much to go wrong to easily on the 2011-2012.

I did 100% of the mechanical work myself. Parts , fluids, etc were about $9,000-10,000USD. I work in a shop, but if I didn’t , it would’ve probably been $15-$20,000. That’s just a guess. I worked on it as the parts came in, and when I had time after work. I am almost 50 years old, so crawling around on the ground to do this would’ve been a nightmare. It was so much better having accessibility to a lift.
