What is the original thermostat rating. I bought a car quest one today and it never opened, Truck over heated and not sure why, It was rated at 195
@InternetDude3 жыл бұрын
192. I think you got a bad thermostat, or you have a different problem like a blocked radiator. The thermostat is a critical item so I prefer to stick with OEM parts for critical things like this.

Is the thermostat replacement related to code P0125? 🤔 Did you get that code or was it over heating?
@InternetDude3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I was not having any issues. I was replacing the coolant and radiator hoses and chose to replace the thermostat as preventative maintenance. See www.obd-codes.com/p0125

What size hose did you use to drain the coolant?

I didn’t measure, I would guess 3/8” to 1/2”. I just grabbed a random piece of tube I had laying around.

Look at the thermostat in the thumbnail, it goes that way. The pointy side goes up the springy cylinder shape side goes down

Any increase in MPG by chance? I’ve just recently seen bad thermostats, Aftermarket can cause horrible MPG and that’s what I’m experiencing will be getting motorcraft thermostat for my 4.6 I just recently put OEM plugs and Coils in mine still getting bad mileage definitely believe it’s the Duralast thermostat I put in
@InternetDude Жыл бұрын
My old thermostat wasn't bad so MPG didn't change. I did it more for maintenance reasons. Scan for diagnostic codes to see if there is some other reason that might be causing low MPG.
@alexharper9786 Жыл бұрын
@@InternetDude I actually did do a scan with a good scan tool and it was misfire but I fixed that and still bad gas mileage like 9-12 MPG I’ve went over everything 🙁

I've had three thermostats go bad in The last 5 years. Go bad as in did not reach the correct operating temperature i e they leaked / stuck open a little bit or something. 2 were motorcraft and one was Stant. One of the motorcraft was bad from new it never got above 165F when brand new. After a thousand to 1500 miles I actually got a code for engine not reaching 170 f to complete the emissions drive cycle. The others ended up never getting above about 180 to 185 in normal operation after a year or two instead of the 192 they did originally. And I checked the operation with the scanner after I first put them in. The bottom line is check your thermostats frequently by monitoring the ECT with a scanner. They are ALL junk today. Even the premium ones.

@@InternetDude Kool! Still a beautiful car. Recently saw the door handle module and how it worked. Amazing isn't it that something most drivers never think about, Tesla turns door handles into design fiasco. I'm in the first week with my long range and am still blown away by the car itself and my reaction to it. I can't seem to stay away from it. Got FSD for a 3 month trial and I'm using it fully. Definitely not worth 10 grand considering I have standard autopilot pretty much doing the same thing but nice to try. I'm trying to stay open-minded about it and think of its future usefulness to me and essentially just follow its development directly by buying. I can afford it but would like to know what you think about it, price and usefulness. Yourself along with a few other reviewers had a lot to do with my not buying for a full year. I'm kinda glad I waited cause I believe I got a better car for the wait. So, thx again! Driving position, although comfortable, is not perfect. My long legs have made contact with the screen corner. Would love to move that screen about an 1 inch further right.

The problem with waiting to buy a Tesla is there will always be a better one out in a year. For example by the end of 2021 we will have the new 4680 battery cells.
@Rick94823 жыл бұрын
@@InternetDude Yeah, the design will always move forward but my yearlong wait comment was about Tesla actually learning how to build the M3 better and they did improve quality.

Never introduced tapwater to the cooling system. Contaminants in the tapwater will contaminate the cooling system. Only introduced distilled water and recommended coolant to the coolant system to avoid contamination. If you introduced tapwater or anything other than distilled water and recommended coolant do you wanna introduce contaminants into the system that you will never be able to remove. So don’t do it lol
@InternetDude2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you care about your cooling system you should avoid tap water.
@j-deezy3212 жыл бұрын
InternetDude That includes while flushing the system. The system should be flushed with distilled water
@Meanbirds Жыл бұрын
Distilled water pulls electrons from the aluminum to ionize itself doing just as much if not more damage. You should actually be using softened water.
@j-deezy321 Жыл бұрын
@@Meanbirds Softened water is not purified water. Softened water will still have contaminants in it they can clog up small offices in the system. Distilled water will not Harm the aluminum once it is mixed and saturated with the coolant. Once saturated it loses his ability to pull anything as it is saturated. According to you my 30 year old Lexus engine must be garbage by now. However when I replaced The timing and send me including the water pump last year all the internal aluminum still look like new.
