I enjoyed that Günther actually was talking about literal shades of gray later in the video. And regarding Lauda and being outspoken, a thing that he had on his side is that he was probably the most famous and most liked motorsports person in the German speaking world*, besides being an absolute legend and respected in the world of F1. Every second Lauda was on camera with a little Merzedes symbol in the corner was good for the brand. It's weird because he's from Austria but in Germany (at least in my Family and circles) Lauda was up there with the likes Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller. *besides Schumacher, obviously

Drive to Survive may have brought in a lot of viewers. But the bile that a lot of them spout online is shocking. There seems to be a huge new cohort of viewers, devoid of any knowledge of F1 pre-2021 and who were attracted to the off track fake drama that show emphasised.
@donaldfarquar7 ай бұрын
Don't know, the bile that was directed at Vettel 2010-2014 was shocking, same with alonso in 2007 even from his team principal, to a lesser extent with Hamilton, especially in 2011. Michael was absolutely hated by the English for about 15 years but there was far less social media even in 2003. Funny thing is everyone idolises Senna, but if any of today's drivers done or said half of what he did the outrage would be off the charts 😂

Interesting. Makes you wonder whether Malcom Gladwell's thesis in Tipping Point applies: kids born early in the year tend to do a little better than those born later. So they get more support, adulation, opportunity, and promotion by their teachers and coaches (I am paraphrasing a brilliant man's writings, so please forgive any misstatements). This happens because kids are changing at such a fast pace - their rate of maturation is off the charts, so a few months of additional age can make a really big difference in their skills/performance. EJ, DC, and GS were all born in the first quarter of the year. Anyway, they are wonderful guys and I can't thank them enough for their contribution.

The likes of DC will always be one sided when it comes to formula one because he was never a world champion and he don't want to upset the powers above. Just take the shambles with Lewis and Max where everyone in the rules were fixed on that day but not many high profile punters said so.

In the future if we are going to make the armed forces worthwhile things are going to have to improve. In WW1 generals were hundreds of miles away from people being asked to sacrifice themselves for no good reason. In future people will have to be given a task and told to get on with it without interference. I have encountered a few senior armed forces people and they seem stupid. A wing commander who doesn't know how to use seat belts in the cockpit for example yet everyone follows their instructions. This is a fault of the basic soldiers as well as the generals. An F1 equivalent would be for a leader to give the task of servicing a car in 2 seconds without any input. The engineers would then have to be able to say to the leader 'keep out of it; you don't know anything about it'. RSM Slack, in my life, would not have taken well to me telling him that!

BREAKING NEWS: Steiner rejoins Haas and signs Frentzen for 2025
@Euroasian17 ай бұрын
Unpopular opinion but Gunther Steiner was simply out of his depth as team principal. The haas results bear witness to it. Bluntly, He doesn’t have an outstanding engineering talent and his management style is simply chaotic “do as I say” “I’m a straight talker” etc etc. Great for TV but not for getting technical change and buy-in. That’s ok if you’re Colin Chapman. He’s nowhere close He a one trick pony: a media gem
@3rdStoreyChemist7 ай бұрын
Unless we got to see the day-to-day running of an F1 team, especially a modern one, its really difficult to say especially as pretty much everyone will have never have run one. But yes, Haas' results simply were not good enough, but problems are rarely just one person, especially in this type of environment. If Gunther was the problem, then Gene is also a problem for keeping him in the role for so long...
@Tosh8257 ай бұрын
@@3rdStoreyChemistGunther knew that the limitations of Haas was lack of funding from Gene. Gunther was in some ways suffering by seeing other teams like Williams as James their team principal keeps saying has invested millions into their foundations of how they build F1 cars. Gene for whatever reason. Hasn't.
