As a relatively new fan to F1 my attraction to the sport is the behind the scenes dealings as much as the performance aspect and may I add I come to this sport as somewhat of a spy looking for ideas to enhance my abilities to improve the sport I’m invested in (NHRA Top Fuel) and as exciting and daunting as it is we have little to zero content of this depth and quality yet we do have the components and characters in place…..maybe someday. Until then I appreciate you content thoroughly and the lessons learned from years ago.

I really wish I'd been lucky enough to work for Mr Anderson. In my time in F1 it was extremely frustrating that a lot of people were pursuing bigger downforce numbers, with no thought at all for whether it was usable, or actually made the car faster. I've seen the same thing in road car engineering, too. Engineers chasing abstract performance numbers, with little to no holistic vision for the vehicle. It was defended by arguing that if everyone pursued the maximum in their area, the sum of the parts would be greater. That's just not what happens!

Gary is totally correct. The approach should not be "Wow look at all this technology, how can I use it to make things more complicated?"... The essence of a great engineer is to realise that numbers must be scrutinised and fully understood. I've seen some who will stand behind their numbers yet never see the obvious failings of their measurement processes or independently verifying their observations
