The source of the intermittent power in the 05-07 is the resistor network SMD next to the microcontroller. The pins you pointed out are just for the display and don't have anything to do with powering the unit. The reason why it appears to have fixed the issue is, in order to remove the PCB you have to flex the board. Flexing of the board will make bad joints touch again, but unfortunately it's only temporary. I have a video posted that show's how to permanently repair this generation of the super duty.

Thanks man never done any soldering so I didn’t know what to look for as far as damaged contacts but now I know. Had the whole damn thing apart and stared at it but didn’t look at it THAT close. I will be tearing it back apart this weekend 🙃

It's amazing that one little fault like that can cause so much havoc. But in the end, you win. Nice catch.

Came across another fix to this problem. If I remember correctly, the only white connecter on the cluster, cut number 1 wire and splice it into number 19 pin. It bypasses the onboard relay all together.
@incognytothegreat2 жыл бұрын
i'm trying this .... hopefully it works :) :) :) I've been soldering the shit out of the board for days now and am running out of options. :) :):)
@incognytothegreat2 жыл бұрын
pin 1 on blue connector is brake fluid level signal .... 19 is voltage supplied at all times (overload protected) ... pin 4 is accessory delay relay control ... HMMMMM what to solder together to skip the relay :) :) :)

Ok now comes the big question , if for a customer what in the world would you charge relative to the price of a re manufactured cluster with a 3 year warranty? Does this become more of just a prove we can type project, or a save the customer money project?
@DownTimerepair6 жыл бұрын
We wouldnt do that for a customer. They would get a new/ rebuilt. Thats brians personal and it was one of those “lets try it!” He was lookin at a new one regardless

Personally, it's a better solder joint than factory because yer NOT using lead free (if yer smart) so I warrant mine for LIFE. ($200)

For me personally I'm a cheap ass and I refuse to pay that much for solder work when I've got a microscope and fine point solder tip here myself. It might not be for everyone but I prefer to somewhat understand everything on my trucks it's a good skill to learn and have when you absolutely need it. My truck is my Job unfortunately having no cluster for a week or two really isn't an option for me unless I let my family starve for the fact I'm not hauling without a gauge cluster.

A messed up cluster can cause the ac not to work either? My radio shuts off and wipers will start working on their own,now ac is being weird and its hot as balls in tx right now

My 2006 has issues where the tach, speedo will freeze up and milage will disappear. I swapped in a known good cluster and same thing. I touch the blue conector slightly and it will work. Can a guy cut and splice in a new conector with pins?
@scottpearsontoolsmore1856 жыл бұрын
Great video thanks brother. I don't know if I would have been able to get the connector. I might have messed up the whole board. Glad you got it going great call. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
