F30 BMW Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps DIY Install

I install carbon fiber mirror covers on my 2018 BMW 340i. The install was quick and easy. The only required tool is a trim removal tool, which does come with the product. I also used a microfiber towel to hold the mirror when dangling.

Many comments are saying to pull the OEM cover off without removing the mirror at all. You can try this way instead if you are worried about damaging the mirror

You made that look extremely easy. I broke 2 mirrors. But I believe it was because they were old and the plastic got brittle

The actual mirror cracked when you were pulling on it? I've had to remove my mirrors before and the clips always popped out when I started from the bottom and worked my way up

I followed kies motorsports tutorial and I still cracked it. When I worked at the bmw dealership, the techs taught me to put tape over the mirror and it should prevent it from cracking but mine still broke the second time

on my f22 I just tilted the mirror down and used chopsticks to gently pop the clips 👍👍👍

On my F22, I just pried the mirror out, then did the other one, then learned how expensive auto-dimming, heated mirrors are when I realized I cracked one :( Not the way I anticipated this Saturday going... Oh, and the caps (at least for me) make a very loud and annoying whistling sound once you reach about 20mph. Just increase in pitch the faster you go. I think I can fix it with a little strip of electrical tape. We'll see. On the bright side, I do have a new (to me) F22 that I am thoroughly enjoying over my last 48 hours with it :)

You can do that for the left side. If you do this to right side, you’re gonna broke it. I broke mine But I was able to open it from the back with a simple net

Bro I’m legit scared. All the tutorials i see on youtube to remove the covers says to remove mirrors first then cover. While everyone in comments saying they aint need to remove mirrors or they saying they cracked the mirrors removing or putting it back. I dont want to break the mirrors but not single video on youtube shows removing cover without removing mirros first!!! Mad confused at this stage.

Try pulling the mirror cap off without removing the mirror. People are telling me they have been able to do the install without touching the mirror

Doing it with the mirror mounted is more difficult and inconvenient and you could still risk breaking the clips or the cover, it is always better to remove the mirror. Try to remove it gently

Didn’t take mirrors off, just used credit card to pop off old caps....but the clips can break. Try reviewing the new 2.3 maps! People are up in air about them.

Yeah I'm running the new map that gave people traction issues, but I haven't had any issues with traction. Maybe because I'm xDrive and have good tires

I just got done doing mines and I'm making a video for it because after watching your video. I noticed that there was a couple of different things when it comes to my BMW again my is a 2022 BMW M440i in XDrive. Even though it looks so similar but there's a few things when I opened her up like with your clips you had three circled when I open minds up it was only two clips holding it and then on the left side of it there's like little clips holding it I'm making a video of it right now I'll post it as soon as I'm done

Some people are saying they did it without removing the mirror at all. They just popped the back cover off. I never did that but you can try it

I’ve gone through 2 fake carbon fibers caps- I live in Florida and they get sun faded after one year if u r lucky! I’d def recommend real carbon fiber ☺️ wish I had known this prior bc I also had to replace 2 mirrors 😮 even having my mechanic do one for me 😮

Any additional wind noise at the windows when driving after install? I have read there is a noticeable difference.

I didn't notice much of a difference. Maybe there is more and I just don't realize it. But there definitely wasn't enough to bother me. I went for a drive earlier and noticed more road noise than wind noise. But luckily this mod is very easily reversible if you don't like it

As for me, I did feel that after installed, specially as long as go over 100km/h but depends on if u really care bout it anyway with Music and other road noise probably u can ignore it. But I’m wondering that does the M3 one is special design or shape so that won’t make noise? Cuz m3 come with when it was brand new lol maybe m3 engine and exhausted sounds already cover all it over 😂

Yeah everything is cool. I just needed a break. I've been more consistent on IG than KZbin. Even really short videos like this one take a lot of time and effort to create. But from now on I'd like to do at least two videos a month. Maybe add some casual vlog style videos too
