This is an 18 year old game and still holds it's own, a Game History Hall of Fame Game, Yu Suzuki's arcade driving masterpiece Ferrari F355 Challenge.

Plux AuAg Amazing enough for a 2000 game that is quite timeless! I play this game in the arcade and I will say it's like a waterdown Assetto Corsa... But enjoyable in the end, including if you have a wheel!

This game gives me a feeling like no other. I love racing games. F1, Gran Turismo 1-6+Sport. This game succeeds at the highest levels of making you feel like you are actually driving. The actual physics and handling is spot on. The AI is hard. This game gives you every reason to not play it. There is a learning curve and in order to win you need to drive perfect. One mistake, race is over. Its extremely unforgiving. So there are no recoveries and when you do manage to recover after nearly screwing up, its majestic. Drifting around turns feels accurate as hell. The arcade machine is something else. 3 screens. Force feedback, gas, brake and clutch. 6 speed manual transmission? Insane. Everytime I spot a cabinet in the wild, I cannot control myself, I jump in it and fumble around for change and demand money or tokens if I dont have it. Everyone knows I go apeshit when I see that machine. Ill never own an actual F355, even though I want a real one very badly,it's terribly unreliable and maintenance is astronomical, yet flawless when working right. I think I would drop $5000 on a working machine no problem. Other alternative is to make my own driving cabinet with a race seat, pedals, screen and a dreamcast running this game. You dont get the other 2 screens though. This is hands down, to this day, THE very best racing game ever made. It's limitations and bare bones modes which usually equal lack of replayability isnt the case here with how flawlessly executed the driving is. Once you get it right, this game kicks total fucking ass. I just got a VGA cable for my DC today. Holy shit this game looks incredible. It's night and day. This game is now better tha ever. It's hard to describe how great this game really is. Those who struggle with it only do because they dont understand the game is literally a pure racing simulation. The analog on DC controller + this game is still stupidly impressive. The triggers feel like real pedals. They respond perfectly.

I've played the 3 screen arcade version before. The 3 screen arcade version has a clutch and 6 speed shifter.

This game blew me away back in 2000. The graphics were incredible and still are really impressive. You have to put effort in.. and learn the game, but when you get good.. it's really satisfying... It's definitely an underappreciated game.

I loved this game at the arcade with the 3 big screens and the gated shifter! That intro is epic too.

I used to work in an arcade and we had this game. I eventually got into a position where I had access to the keys for the coin door, and would spend hours on this on freeplay! Loved the rockin' soundtrack. Great game.

Yea, that was Disney's last deluxe Ferrari on property, my buddy and I used to go just to play it a few times a month. They actually parted out 2 other units they had pulled to get that Pizza Planet one back to 100% for awhile. Only the clutch didn't work but otherwise it was fun while it lasted, I love the gearbox it was great to have the original shifter on there. It may have gone to the silent auction some time in the last year where most pulled games go but I missed it.

This game represents (and i think will always be) the pinnacle of racing games on arcades! An incredible experience when played alone in that awensome 3 screens cabinet and countless games with friends back in the day... F355 was and still is one of the best racing game ever made. And ever understimated :)

The arcade version of this was pretty impressive. It had a tri-screen wraparound and the cockpit was pretty much just like a real F355. One of my favorite games back in the day!

It's always great to see this game. I snagged it on release day back when it came out, and man, the graphics were absolutely stunning then. You are very right though in that it probably won't be for those that are impatient with their racing games. This one requires extreme patience (and practice), very much like Gran Turismo 3.

Love the music... reminds me of all the cheesy mid 90s action b-movies I used to watch lol. Always wanted to play this but never really had a chance to pick it up.. I'm won over now.. I'm off to search Amazon for a copy.

I used to love this game and it's ahead of it's time physics. The triggers were great for coming out of the corners hard and gradually accelerating harder. Not just mashing buttons on & off for a throttle.

Simply the best driver AI on any motor racing game EVER!. Because the cars were all Ferrari - the emphasis was on pure driving skill. You really had to work on an overtake, use your brain. No cheap blasting down the straight like all the other crap sims. The AI actually blocked you and could defend the corner. You had to pick the spot for the best tow, plan it two or three laps before, and then go for it! You better not make a mistake, as the guy behind you was waiting to take you too.

Plays as good as an outdated sims, looks as good as a good ol' SEGA Arcade title. Only SEGA could pull that off, seriously.

omg you actually put up a vid on f355, that is so cool :D i loved playing that game with a buddy years ago, such a great racing game =) it is weird that in your menu the "cable vs play" is enabled, in my pal version i have to press X and Y and then it will pop up :D just like some kinda cheat inside the menu i guess^^ it was hard to track down two copys of the game, two dreamcasts and the linkcable without using e-bay back in the day, but it was so worth it =)

You miss the whole ENTIRE point of Racing simulations. F355 challenge is a "realistic" racing sim that put you in a MR car which is, the F355 with a handful of tracks. You really don't need a 3rd person view since it will obscure a part of your vision and for the best results of FOV it's recommend to play in 1st person to see everything that it is front. The fun part is up to you, If you don't like cars running around on a track then that's fine, look for something like Outrun 2 or Need for speed for the "Arcade" racers. Guessing simulations are not your type.
