How to fix scratches on VR Headset lens - Oculus Quest + PolyWatch

Lets keep this simple...
The previous owner of my Oculus quest wore glasses... this led to scratches galore on the lenses of the HMD.
Thankfully if you have 5 minutes to spare and a tube of Polywatch plastic polish you can make it a lot lot better!

I know it's probably not advisable, but I did the entirety of both lenses, instead of just the scratched spots. Since this stuff is an abrasive, I wanted it to evenly do whatever it was going to do to the entire lens, instead of just wearing down one spot on the scratch. It cleared up the lenses all over, even in spots I didn't know needed fixing, until I saw how much clearer everything was afterwards. Worked like a charm. No damage done. My Quest 2 lenses seem as clear as when I bought them, now!

Thanks for the video! I was able to use Polywatch to polish my Quest 2 lenses after a previous owner scratched it with their glasses, and it worked amazing! Some pro tips: Try to use a microfiber towel if you can find one, and only use a small corner of the towel to avoid soaking up too much of the solution during application. Make quick little circles with the rag and a single finger for 3 minutes around the most affected area (I used a timer on my phone to make sure, your arm should get tired around minute 2!) using medium pressure, slowly working outwards to polish the whole lens, then take a clean portion of the microfiber towel and gently wipe off any remnant Polywatch, and presto, no more lens scratches!

Dude this is amazing!!! I just bought some off Amazon and it worked wonders!!!!!!!! I had a horribly scratched lenses and it made me want to sell my headset because of it. This literally just saved my Odyssey!!! Good thing is that now I'm not using my glasses anymore. bought a prescription lens adapter.

just the video I needed. Glasses wearer here, and yeah I have these exact scratch patterns. Gonna buy me this stuff and simply not wear my glasses (thank god for not making me completely blind without my glasses.). And once i can, I'll get some nice lense prescription things. gonna cost me 70€ tho. But better spend the bit of money now and be able to enjoy my rift S even longer.

i did one pass on both lenses on my HP WMR (the refurbished ones tend to have the scratches from glasses, i got two real cheap and both had that issue), both had significant weird blurriness all over and i was worried i messed it up. did a second pass on both and man, it's like night and day difference. after your first pass plug the headset in and look through it, and then if you need to do a second pass on any bits that need cleaning up. center lenses are crystal clear now, i feel like the edges might be SLIGHTLY blurrier than they were before but the overall quality is significantly improved (i'll take slightly blurry edges as opposed to having to move my head around to avoid the scratches IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LENS)

Got a second hand Reverb G2 with some super thin but long two scratches running from corner to corner on left lens. I don't even think I notice them when using the set. I got Polywatch though, in case it starts bothering me I have a solution.

So with my Oculus Quest 2, it removed Scratch from it but when I flash it with a lamp, you can still see a lot of micro-scratches, so in reality it works well but it's not perfect either. I still recommend

NOVA scrath remover is a better option. Then you can restore headligts and deeper scratches on pther plastics. Obviously youll only need the 2000 polish and sealer for this job but again you can use NOVA for alot more projects.

Good video, I can absolutely guarantee you though, that one application will remove the anti glare coating entirely, these coatings will remove over time with lens cloths but with an abrasive solution they will instantly be removed, the coatings are about 0.3 microns thick, one polish and they are gone, but if you have a scratched lens, you don't have the luxury of retaining the coating, so it's a good option for sure, just something to be aware of 🙂

It didn't work for me on my VALVE INDEX, seems to be permanent scratches. all it did was polish the worst spot and make the "line scratches" worse. I use a microfiber and glasses clean cloth microfiber and used it for 10 min straight on the same spot. sadly looks like im gonna have to pay 150$ for a new eye piece

I got an Oculus Quest 2 brand new at Best Buy (at least, I'm pretty sure it was brand new), and the right lens has a huge scratch running across it right out of the box! Gonna go back to Best Buy and have a chat with customer service and see if they can either offer something to get rid of the scratch or exchange the defective headset for a new one.

our index is 2 weeks old and already has 2 scratches.. from my glasses. iam serverly shortsighted with -7 and a rather high astigmatism and cant wear contacts, my eyes just get bloodshot afert 20minutes, so i had to use my glasses otherwise the headset is unuseable for me. i was about to order prescription insert, untill i saw and read, that almost all of the manusfactorers for the index, use old mounting system that arent made to be put on and taken off over and over. since the headset is a shared device and my wife and i change beatsaber rounds, this would mean the lenses would get a "put on 10 times a day, taken off 10 times a day" treatment, which will kill the mounting system very fast so i would have to reorder a 100+ buck arcticle over and over.. and no this. iam pretty sure, the collision occur, then i move my head fast because i hear something behind me and turn my head fast.. it sucks that no matter what, as a heavy shortsighted person, you always get the short end of the stick. on the other hand: why does it have to be such sensetive material?

Pro Tip: DO NOT USE THE POLYWATCH ON YOUR EYEGLASSES! The oculus lenses and my eyeglasses scratched each other, and polishing the eyeglasses ruined them completely.

That’s because the vr lenses are a type of plastic and your glasses are, well, glass.

@@fernatagames Glasses are less and less commonly made of glass though. I haven't EVER worn a pair of glass glasses, and I've been wearing glasses for 30 years! Polycarbonate is what most of them are made from. The catch is that they are normally glazed in some kind of sensitive coating.

I'm going to have to try this. I have glasses, and even with the adapter, I still got these smudges 😭 this whole time I thought it was my glasses giving the annoying smudges I was seeing, but they're on the Oculus lenses themselves... I just got prescription lenses so I don't have to wear any glasses. I'll have to do this to get rid of the annoying smudges.

Yes, the psvr lenses are sort of a mix between glass and plastic (kind of hard to explain) so it may take many more times to completely remove the issue, but I would recommend not doing it, as at that point you might be doing more damage than repair

Do not use isopropyl wipes on your lenses, it may dissolve the material. Try using fog from your mouth, combined with a microfiber cloth.

a word of advice, DO NOT TRY THIS ON YOUR QUEST 3!!!!! The pancake lenses have a different kind of anti glare coating than older headsets from meta/oculus older headsets. It will ruin your quest 3 I learned from firsthand experience :(

@@moritzmodlin9177 I used it on the corner of a glasses cloth, and then rubbed in circles for around 5 mins, the polywatch will then disappear and just wipe it with another piece of the cloth that has not been used on lens. Good luck man!

@@m.ghazanfar1317 I tried it and it initially seemed to help but some blurriness stayed. I tried it multiple times and that made it worse. It won't hurt to try the Polywatch, but proceed with caution. At this point, I've got the Quest 2 sitting in its case and haven't used it in 6+ months. Even ignoring the blurriness, there just wasn't any compelling content to compel me to put on the bulky device.

Just get lens covers from vrlens lab, i know the liquid stuff is supposedly 9-10 on the hardness scale but the covers are replaceable.

VERY VERY SATISFIED about this product. No problem to recover my lens after beeing scratched by my eyeglasses. I could also clean my eyeglasses themselves scratched. Use a cotton for polishing cars and rub with quick circular movements for 3 or 4 minutes. dry with an optical cloth. If the result is not perfect make another clean ... Enjoy !

WAIT!: THIS DOESN'T WORK. I was leary so I practiced with my PSRV1. All this crap did was make swirl marks on my lenses. Thank God I didnt do this to my PSVR2. The scuffs are still there along with fresh swirl marks.

You really have to rub for about 3 minutes per lens...and also dont forget to clean the lens afterwards with a little wet sweaper Edit: cleaning the lens before you use the polywatch is also recommend.
