You mentioned that it only has tail fuzing and no nose fuzing yet. That bomb doesn’t have dual or nose fuzing. To hold the guidance control unit on the nose there is a lot of bracing along with the solid nose plug that goes in the nose well. They only have an electronic tail fuze. Sincerely, a retired Marine Corps Ordnanceman.

Negative. The MK-84 or BLU-117 filling is 945 lbs. the bomb, filling plus casing is 2000lbs.
@chocken48673 жыл бұрын
@@devdog99 No, he's correct, the actual Warhead is about 945 pounds. A 2000 pound warhead?...imagine the size of the casing.
@felixbarkhahn80093 жыл бұрын
@@chocken4867 Maybe there is a misunderstanding. Warhead sometimes refers to "explosive compound plus fuze" and sometimes to the whole basic system (Mk. 84, BLU-109 etc) used with the guidance kit. For the Mk. 84 (and thus the GBU-24) the filling alone is 945lbs. The Mk 84 itself is in this case refered to as the warhead, weighing about 2000lbs and the whole GBU-24, including the guidance kit, weighs a bit over 2300lbs or so.

I just started flying the Hornet this week after a month or so on the Mustang, and about 6 months of the Mustang in IL2. I was overly intimidated by any of the jets, however after doing the tutorials over and over and over im less intimidated and more excited to fly more. Just take it one sliver at a time, take off and landing, then guns etc just like the tutorial. It's so rewarding shooting down the first drone or air target. Good luck.

Very minor point but you only have to punch in 1688 laser code once, the other 3 stations you can just press Step, Enter, Step, Enter, Step, Enter. UNless of course you want different laser codes on different pylons....

How can you sink carriers? Ive tried the harpoon but the ships shoot missiles. I was able to kill a FF ship with some Jsow’s though.
@lenn554 жыл бұрын
Very helpful video. Just wondering if you're using a weapon that you want to penetrate as far down into the target as possible wouldn't it be better if the weapon came down as close to vertical into the bunker rather than at an angle like they did?
@ninjackrobot61354 жыл бұрын
lenn55 (Correct me if I’m wrong) To my understanding, making a missile go straight up and down is pretty hard. (If not nearly impossible, with this kind of missile) Since your plane is flying in a a horizontal line, the missile will be launched and then slowly change its trajectory until it hits the target. Unless your plane is pointing straight down at the ground, the missile will always launch at an angle. If it were to maneuver in a straight up and down position, not only would it bleed a lot of speed... but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t even have time. Most missiles will always hit their targets at an angle, considering a jet like the F-18 is firing from a distance. Not only that, but keep in mind that the laser guiding the missile is also hitting the target at an angle. It would only make sense that the missile would follow the laser’s guidance. The F-18’s laser does not go straight up and down, or anywhere near a perfect 90 degree angle.
@Firestorm29004 жыл бұрын
@@ninjackrobot6135 To add to this, trying to get that perfect angle means you're likely really close over your target, and with a higher chance of putting yourself in danger of weapons like MANPADS. To add to that, the vertical assumes the target you're hitting has a flat roof. It it's a bunker like this with the rounded roof, then as long as you're parallel to the roof you should be decent flying as is to the target.
@ninjackrobot61354 жыл бұрын
@@Firestorm2900 Well said. Thanks for covering the things I forgot to add. You’re absolutely right. Getting close to the target you’re originally trying to bomb, can put you in danger of SAMS and other things that could possibly be defending the bunker. Not only would the threat of missiles put you in danger, but the maneuvers you would have to perform in order to launch the missile straight up and down could also be risky. Glide bombs, laser guided bombs, and GPS guided bombs were all designed so the the aircraft firing them could launch from a safe distance between the target.
