At 0:51 good chance of hand injury on assailant's face, palm strike and edge of hand strikes are preferable, the drop strikes are very effective.

The way we use the Chopping Palm is different from karate and many other systems. We usually strike with the heel of the palm and the fingers are rounded. The fingers are applied to the face like an eagle’s talons. We call the hand ying zhao (eagle’s claw). @@taichiacademy I am referring to your closed fist strike at 0:51, Only train palm strikes the way you describe and edge of hand strikes.

@@rodvan-zeller6360 The fist is also used as chopping force. It can be applied against an attacker’s striking arm or top of the head. It can also change into a palm strike or punch.

R u familiar with systema? I wound like to know how u can use ur hand like a whip and palm strike or hammer fist.

We say the body is the bow and the arm is the arrow. This means that our main power is generated by the body and released through the arm. For most people, the arm and shoulder are the dominant force. If one doesn’t know how to train a certain way, one won’t change one’s body deeply enough and one’s force won’t be co-ordinated. In our system, we don’t put emphasis on the muscles. We focus more on sinews and bones. The 1st stage of our training involves relaxing and opening the body. Then, we learn to co-ordinate various parts of the body to produce power. Once the co-ordination, power and naturalness are there, we can change the force from chop to punch or whatever we need. Yes, sound body mechanics is essential in all health and martial training. We have a strong emphasis on relaxation (that is, using just the right amount of strength to accomplish a task, no more, no less) in every aspect of our training. This produces a very different result.
