** UPDATE: Since this video was posted, Section 336 was replaced with Section 349. This doesn't change the information contained in Part 48. For more information on Sectino 349, check out this full recent video I made: • Everything you need to... **
Greg digs in the Federal Aviation Regulation Part 48 to highlight the important parts of drone registration including the following:
- Difference between model aircraft and non-model aircraft.
- Basic registration requirements
- Who is eligible? (including foreign nationals)
- What if your information changes? (including destroying or selling a drone)
- How long is the registration good for?
- How to display the registration number? (note that there was a recent change in regulation which now requires displaying the registration number on the OUTSIDE of the drone).

Great briefing, Professor. I have huge issues with using providers for RemoteID. It adds another layer of complexity to what should be a system kept as simple as possible. Besides, if Jumbo Jets can use a beacon. why not an sUAS? a bad guy is never going to use a service provider any more than he would turn on his beacon.

Needs to be updated. You can no longer only display your registration number in the battery compartment. It has to be displayed where it can be seen by looking at the outside of the drone. You can still put it in the battery compartment but it also has to be displayed on the outside as well.

Thanks for the note. That's the downside with KZbin videos is that you can't upload new videos to replace the old one. I'll make a note in the comments section.

D Hansel 3 hours ago Thanks Rick for these great video tips. What I have hearing about all the new drone rules and counter-rules is we are going to have so much confusion about things it will be like the CB radio craze of the past. Respectable people will fly their drones and obey the laws while a few will do what they want to with other drones no matter what the laws say. There won't be enough people to enforce the rules and regulations the out of work lawyers who are sitting in the coffee shops keep dumping rules and regulations on the form of quarterly rule changes. The police will get tired of hearing Ms busy body calling them saying UFO drones are flying in the neighborhood. The FAA will continually get swamped by people calling them and say they are going to fly their drones. There are more airplane crashes caused by pilot errors. The 400' rule is high enough. Fly in good weather and "Don't do anything Stupid". Be courteous to people who see you flying them. Tell the people it's a hobby and you want to get aerial pictures from above the trees. If people ask about looking in back yards just say I have more junk in my back yard than you do. We are entering hurricane season and the pictures you take and donate will help asses the damages. The Splendora, Texas Police have purchased two drones. One is a DJI Mavic Enterprise and the other is the DJI Matrice with night vision. The chief told the pilot to fly every day and get really familiar with it. They have used their drones to help fire fighters fight grass fires. It's a lot cheaper than a helicopter.

When registering they validate your email. My question is do they ever send you anything in your physical postal mail? I doubt it, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.

I really like your refference to the actual FAA rules when explaining what is important to know. My question: Just purchased my first drone. I do not have the Part 107 ticket yet, but I probably will get it next year. What do i do if register my drone under Section 336 then get my Part 107 ticket ... or can I register the drone under the Part 107 without the Part 107 ticket? Please discuss the pros & cons of both approaches. Thanks, Tony

Great question, Tony. Register under 336 for now and once you get your 107 certificate, go ahead and register under 107. The system will allow you to register under 107 now but it won’t be valid. I hope this helps.

These rules represent an overreaction to the threat of misuse of drones. You must be five miles from an airport to fly, for one thing, sounds like extreme caution. (I do not have a drone yet).

Section 349 did not make any changes to Part 48, which is what this video is about. The few mentions of 336 in this video haven't changed in 349. If you're interested, I made a full video on Section 349 as well, and I added it in the description for future viewers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ol65i62loZJ8abc

How do I research Drone Flying Requirements for Foreign Countries. For example if I want to document my family Vacations in Mexico and or the the Caribbean
@PilotInstitute
@PilotInstitute 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know of a central place that has everything for all foreign countries. Your best bet is to find the website for the local aviation authority. I know Mexico has very stringent regulation, I wanna say only Mexican citizens can actually fly, but be sure to look it up. I'm sure the Caribbean is more lax. Best of luck.

When I registered my drone, I didn't know what I was doing so I registered it under Part 107. I do not have the Part 107 remote pilot's license so do I need one even though I'm flying for recreational use? Can I be registered under Part 107 without a license? Finally, can I be registered under both Part 107 and Section 336 (hobby use)? Do I need two labels on my drone? These questions would really help my confusion. I'm looking forward to your course. Thanks.
@PilotInstitute
@PilotInstitute 4 жыл бұрын
Owen, you can register the drone under Part 107 even if you don't have a license BUT you need a Part 107 certificate in order to fly it legally. You can register both under Part 107 and as a hobbyist so I would recommend that you just do a new registration as a hobbyist and put that label on your drone instead of the Part 107 registration number. You can keep the other one until it expires and/or get your certificate if you plan to fly commercially.
@owenhobbs9610

@@PilotInstitute Thanks! I get a little confused here between a certificate and a license. Is the certificate what you get in your email when you register your drone on faadronezone.faa.gov? And is the license what you get after you take the Part 107 test? So, legally I could fly under Part 107 without a license (and I had my registration certificate on me) if I was flying for recreational use but it wouldn't make much sense (because I could be flying as a hobbyist). I've heard that you can decide before you take off if you want to fly under Part 107 or as recreational rules. So would those people be just registered as Part 107 or would they be registered as both and have two labels on their drone? I'm going to want to get my Part 107 license but I also want to use the same drone for recreational flying. What would I be registered as? (Just Part 107 and decide before I take off what I fly as, Register as both and swap labels, or have two labels on my drone) I really appreciate your help.

@@souviksamanta8938 You will have to visit dronebase.faa.gov in order to register it before you fly. All the instructions are there and pretty simple. THere is nothing different to do as a non-US resident, just be sure to go on the Section 336 registration not the Part 107. You can register there already before flying the drone since the registration number for Section 336 is valid for all your drones.

@@PilotInstitute What that tells me is, the most effective way to really make drone footage videos is to have a supplemental channel that is unmonitized, whereas the monitized video can link to the supplemental unmonitized video, but not link back. Yes, I am sure they would have an issue with that being government bureaucrats, but if I get a good KZbin career, I'd be willing to take that battle to court.

@@saurelius5217 Why not take the exam, become a commercial pilot, and fly legally? It sounds like it would be a lot easier, plus you would learn a thing or two about flying and doing it safely. It's a cheap investment considering what's at stake.
