The FAA published the final ruling on Unmanned Aircraft Systems Remote ID on 12/28/2020. This video breaks down the 470 pages into 20 minutes of highs and lows and discusses the very worst thing about it. Also, there is one thing that makes me wonder if it really is final.

Correction #1: After further review, it is unclear if the control station location is tracked in real-time for both the Standard Remote ID Broadcast AND the Broadcast Module scenario's. It seems that the Standard Broadcast would actually track the control station in real time. More to come on this.
Correction #2: The Broadcast Module WILL NOT prevent you from launching, but it is the responsibility of the pilot to ensure that it is functional before launch.

In reality, our only hope is an act of congress or a class-action lawsuit. And I think we have a bit of a case against them if someone dies because of remote ID; we might be able to sue the FAA for 2nd degree murder: "Why do guns, devices meant to kill, have less restrictions and a constitutional amendment going for them while drones have to be regulated to the extent that recreational and commercial operators, who rarely, if ever, intend to terrorize or kill individuals? Why do firearms have similar restrictions to buying furniture while drones have similar restrictions to operating nuclear power plants?" You're free to use this clause (public domain) for whatever the hell you want

@CarbonGlassMan

@@jpsalis I know but I don't believe this has anything to do with property damage or safety. It's about control and eventually having the ability to sell the airspace to the big companies that want it to make money off of. They can't afford for a delivery drone to get hit by a 200 gram rc aircraft and drop out of the sky. They'll sell it to the masses as a safety concern but I don't recall any stories of innocent bystanders being hospitalized by drones. Even if it was about safety, eventually 3 inch quads will commonly be able to exceed 100mph. Some already can.

If you are in a remote area (most flyers), whats stopping them from subduing you and landing your own drone back to your location and stealing it. Why the FAA would allow controller tracking to the GENERAL PUBLIC is beyond me, the majority of hobbyists and professionals didn't want that feature. Pack that heat ma man

One reason would be for being so narrow minded & dismissive to the value of a FRIA (6:40). Having the FRIA option & the improvements that were made regarding FRIAs are very good things. If it had not been for RC Modelling, which happened at recognized & established flying sites, "Drones" would not have been invented. They are an offshoot from RC Helicopters. FRIAs are GREAT for experimentation, innovation or for learning how to fly. They will be crucial in building "Remote Control Flying Communities" They will be instrumental for Youth Educational Programs & for the future of Aviation. Not to mention the "Drone Racing" Community would prefer the options of having less weight on their performance aircraft.

Those modules for legacy are gonna be a major hassle, if they will even work at all. The FAA states the modules MUST prevent the drone from taking off if it's not transmitting it's ID information, which I don't even see how that would be possible with legacy drones. I consider myself a safe and responsible drone pilot and follow all the rules, but I WILL NOT be using Remote ID on my drones unless the pilot location broadcasting is removed or hidden from the general public. It's absolutely insane the FAA thinks it's ok for the general public to have that information and be able to confront/assult drone pilots! If the FAA really wants people to follow the rules and get the license and everything else, the FAA needs to actually start DEFENDING drone pilots, not just making rules and handing out fines. Start punishing people that harass and interfere with drones or drone pilots, confront cities and counties that think they own the airspace and use stupid laws preventing drones where they should be legal according to FAA airspace rules.

Ok, so here is my question: How is your drone going to know that it is transmitting the data required to allow it to power up? A hard wired feedback loop? An transmitter receiver system? Maybe I need to protect this $50 part by surrounding it in a mesh wire cage in case it crashes.

To be frank, the weight cutoff for remote ID and registration should have been closer to 500 grams (about 1 pound). Not 250 grams. And on the FAA killing the low cost toy drone market, there is a reason DJI actually supported these restrictions. They have the resources to comply and want to own the entire drone market.

Why do firearms have similar restrictions to buying furniture while drones have similar restrictions to operating nuclear power plants?" It's simply an absurd set of rules for a trivial issue in the United States. No people have ever died to civilian use of drones, and it's already illegal for civilians to weaponize drones. Many countries already recognize this; even China's communist party has not implemented remote ID and doesn't appear to plan to.

Randomized aircraft hex codes are going to be a thing soon. You’ll have to pay or it more than likely, which I don’t agree with, but the FAA has been working on anonymity with ADS-B for a few years now. At this time you can go to a site like adsbexchange.com and track any aircraft in the world as long as it has a transponder and is being pinged by a ground station. However, soon, it may be difficult, if not impossible to know whose aircraft it is whether it be a Gulfstream 750 or a Phantom 4 pro, etc.

@dbottaz
@dbottaz 3 жыл бұрын
The hobby will be sacrificing very little, but the commercial expansion of UAS is happening and the FAA has been given a mandate to integrate everything flying in the public airspace safely. That is why today we all can fly safely in commercial aircraft. Imagine if the barnstormers of yesterday where allowed to run amuck, would you feel safe flying commercially.
@grimfpv292

@@dbottaz There's been practically no restrictions on model aviation until recently. And there's still no incidents where model aircraft/drones have taken down manned aircraft.
@dbottaz
@dbottaz 3 жыл бұрын
@@grimfpv292 :Yes, and we need to keep it that way. But this is not just about manned aircraft. Follow me on this for a few moments. The size of the UAS air-fleet is still small compared to how big it will become in the not to distant future, it is growing at a very fast pace. The 2012 Aviation Moderation Act had protection for model aircraft in Part 336. For modelers that was like the second amendment protecting recreational flying. In 2018 Moderation Act that provision was removed and it set the model aviation industry into real panic. the fact is, the AMA has done a real good job protecting modelers considering the mandate the FAA has been given by congressional directive to safely integrate all aircraft into the national airspace. All the new rules and regulations is not intended to remove anyone's personal rights, it is meant to divvy up the airspace in a way that we can all continue to use it a safe manner. Serious modelers are not the problem, the sUAS business has been unregulated without many real problems but we now have a growing amount people who have little or no knowledge of airspace safety who are allowed to possibly interfere with safe or legitimate use of the airspace as the skies become really crowed. Unfortunately the average modeler or quad-copter operator is unaware of how quickly sUAS aircraft is being put into commercial use. IE, Here is just one of a hundred of uses being tested right now. A small UAV departs from the roof of a dispatched ambulance to reach a heart attack victim before the ambulance arrives, the UAV has a defibrillator onboard and a two way radio communicating with the ambulance. The EMT and or the doctor at the hospital is speaking to a person on the ground to request the checking of vitals and possibly administering the defibrillator that could just possibly save that persons life. Now while the UAV is in route it comes across a small hobby drone in the area of the emergency patient. If the hobby drone has a transponder onboard one of two things or both can happen. First the hobby drone can be sent into return to home mode and or the emergency drone can take an evasive move to safely arrive at the emergency location. Now picture if that person was a family member or friend. We have become accustomed and gladly pull off to the side of the road when we hear a siren, this no different. As I said this is one of a thousand of new uses being tested right now. Unfortunately, we have many drone operators who feel big brother is out to get them, when it is really not knowing what they don't know which limits an informed perspective.

Not everybody replaces their aircraft every 3 years. I have been building model aircraft for over 50 years and multirotors since before DJI sold a Ready To Fly Drone. There are 32 fixed wing aircraft and 12 rotorcraft in my workshop and all have flown within the last 2 years. I just got a Mavic Air but every one of my other drones was hand built by me. Several of those fixed wings are over 40 years old and have flown in Japan, Oman, Egypt, and Diego Garcia. This morning I flew an 8 year old F-450 quadcopter frame with DJI Naza Controller with Gopro. After landing I flew a 40" wingspan acrobatic model. Model aircraft flyers have coexisted with full scale aviation since before the Wright brothers. What is happening now is silly, asinine, and a bureaucratic waste. I believe that most people will IGNORE the FAA UAV rules just as they INGORED the FCC and their CB Radio rules.
