So the change goes into effect 01 December 2024...If one has a CFI plastic card that documents an expiration of February 2025, is this new 3-calendar month grace period (post- expiration) applicable? Or, does one have to wait for the new plastic (the final plastic), which does NOT document an expiration before one can benefit from the 3-month grace period post-expiration?

How many training events are required within the three-calendar month "experience" window to keep your certificate valid? Do you need to complete a FIRC every 90 days or every 24 months?

Thank you for your questions. Once a flight instructor has established their recent experience, it is valid for 24 calendar months. If you wish to keep the same recent experience end date month (which functions in the same way our expiration dates do now) the CFI may re-establish their recent experience within their end date month or within the three preceding calendar months. If a CFI's recent experience lapses, they have three calendar months after their end date to re-establish their recent experience by completing a FIRC. We're here to help if you have additional questions. Also feel free to reach out to us at nafi@nafinet.org. Thank you!
