Thank you, this is very informative. I’m Chief Pilot of a Corporate Flight Department who has held a CFI/MEI since 1996. While I am not doing traditional flight instruction I train every day. I am constantly teaching my employees and mentoring young pilots. The only traditional role I use my CFI for is an occasional instrument competency check or flight review. Your video has really un muddy the waters .

Seems to me the recency requirements are what is really important. Just like having a formal flight review every 2 years, the 90 day requirements for carrying passengers, and approaches/holding patterns are for Private and Inst rated pilots.

Interesting. Doesn't affect me yet but does affect a lot of people

The FAA still has to issue us new certificates because there is an expiration date on the current ones.
@JetairplaneАй бұрын
@@casey3831 yes I did not realize the cost of issuing new certificates was that high!
@tonytheflyerАй бұрын
Yeah, I just did mine last month so I doubt I'll be getting the expirationless certificate until next renewal 😕
@TheBrennan90Ай бұрын
I agree @tonytheflyer they will just roll them out like they normally would until they are all changed over. They don't need to change anything they are currently doing and it will phase out in 2 years

The WINGS method of renewal is not new but is now codified in the regulation

So for someone in my situation…which is a 121 line pilot that did the American Flyers firc every 24 months, made an appointment with my local fsdo to do the paperwork just to keep my hard earned cfi…nothing really changes except the need to visit the fsdo. Will the syllabus at American Flyers remain the same for their firc? What else can i expect?
@PilotInstituteAirplanesАй бұрын
In your case, it doesn’t really change. You can still use the FIRC and FSDO option to renew. Only difference is that you won’t get a new card after this next renewal. And I doubt the FIRC will change at American flyer since the content is still the same. I’m sure they will add info about this change to the course though.

What i think about the changes? Flying is not Child's play. Everything has to be perfect. Flight Instructors should keep renewing every 24 Months. This is obviously becoming a problem when the Flight Instructors have been teaching for longer and not immediately after the 24 Months have passed. Should come back to this and look at statistics for accidents caused under Flight Instructors.

They still have to renew after 2 years. They’re only removing the dates from the cards. According to my cfi instructor, they also added recency requirements too
@devinwilliams699Ай бұрын
There are still currency reqs. It just doesn't have to be "Renewed" every 24 cal months now.

Truth be told, there are really 2 types of active flight instructors. A young guy who got his CFI recently, and has minimal hours instructing and will typically hit 1500 hours before reaching 24 months. Or a guy who is over 65, maybe he flew for the airlines and just wants to instruct part time as a part of his retirement. I can tell you there are issues with both types of instructors, even the career instructors aren’t always that great, it really is varies based on the person.
