So the plan then I assume: - wait for Fab to release in October 2024 - buy and/or download all free assets with Fab (can't download them all anyway due to file size so 'buying' has to suffice for now) - renew older assets (from UE-Marketplace) inside Fab and install possible updates for them over time - profit for future projects Did I forget anything?

There was a clause in the blog which mentioned you had to be transparent about if your content was AI generated before putting it on Fab as well as another part where you could opt for allowing or disallowing your assets be used to train AI.

The thing I saw that made me nervous is the addition of license tiers. Currently, anything I get on the Marketplace comes worry-free as far as licensing. Will we now see price hikes for commercial usages? Or no commercial licenses at all on some products?
@LeafBranchGames3 ай бұрын
As I read it, I interpreted it as two types of licenes. A private one, so for making hobby projects, and a commercial one, for actually selling the end result. The latter on being the same (or very similar) licence as we have today. This would be a net benefit for both, since this may mean the first kind can get assets a bit cheaper. However, with that said, how I interpreted it can turn out to be incorrect. In that case, I share some of your worry.

Its such a hassle to download every or most assets from Quixel Bridge. As far as i know, there is no way of adding stuff to your cart and bulk owning assets from there. You have to manually download every asset to appear in Purchased section in Quixel bridge. Is there any other way?

Might be more streamlined in Fab, once it is here.

if i have bought from ue marketplace before and the asset got updated by the creator will i get the update after fab replaces ue marketplace?
@LeafBranchGames3 ай бұрын
On Fab yes.
@unreasonablebastards7533 ай бұрын
I am not seeing that UE Vault will be part of Fab; they have separate licenses from Marketplace so it seems likely you will actually have to re-buy every asset in order to access them for newer engine versions. I hope that is not the case, but that is how the blog reads: you will have access to your old assets "via the VAULT"- they specifically do not say you will get them on the new Fab store (i.e., you don't get the migrated versions of things you already own on Fab when it comes out, only a vault for access to OLD outdated versions of things you own for 5.4 and back). Hopefully I am wrong but it seems clear that this is what the blog says. If they were giving you your already-owned assets on Fab they would have said that.
@LeafBranchGames3 ай бұрын
Yes, items in the vault would be under a different licence than Fab. And the vault would be separate from your assets in Fab, but I have read and heard that you will be credited the asset on Fab, so you will still be able to make use of an updated version from there.

@@Alex-rl7tp I can not say for 100% certain no. But sensibility says that since the old marketplace will go defunct and Epic will auto migrate assets to Fab even if the seller does not (although it will stay on the old licence) - it is the only reasonable deduction.

It is very unfortunate that all KZbin tutorials that point to Quixel Bridge will then be out of date. With any luck they integrate Fab in a way that is very similar in terms of content accessibility.

Sigh... carrying over the star ratings but not the text is such a ridiculously short sighted approach. So many reviews are just discord verification for gatekept asset documentation...

@@LeafBranchGames Shortly after leaving that comment I went through and migrated my assets over to fab and... there's a lot of short sighted design in it sadly. Hard to say exactly how it will appear to the end user yet - there's some nice changes, but overall it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity on Epic's part.

As Fab continues to develop we plan to introduce new file formats including Minecraft and Roblox assets, access to MetaHumans, a new ratings and review system, product FAQs, and new analytics to enhance the publisher experience. - It would be nice if they add filters back. There are people who posted hundreds of ai packs that are useless. They are just wasting my time. - More honesty would also be nice but since they make a cut of the profit, I highly doubt it. By honesty I mean everything, from assets that describe themselves as beginner friendly but thousands of hours of experience and I have no clue how to use them, to lighting tricks that make the assets look far better than in reality and I can't use such lighting because it wouldn't make any sense. - I also don't think some descriptions should have been approved, like getting a massive spaghetti code but it's called a modular asset, game ready but just a few assets with no code and an empty world and it's 60 fps, - support available but you ask 1 question and get nothing or nonsense. - better documentation. I have no idea why some would rather answer the same questions on discord daily than just write those things in documentation. Too frequently I feel scammed but at least it makes me buy fewer things.

These are all aspects that would be nice as a consumer to know before buying, for sure. It is not an easy thing to quantify such things since some assets are huge and there are so many aspects to consider. But valuable to know for sure.
