Here's one thing you have to realize. Even though they were naive kids at the time, they were humble, sweet, loving human beings, which, I think, is another reason why people liked them. Sure they were flawed and went through many ups and downs, but they put their souls into what they did. Especially since they were street singers, scraping to get by, with a genuine passion for music.

Rob & Fab also didn't really have a choice when they found out they were going to just lip-synch. They had signed a contract without lawyers, managers, or really reading it themselves, likely thinking they were going to sing, then they were given money which had to be paid back to the record company, so they pretty much became professional slaves.

I wish some day down the line that they hand the grammy awards back to milli vanilli. Despite the fact that it was manufactured there are more manufactured bands / singers / groups these days than there was back in those days and besides the voices they had the full package. However, they were an unbelievable sensational group that made a massive impact on alot of lives back in the day and that is why they should be rewarded for what they did. Had nothing to do with American lawyers... this all occurred in Germany. Except for the Arsenio appearance. Even though FF was obviously a swindler, the German or newly forming EU legal system probably would have tied them up forever... and no one other than that shyster would have benefited. Who owned the record firm and where did the sales proceeds end up? What label distributed them outside of Germany? I think only this same fat-cat scooped up the big bucks there. I wonder how much he stashed in some little bank outside Zurich... his estimated worth is 40 million. I wonder how well-off all the people he tricked are doing? Apparently they never prosecuted him for anything... he must have a green card; he's living in Miami.

I think nobody expected Milli Vanilli to become an international music phenomenon. All it started was for a cover single of "Girl You Know It's True" to sell and make money. There were acts like Milli Vanilli in Europe for years, Boney M. being the biggest, but only one guy in the group was a fake and lip-synching to the producer and the group was never successful in America, but because they did dance music, they never attained any real international success or celebrity, particularly in America. What made the Milli Vanilli thing such a big deal was how big they got, especially after having won a Grammy. Milli Vanilli were one of the biggest acts in music in 1989 and Rob & Fab became celebrities.
