Definitely one of the classics. I always like these background stories of how films were developed and the thought and personalities that went into making a film. There was only one Audrey Hepburn in this world and not other actor of this day can replace her or interpret her.

In a documentary on Henry Mancini-- he said that Audrey was the only one who sang the song as he intended. He composed it based on notes he knew she could sing-- from watching her in Funny Face- where she used her own voice. Just magical- .

I first saw this movie when I was a kid back in the early 80s when they showed a midnight movie on a Saturday night. I was just about ready to turn the TV off and go to bed when this movie bega. I heard the song Moon River and saw Audrey Hepburn walking down fifth Avenue and I had never even heard of Audrey Hepburn up until that moment. I watched every second of that movie and it became an instant favourite. Almost 45 years later and it's still one of my favourites. Audrey was a gem.

Wonderful movie--romantic, funny, sad, and a classic example of Hollywood figuring out how to have it both ways with a project. Paramount had a very provocative story in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and wanted to bring it to the screen, but then worried about censor and audience reactions to a story about a NY hooker. So they cast the classy, enchanting Audrey to make it more palatable--and boy did they get lucky! Sometimes Hollywood really gets it right. Sometimes.

it's funny, but when you really listen, the lyrics to "Moon River" don't actually make sense. I certainly remember trying to figure them out when I was 7 or 8 years old (when the film came out and the song was popular), and being literal-minded at the time, I decided it was a stupid song. OK, well, now - I can accept the song as poignant and touching and appropriate for the movie. But I'm not 8 years old anymore, and I have a far better understanding of life, nearly 50 years later!
