Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil $275 vs $15 Comparison

The Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil is a fun plastic pencil extender with a built-in eraser. You can get the Perfect Pencil 9000 for about $15 ( amzn.to/4cNIwQk ) ... or you can get the luxury Graf von Faber-Castell Perfect pencil for $275 retail (or sometimes under $200 via Amazon amzn.to/3zqeTWF ). What's the difference between the two? Are these pencils even that good, let alone perfect? Should you invest in a pencil extender for your wooden pencils?

I'm trying to come up with a design for a universal pencil extender. Something that can accommodate a standard writing or drawing pencil to Caran d'ache, to Derwent Inktense to Blackwing. I've seen really nice brass extenders that I would love to have, but I'm not spending premium prices for something that can't accommodate the majority of my pencils.

Great video. I imagine when the creators of the pencil sharpener part assumed that people would be using this in an office setting or somewhere that has waste basket close by and they would just sharpen it right over that. Just my guess.

I really like Faber-Castell 9000 line, so I am tempted to buy Perfect Pencil 9000, just for fun and appreciation. It is interesting they use shorter pencil then the usual 9000, I already use tip protectors and pencil extenders, so to have same brand one is nice. But for practicality, it doesn't seem worth it.

I found some of the perfect pencils on their own. They got me the most bang for the buck. But even via eBay they were pretty expensive

The Perfect Pencil sounds like a good idea for a sketcher. Personally I would go for the 15$ version and look for a good entry level fountain pen with a gold nib. On another very different note, I got a beautiful lacquered S. T. Dupont Classique Rollerball. Had someone in this Community hacked a refill to fit it? If so, which one and what you did? Thanks in advance! EDIT: The hacking of a Dupont Classique Rollerball Refill part.

I mostly use Dutch brand Bruynzeel MXz, but I do have M&G stationary pack laying around and Blackwing 602 Mini's. I think I'll take the bw over fc

It’s the Tombow MONO Mark Sheet. It’s sold loose or in a 2 pack with the tip protector. Great pencil

Have never been drawn to Faber-Castell. Their products have always seemed unnecessarily expensive.

They also have a bizarre idea about how thick and bulky a writing instrument should ideally be. The flare shape on the end reminds me of those big upright tubas.

The pencil is decent, nowhere near the best. The sharpener isn't the best either. I've also owned both and can say they are definitely a PASS.

The Perfect Pencil oozes luxury; if you’re comfortable with that and want it, then you pay for it. If not, there’re loads n loads of options. However once you’ve used this pencil, difficult to get used to anything else.

Things aren't as good as they were made before, my preffered brand, Rotring has become pretty much a copy and paste of other companies. Sure they make decent drafting mechanical pencils but they do not make anymore cad equipment such as NC scribers, or larger NC plotters or any drafting equipment part few for schools. They really dropped out of the cad market. Oh and they used to make airbrushes and compressors, probably a copy and paste of other brands but at least it was good back then. They also made drafting machines and a computer, judging from their heritage page, or maybe it was just a stick on a different brand equipment, either way I have realised this extremely quickly since I have gotten their 1928 Limited Edition Fountain Pen, things aren't as good as they were made back then.

Fully agree. I still like their pens and pencils but Rotring of the 80s and 90s was super cool. Most of those drafting products are long gone, but I bet that largely has to do with the market shrinking for something like thst nc scriber not the Newell acquisition or anything within Rotring control. Still I think they have a lot more room to innovate or even restore items from the back catalog which have been missed.
