Regarding "Daisy," I don't think any of this really has anything at all to do with the homeless. She's an attention whore. That's all she is. Anything that will get her the attention that she didn't get growing up, that is what she'll do. Most people as they get older grow out of that kind of thing. The guy having a meltdown is a prime example of why you can't let this sort of thing go on and on and on like this for years, unchecked. We've done a terrible job managing all of this. People get comfortable setting up piles of trash and making a home on the sidewalk, the laws are not enforced in any serious way and people think they can set up forever. Then the clean ups come and they are beside themselves with frustration when their stuff is hauled away. You can't live on the sidewalk. It's illegal. But this has to be enforced with real penalties, not in this half ass way we keep doing it where they are allowed to come back again and again. People have to either accept help, leave the area permanently or they will be arrested. No more of this "gray zone" existance.

Blame the Ninth Circuit Court and their ruling several years ago…it literally tied lawmakers from enforcing the homeless camps on public property. Politicians like Newsom would wring their hands stating the 9th Circuit Court forbids us from doing anything. We can now thank the lawsuit in Oregon that went all the way to SCOTUS, which struck down the 9th Circuit, finally. Sotomayor is a liberal nut job because she dissented stating it shouldn’t be illegal to want to sleep. Like, really?! She’s unable to see the full picture so maybe she should invite some homeless to set up their camp on the street outside her home. Watch how fast she’ll get upset!

Letting homeless freely roam the streets without regulation and build encampments, abuse alcohol, drugs, evade mental health treatment is not good for them OR the public. I am a public worker and cannot un-see what I have. They have the right to be homeless but, have to be regulated just like all residents. We have to force them to seek help or treatment and not tolerate them screaming, harassing, defecating, destroying public bathrooms, and camping wherever they please. Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, V.B. San Diego are cities that decided to let homeless roam and they are going downhill fast. Sad.

What the girl is saying..is true.. you do need to be a minimalist when you live on the street. And yes there are some homeless who can be worked with and who will conform to that..but the amount that will freely or openly are minimal.. that is a fact she may not know and understand.. Factually.. there are more homeless who would throw her into the dumpster for opening her mouth..as she has absolutely noo right to assume they should be a minimalist.. and they will label her the same as the yuppies in that area..a privileged white woman. I have spoken with many homeless and have heard many more who would not agree with her. And feel that they have every right to do what they feel in the streets as homeless with no boundaries of any form. Some would though agree with her though and are actually living a minimalist lifestyle.. some have even got a hold of legit tiny homes and are working on bettering their situations.

I have someone I knew who experienced homelessness due to drug abuse and Daisy here reminds me of going there to try and help her get off the street. Nothing I did worked and it wasn’t until she quit drugs would she accept help. It all starts from their trauma and addiction.
