This is probably one the coolest thing that's happened in top level chess this year. Maybe top if it wasn't for Firouzja's results. Confirming one more time how Fabiano is just as awesome a person as he is a chess player. Thanks Eric

@@xaptive7458 1.e3,e5 2.e4,Nf6 then he can play Nf3 and get a Petrov as white because he took 2 moves to get to e4 and from there he can play the Stafford

I think the first 8/10 moves of this game follows a Stafford game Eric Rosen played with Fabi a couple of weeks ago, where Eric was playing as black
@jackson322 жыл бұрын
Yes I thought it was a great idea for black to castle queenside in that game, and maybe this player was copying that strategy. Great game by Fabi, showing why he is one of the best players in the world.

Stafford's gambit is certainly a dangerous weapon in the blitz, but it's hard to succeed against a prepared black opponent. For example, one should react as follows: 5.d3 Bc5 6.Be2 h5 and now 7.c3! (not even 7.h3!?) 7...Ng4 8.d4! Qh4 9.g3 Qf6 10.Bf3 - from a practical point of view perhaps an easier way to a decisive advantage!

4:56 why can’t white push d4 to trap the black bishop? If the black bishop move back you have e5 and if it move up you have c3. What am I missing?

I found my mistake! Black doesn’t have the move the bishop since the white queen is pinned by the black rook.

1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 Nc6 4. dxc6 5. f3 is the sickbed of Stafford Gambit user. In my own database it has only 7 games. My database provides the following lines with the help of SF 15. 5... Bc5 6. c3 a6 7. d4 5...Nh5 6. g3 g6 7.d4 5... Be6 6. d3 Nd7 7. Be3 All lines favor white.
@somechessguy2 жыл бұрын
Stafford has many 5th moves for White that do well, but I tend to prefer 5. e5. It simplifies the theory and move orders you need to learn since 99% of the time you simply follow up with 6. d4 regardless of how they respond. Aggressive replies like 5. ... Ne4 or Ng4 both lose their sting and most of their usual traps because d4 blocks Bc5 in the future.
@robertovalenzuela30922 жыл бұрын

Stafford isn't dubious otherwise petrov's is and there's another gambit for white called the hector gambit whats dubious is taking with knight on either e4 or even e5 double knight move is wrong and don't follow proper chess principal so four moves don't make a right move

The stafford is a dubious sideline of the petrov..?
