You didn't ask for this fate. The light emanates from your gloved hands, searing the leather. You look into the water and see your face, You see two faces staring back, the ripples fluctuating between the two. Both wear smiles, one sinister and one kind. Both wear crowns, one of horns and the other of light. You can choose either, but you have to choose one. But fate has sewn you to a path. You wish you weren't tied to this Fable so.

I don't even think you realize how right you are. Sure, there's nostalgia in this, I played this from waking up to sleeping, but I'm not much for nostalgia, and I still have the creeping feeling that this game created nostalgia on its OWN. There's something about this game. The music. The characters. The story. And frankley, I don't care if I'm making into "more" than it is, 'cause I really believe it should be regarded as something to be in awe for. If I'd use a word, it'd be "haunting".

For me personally, it was the combination of so many things. The story, your choices, your actions and consequences, the characters, the landscape, the atmosphere, but the glue that held it all together for me was the soundtrack. How can a song be so earthly and celestial at the same time. The single most calming song ive ever heard in my life so far, im so glad i grew up watching my mom play Fable so much, its probably had a deeper impact on me than i know. Despite the bad choices companies make, media has a way of impacting people more than any of us can understand whether you choose to acknowledge it or not; same as consciousness itself. The Greek origins for the word "history" is linked to one of the Greek Muse's Clio, whom is "the proclaimer" and is associated (among other related things) with proclaiming the stories of heroic acts, thus a mythological & etymological origin for history is heroic acts and telling them to people (the other muses are examples of the different ways in which to share these stories). How has stories, the Arts (music, illustration, literature, videos games, etc.) impacted you? Do you let it or acknowledge it? Sometimes magic isnt about the circumstances of how things came into existence, its the fact that it exists because of life, creation, and destruction; and sometimes magic is just your own personal feelings. There is magic in the air itself, what people have done with our carbon dioxide excretion is a lot; but the things that have stood the test of time is the Arts, or rather the ones that was able to survive the many horrible deeds in that time. Maybe this is a too deep of a comment for a silly song from a silly game, as im sure many modern gamers would see this as. But as far as i see it, being a or into nerdy things wasnt just a hobby in the beginning. Im sure many things that have been popularized came from oddball, if not demonized origins of peoples interests but i can only think of 2 example for the modern era; video games and serial killers/"true crime". Being interested and (literally) reading into serial killers and murders used to be a very scary thing to be witnessed doing, you would've been seen as a freak and now its borderline normal to say youre interested in such things. We have come far in 2 decades. And being a nerd (although i dont know a lot about the history, or the grandfathers to our accepted nerdy norm) used to be a borderline magical thing. Finding good games and spending your time investing yourself into them, because they were really hard back in the day (and not in the rage style games that are made now that are intent on making you feel that) or you just wanted to find all the secrets, or you simply really enjoy it. The local group of nerds was a thing you had to find for yourself in just the right places if you weren't lucky enough to already have nerdy friends, and to see how you guys raised each other up because of this oddball understanding. I dont want to say a "true" nerd so ill say "classical" instead is genuinely socially awkward, not in a cute way either, in a borderline detrimental to yourself if you are socially active constantly. Thats why you had so much time to invest yourself into the games you love. Loving games wasnt about "whats the next most cool game by the best company that will make a ton of sales and everyone is gonna have it", it was about what made the nerd in you, your own person, spark in nerdy joy. Games were passion projects, at least the best ones can be, and if they didnt start that way it was still made with enough integrity that the player could find something good in it despite its flaws (glitches, bugs, saving errors, etc.) in fact sometimes it made it better, albeit more frustrating. My main point about "classical" nerds is that, for many this just kind of goes over peoples heads or they just dont care, but *a lot* of nerdy stuff comes from ancient (most of the time European) Pagan mythology. It is quite hard to look into throughly for reasons i wont get into rn because this is long enough already, but most nerdy concepts come from the remnants of Pagan mythology. I do say that mythology has been casted off as just stories, but they are just as religious as the bible is for Christians, but not in the same way for reasons, again, that i wont go into because this is long enough already; but a key word i have been interested in when thinking about this subject is "archetypes", thats all ill say. No matter how much people deny it, these timeless things have magic, and impact. The excuses or demeaning nature of the people caught up in the popularization of video games is sad, we all enjoy things how we do for ourselves, but when did it turn into a battle of how good the games are instead of the fact that we like them despite their flaws?

Am I the only one who got a sorta fairy tale vibe from the games? Like specifically Fable 2, playing it and listening to the music made me feel like I was in some old fairy tale book kept all the way in the back of a library, its cover faded and coated in a layer of dust, the pages smelling of that old book smell and the stories pulling you in and making you feel like you were in another world.

This track feels so otherworldly, so mystical and wonderous Yet with nothing but the whisper of an almost magical chime, it feels so powerful in a strange way Fable didn't just tell a tale It created a world and a feeling that is so deeply intertwined with it I feel Fable is the definitive version of a unique kind of fantasy setting, one that we don't see often Despite how far the map stretches, you still feel there's so much the people of Albion haven't discovered And no matter how deep or intricate the guild's teachings may become, the libraries seem like they may never hold all the knowledge the world can offer Even the circular room with all the past events leaves out so much from the protagonist's own personal tale It always felt like there was so much more than what we could see hear or read, and i've never come across a fantasy world that felt like this before I so deeply wish the franchise was still around and well, for i ache so much to see more of this magnificent world And worst of all _No amount of donations to the temple of light has solved this problem_

everytime they make a new fable, i buy it, hoping it is as wonderful and enchanting as the first. but it never happens, and that is why i cry myself to sleep everynight

Fable has a special place it my heart. The game felt like a bedtime story, the hero always struggling but prevailing against the big bad at the end.

The first fable was magical. Can't believe they couldn't remotely keep the same energy.

I can stop playing the game whenever this comes on and listen to the music for hours, which is probably why i had a hard time starting fable 2 when that came out

Я один-два раза перепроходил Fable во многом за тем, чтобы под конец сюжета привести персонажа в коридор арены, украшенный величественными статуями героев, и, наблюдая за суровым взором их каменных глаз, послушать эту прекрасную мелодию.

Im glad someone feels the same way I do about that game, some truly magical about that game, maybe it was the fact that the hero didnt speak, and that the storyline as one of cliche or classical. But it was done so beautifully. My favorite single player game of all time, nothing even comes close.

This gives me nostalgia without even playing it in my life. My first time I saw a Fable game was when my uncle played the second one. I was too young to understand it, but when Fable III came out, my dad got it. I played it and I loved it. Since the second Fable, I fell in love. If only I had the same feeling for this one, for I get a nostalgic feeling for a game I’ve never played.
