Propane actually doesn't have any smell, they put an additive in it to give it that smell. It's called Mercaptan. But yes Propane comes from crude oil and natural gas.

Lap only seat belts are worse than no belts. In an accident they allow the torso to rotate around the stomach that can cause horrific internal injuries as well as still allowing the head to contact the dashboard. Michelle's face and innards are worth more than that. If you have shoulder straps, wear them they do a wonderful job of restraining the torso. There are times when no belts are a safe option, usually in very slow wheelin'

The smell is added to propane . A special additive called ethyl-mercaptain is added to propane for safety reasons. Because propane is invisible and odorless you are only able to detect a leak when you smell the odor associated with propane.

Lol. The smell in propane is added at the refinery. It's a stinky chemical called mercaptan. Propane and natural gas are colorless, odorless gases so if it weren't for the addition of mercaptan leaks would be much more dangerous. I was a metal fabricator and certified welder at Giant refinery in Gallup, N. M. and had to build and replace the mercaptan vessel there. It's unbelievably stinky....

You guys are smelling the H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) from the breakdown of the animal. Same deal can happen underground with natural gas. Yes natural gas has a lot of elements but the H2S is predominantly what you smell most. From an old oilfield hand in Oklahoma…Thanks for the content Fab Rats! Going to order my new shirts soon!
