Maybe, just maybe I have a tip for you. I was a pipe welder, instrumentation bender for many years. I always start to the left side of my bends, and bend in order from left to right. All you need then is the "take-out" of your bender from 0 to next 90. Always put the left measurment first, and always have the bend to your right.

As someone who has a background in building NHRA legal chassis and cages I know how frustrating bending tube can be sometimes. I just want to thank you for all the laughs I had watching you work on that one tube. I lay mine out using math then I have pre marked test bends that starts at a fixed mark on my bender then you have the measured test piece you can tell how much the tube shrinks and tell where the center of the bend is.

Suggestion if you take a piece of wire stiff wire and bend it first to the Benz that you need and then lay that on top of your pipe in your Bender it works so much easier that's why you do mufflers underneath the car too just a suggestion

As an electrician, I tend to make "start of bend" marks when using a JD2 style bender. It's how I'm used to marking for conduit benders. Whenever I use center of bend, I make mistakes. Just keep a scrap bent 90* to hold in place to measure to.

Anybody who has had to put 3 bends in one piece of pipe has learned that the hard way.
@calholli
@calholli Жыл бұрын
Michelle, Please have Paul read this: You have to take some practice pipe-- and measure say 12" to a desired bend; Bend it at your 12" mark; and then measure what the ACTUAL length ended up being (lets say it ended up being 14 3/4")-- then you'll know that 2 3/4" is your offset for that particular die- at that given pipe size. So on every other bend after that, you'll know to simply subtract your offset from the length you want, and you'll land on the right bend every time/ rather than guessing. Cheers.

"Love watching all your creative builds and adventures." Thank You for sharing! Just a thought to help save time and material. Save some of the cardboard boxes for pattern material. You can tape them together and make a pattern of the area you wish to bend your pipe. Then all you have to do is lay the cardboard pattern on the floor and match it with the pipe. I helped my dad build airplanes and that pattern tip really helped us.

A little trick I’ve used when bending DOM is I start with electrical conduit. A 3/4 inch conduit bender has a 6 inch bend radius which matched my tube bender dies. I bend the conduit for every radius. Rotate every bend to where I need it, cut them to size, Tack it all together and use that as a template to make my final bends on the DOM. Just did a roll cage and every final bend was perfect. No wasted DOM. Worked for me, might work for you
@haroldphipps3457

There is also "Bend Tech Pro". I wasn't a believer, till a dragster builder helped us bend some DOM tube, and then some expensive S.S. tube for a diving platform on a boat. The formulas are on his phone, And it makes a HUGE difference! If you don't like your JD2 knockoff, get a MITTLER BROTHERS bender, or the Baliegh knock off. Bailey might be up for sponsoring a fab channel. (Just sayin).

All you need to do is Mark where the star is or the mark on the die and deduct 6 in, or whatever it is it goes up 1 in for larger size and always measure to the back of your bend, but there will be times when you're bending from the other end and you will have to use half that deduction.
