Love this. I made quilted fabric postcards as invites for my mother's 80's birthday party. Big deal in a rented mansion. Then I made table runners at the venue in some of the same fabrics as used in the cards. I transferred an image of my Mom at age 5 or so in a dress they used to make out of flour sacks, and one of the prints matched (sort of) the print on her dress. It was a lot of work but very successful. Everyone got their postcards. People who couldn't attend the party wanted the post card! Got some ideas from your video. I used the plastic bag as mailers. Used Pellon and batting. The details of the party were printed on a card stock and glued to the back. No trouble with postage as I recall - but we took them to the post office and they said no problem. Keep up the crafting

Love this tutorial! I made a postcard for my sister-in-law’s birthday. It was so much fun! The sky is the limit! I choose to put it in an envelope and when I took it to the post office I asked for it to be “hand stamped”. They put a special sticker on the envelope and it mailed in perfect condition. My sister-in-law loved it! Thank you for sharing this inspiration 🥰

Hi Julia, I've taught fabric post card classes for 5 years. I've learned everything about fabric card art and the mailing instructions, which can change from Post office to Post office. I mailed all mine in the sleeve that you showed and applied a first class stamp on the outside of the sleeve. Also, the post card needs to have some stiffness so it can safely pass through the rollers that sort the mail. The sleeve also protects the card from whatever grease there may be on the rollers. I highly recommend the 4x6" size. Paper or card stock works well for the back of the card or a piece of PFD or muslin fabric pressed to the card stock, using wonder under or similar interface lining. I have accumulated many postcards and keep them in the fancy shoe boxes that are sole in all craft stores. I'll look up the facebook group you mentioned.

Hi Phyllis, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! My postman was not very helpful. It's good to know that you use the clear envelope and put the class not the outside of the sleeve. That was one of my questions to the postman. I love this idea so much and the size is great for trying new techniques. Happy creating! Julia

I just absolutely love your work. You are so creative. I use to sew and craft when my children were growing up. Then I became a childcare provider and ran a Group Home Daycare and didn't have much time for extra activities. You have inspired me to start back. I'm 70 now and live in a small apartment. I have started to redo my bedroom and make one side into my sewing corner. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Faye, My sewing area is on one side of our guest bedroom now. I have moved several times throughout the years and have many different sewing/craft areas. Many in my laundry room or on my dining room table. You will be able to make it work. Sewing is very therapeutic for me. I am glad you are getting back into it. Thanks for watching my videos. Julia

Oh Julia these are SEW awesome! I 💜💙💚💖🧡 both of them. I have heard of it but think they have to go in an envelope so they don’t get torn and messed up in the mail. I just love watching you create. It makes my day when I see a new video from you. Would love to receive something you have designed & created. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Hugs! 💝💝💝😍😍😍

Hi Pam, I agree with the envelope. I like the idea of the clear envelope- more eyes can see it. I really love this idea. I so appreciate your comments and sharing the passion of sewing,
@pamketron6 жыл бұрын
stitchesbyjulia I agree - the clear envelope would be great. If u choose to mail them in clear envelopes be sure to include your blog & channel so that folks along the way can go and see all the great things you do. If I was a postal worker, I would be sad if there was no way to see who created this fabulous gift and have the opportunity to watch you create. Could add a lot of new people to your channel. This is an item you can make and put in your Etsy shop. Both are gorgeous!

I have made a Post Card, it was for a challenge Maggie White's channel. My post card was all fabric with a image on the front ( transferred onto fabric ) decorated with lace and beads. The back was also fabric, it had Postcard printed on it. Again transferred to the fabric. I sewed it altogether like a cushion ( pillow ) although it had batting in between. Turned it right side out and decorated it. We didn't actually send it this way, it was popped in a post bag. Everyone who took part in the challenge thoroughly enjoyed making them. Your Art, Textile fabric post card looks fun and I enjoyed your tutorial. Avril xx

Hi Julia. Years ago I took and taught a postcard fiber art class. After the class we all mailed postcards to each student in the class. FYI please be sure to mention the maximum size for postcards in order to mail with postcard postage, or else you will be charged the letter rate or more depending on the size. I do believe the max size is still 4"x6" for postcards. Also embellishments can change the postage. It is so much fun to receive these in the mail! Thanks so much for sharing. I love all your videos!

These are super adorable! I’ve made & sent a lot of paper-crafted/rubber-stamped mail art. Almost always had good luck with even with non-standard format addressing & unusual stuff. The trick is to seal it up well with extra clear tape over the closure on a crystal clear transparent envelope bag & then stick a boat-load of extra postage on it. If you collect fun commemoratives & pretty make-up rate postage stamps you can have a lot of fun arranging it artfully on the envelope. I also would add a message to please hand cancel (inside the clear envelope outer envelope). Also helps to drop it at post offices in art-enclave neighborhoods/towns, if you have that option. 🧡🧡🧡

Hello Julia, I have made fabric postcards before and sent them for xmas last year. I used an envelope to keep my art work nice and clean. The cards were highly appreciated and much fun to make. Love, love, love making and sending postcards. Talk about instant gratification!! It’s something you can make and finish if you want to take a break from those pesky ufos or a large project. It’s something you can create in a short time and easily share with friends, and, like I said before, pretty much...instant gratification! I always take mine into the post office to have them hand canceled. Putting them through the machine can leave black marks, but some folks feel that just adds to the art and shows they’ve gone through the system. What I get charged to mail them usually depends on the postal worker waiting on me and their understanding of the rules. I only use the clear envelopes when there is an item on the card that might catch on something, but if you want to make sure they arrive pristine, use the envelopes. Even using the envelopes, I have the stamps added and the card hand canceled before sealing it in the envelope. Thank you so much for the info on the Facebook group. I’ve already signed up!!!

Hi Jackie, Thank you so much for all your information! I agree with the instant gratification, it's such a great size to try new ideas etc. Sounds like it's the luck of the draw who helps you at the PO:) I've actually heard this from someone else too. Thanks for watching and happy crafting! Julia

Hi Julia, I have made several of these fabric postcards. In the Illinois area I am told by the post office these can not go through their machines without damage. Putting these in an envelope is the best way to send and would cost no more than a letter. This of course depends on the size an weight. As always I enjoy your talent and thank you for sharing.

As always, very inspired, I will find out what it's like to post them in the uk, and as you say sizing or wrapping for post . I've heard of them being put into clear plastic wallets. So I will visit my post office and feed back once I've tried it. Thanks for the tips

5/29/22 I have made these before and had no problem mailing them. I want to do better though. I have all the supplies so that's good. I may do a fabric background and put Tim Holts wildflowers on top of that.Another Idea is all fabric and an applique on top. Thank you Julia

A great idea for "Mothers Day" school stalls . If we made them as cards to be used after as mug rugs. Two gifts in one.
