i don t know if that was meant "dislike" haha...but i personally do NOT like it...there are plenty far more insightful and more musical actually...anyway...MARTHA great a TECHNICIAN she is ...can always be counted to be super briliance..super fast...AND to ME super-shallow...the performances she DOES have a REALLY like...are more in the LOUD concertos...that everyone uses as standards of "all -time greatness" playing them FASTER nad LOUDER and BANGIER than "anyone that ever lived"..but she plays them rther well...or rather..their NOTINESS FITS HER... the faster she is given opportunity ..the BETTER SHE appears...there are such , plenty of pieces like after all...great HANDS and everyone in the big hall is happy. that's MARTHA . but DO NOT expect insights from her on JS BACH..BEETHOVEN..MOZART...BRAHMS...but she plays RAVEL VERY VERY WELL..especially her GASPARD de la NUITS...HER PROKOVIEFF CONCERTO IN C ..A GREAT performance...but people do NOT need to put her on MT OLYMPUS on a par with the likes of SVIATOSLAV Richter. (whose performance of this same work is beyond Martha s artistic reach...or in beauty of EACH tone) ..on one hand...or say..GLENN GOULD on the other hand...nor in CHOPIN etdues (complete) with even the LIVE performances of Richter...or WILHELM BACKHAUS..just not at their physical or ARTISTIC levels...

Mark Smith That's a good point because out of all the other genre's aside from classical, Heavy Metal's perhaps one of the most musically developed, it's quite closely linked to classical in terms of dynamic contrasts and introduction of new musical sections (as opposed to pop music which just repeats the hell out of everything). It just depends on what people prefer, I can see the appeal of repeating a decent riff over and over although it can become a bit overused in pop, and in terms of classical vs metal I prefer classical because it's not as overpowering (I can actually do work whilst listening to classical as opposed to metal, which is more a kinda sit-up-and-listen kind of thing, it doesn't really do quiet or subtle)

Why do you find it the least romantic? I find it very Romantic, with the minor key, and the extended thematic material. I would consider some of his early efforts far less Romatic such as K. 238, the early K. 413-415 pieces etc which are very classical in outline.

That pianist BUCHERED the Dminor concerto, it was the absolute WORST I have ever heard. My first impression of this concerto is it have a completely different taste in all Mozart's piano concerto. I have a feeling of the pain of war everytime i listen to this masterpiece. masterpiece.

Back in the late '70's and early '80's I went on a Mozart binge, borrowing records from the library every chance I got. This one was my favorite. I remember hearing #21 and being surprised that the "Elvira Madigan" second movement was written by Mozart. I thought it was contemporary. It was the theme song of a local radio show a few years earlier, so I hadn't ever heard more than about a minute of it. Anyway, #20 was my favorite of the several I listened to, especially the Romance (second movement). When I saw _Amadeus_ I felt it was so fitting for it to be the closing music. What surprised and satisfied me deeply was that when the movie ended, only about a dozen people left the theater. There we were, over a hundred people, just sitting there all the way through the credits until the piece ended. Edit: When I said "favorite", I just meant among the piano concertos.

Argerich captures the demonic in Mozart better than anyone. This piece is full of anger and metaphysical rage. Mozart is saying "I know the state of things and it's bad." And he's pissed about it. He's trying constantly to contain the anger but it continually breaks free. It seems he's finally done it in the second movement, but then in the middle section it breaks out again with even greater vehemence. In the third movement the anger is taken to an even higher level until a breaking point is reached. But the D major reached at the conclusion of the piece is not a victory, but a cynical conclusion to an epic battle. Mozart seems to be saying that there is no solution, and the only response left is satire. Stick your tongue out at the devil and he'll go away. A fascinating piece which was extremely avant-garde at the time it was written and again demonstrated that in Music there was Mozart and then everyone else. He was very far ahead of his colleagues and it is questionable whether even the Romantics fully understood the implications of what he was doing. This is a truly great performance and Argerich and Rabinovitch come very close to capturing and expressing what this incredible piece is about.

I loved this interpretation although there are many criticisms about the tempo and the speed.At the time of Mozart this work of art was mainly by a harpsichord and it could not be played that fast,butthe most important thing is that I felt so emotional and gave me goosebumps,even though it seems more from the romanticiscm than classicism. This concerto was written with a piano in mind, not harpischord. Piano allows so much more modulation and it's used by Mozart here. You can listen to keyboard concertos by Bach played with a piano and the difference is huge. In Mozart's times, the tuning standard was lower and obviously you would play slower, because the sound quality wasn't as high, it would be a little fuzzy if rushed.

Faster tempo, good production to make sure neither the orchestra or piano part are muted when they are harmonizing together, playing like someone is singing the tune and accenting the melody in the right places...results in such responses. Bravo Martha Argerich. Even though this is not a technically perfect performance, for me it's still sublime. Not everything has to be flawless notes, music is much more than that. I feel Argerich has a deep connection to the emotional notes of this beautiful oeuvre. Studying under Friedrich Goulda gave her that insight ( he is my favourite Mozart interpreter to this day). This is an ambitious, modern interpretation. It goes to show that this piano concerto was ahead of its times and you can do a lot with it as an interpreter. And the quality for a youtube video is very high, the piano in 3rd movement sounds particularly sharp and crisp.

Aquí Mozart se rebela como un genio desatado, algo muy superior y adelantado a su tiempo. Martha Argerich исполняет Piano concerto Mozart 20 in D minor так, что вспоминается движение "Буря и натиск"во главе с Шиллером и Гете. Как ярко, драматично и даже трагедийно прозвучала первая часть-Allegro у пианистки и оркестра. Вторая часть (Romance) - тонкое, проникновенное звучание, полное нежности и грусти. Третья часть (Allegro assai) сыграна с акцентированием ярких контрастов, подчеркиванием драматизма в музыке композитора. Мне близка такая трактовка. Она потрясает! Светлана Давыдова

"акцентированием ярких контрастов" - это как? А еще: "проникновенное звучание" - не очень выраженице... И вот это: "драматизма в музыке композитора" - это же Моцарт!!! а не Бетховен...

Argerich started playing piano at the age of 2 because someone said “i bet you to play piano”, and right after that Argerich started playing flawlessly a piece she heard from her teacher , at the age of 8 she played her first concerto with a real orchestra, which was Mozart’s piano concerto in d minor.
