Much emotion does not equal to good emotion. If you what to see more emotion, you want a clip of a road rage.

Einfach wunderbar!

Much Mozart and many other things with Maestro Maag (I adored working with him) and Prokoviev 3 and the Schumann with Argerich (who left me utterly speechless and inspired, not only as a musician, but as a woman.) All the best to you to find the CD!

I REALLY do NOT like to hear Mozart's masterpiece performed at that tempo!!! It IS FAR TOO quick!!!!!!! When it is performed at that speed it sounds as though everyone thinks it is an unpleasant task that they have to undertake whether they like it or not. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's compositions are meant to savoured. Each note is meant to drip from your tongue and absorbed to its fullest like the finest vegan wine. You should listen to Lang Lang perform the slow movement of this concerto. He plays it at EXACTLY the right speed and makes ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the audience is able to savour the SHEER BEAUTY of EACH ABD EVERY NOTE TO IT'S FULLEST. Then again, the Chinese genius has ALWAYS had a TRUE talent for knowing EXACTLY how to interpret ANY piece he performs, no matter who the composer is. Julie Gill, Glasgow, Scotland

You could say it much more simply - I adore Lang Lang's performance. I don't like everything else.

Your unconditional admiration for Lang Lang makes you reverse the burden of proof: because Lang Lang plays a work with such a tempo, it is therefore the exact tempo for this work. No, that is in no way the truth.
@YueLi-vw4rg
@YueLi-vw4rg 6 ай бұрын
I agree with you. Lang might be better than her in interpreting Mozart pieces. But I think the key problem is more than tempo. Mozart pieces can be played fast. The major issue is: when you play fast, you shouldn't hit that hard as Martha did. Otherwise, that would sound like playing Prokofiev or other Russian pieces that feature extreme fury and horror. Ironically, the melody of this piece features joy and delights. As a result, audiences might be confused about what you're trying to express in the piece. Interestingly, Lang hit hard and played slow at the same time, and he chose specific Mozart pieces that are less joyful than this one (concerto 21). So his interpretation made sense! That said, honestly, it's just too hard to find someone who' better than Lang in playing a piano concerto nowadays. His cadenza is too good. Mozart is not even his best area...

You cannot compare Lang Lang to Martha Argerich... One already made history. The other is just part of it.
@YueLi-vw4rg
@YueLi-vw4rg 6 ай бұрын
@@marcvilleneuve1889 It depends on how you assess the greatness of pianists. Martha wins more support from the media, Lang wins more support from audiences given his album sales. What's more, there's regional difference in aesthetics. Lang has gained more recognition in Germany than in the USA. Anyway, the video is about Mozart. Martha is great in playing Chopin and Russian pieces, but you can't expect a pianist to be perfectly all-round in playing different types of pieces.

Martha and Maag here putting pedal to the metal. For an equally lively but more poised Mozart try Argerich and Goldberg in K. 503. None better, I think.

@@weiliu3623 This is a live recording with a 19 year old Martha Argerich. Her interpretation is full of life, freshness and an unpretentious naturalness. This is perhaps not the version I would choose if I had to pick out just one, but I find it very enjoyable. Maria Tipo's is perhaps more mature and closer to what we expect when playing Mozart, but we can very well appreciate different versions, each with a personal view at the work.

Yes, it is very fast. However, just like Heifetz and Gould, when she plays fast she does so with perfect articulation of the notes and with excellent phrasing. So, this is a perfectly valid musical interpretation -- a refreshing change of pace.

Argerich's phrasing is exquisite and intensively lyrical. Not just her phrasing but also modulation as forte gives way to piano. Not just phrasing but architecture of the whole as the movements each prepare for the next. The lyrical purity of a child's voice. The definition of Mozart.

This was recorded in 1960. Martha Argerich was 19 years old. I would add that the second movement is an andante, not an adagio!
