I for one approve of the facelessness! It sets the channel apart from all the others. It also keeps the focus on the watches; unlike all those disgusting "influencers" who are all about themselves. This is a great channel with a great format! :)
@bobmclennan17272 жыл бұрын
I noticed that the guys over on WatchAdvisor are starting to do something similar to Watchfinder in recent months: you'll get a minute or two of video with the host speaking to an industry guest, and then he'll explicitly state "ok, we're here to see the watches, not us" and the rest of the video will be close-ups of the model(s) in question. Personally I like Watchfinder's faceless focus on the products of the day, but if they started offering brief shots of the hosts at the start of each video, that'd be kinda neat too... just as long as the watches remain the primary focus. My wife and I use KZbin for a lot of travel planning, and there's an almost rock-solid rule: the more you see of a host's face, the less informative/helpful the video becomes.

No face means more watch porn, and THAT is what this channel is all about!!! One of the reasons I started my channel was to SHOW WATCHES, as I was getting annoyed by reviews where the host is filming themselves from 2 feet away holding the watch in their hands with the focus on the host and the watch being just a part of the video. You couldn't see the details, the finishing nor the beauty of the timepiece. Your channel changed that greatly and it is the one I aspire to be like one day, although tutorials are the "bread and butter" of my channel. Wish you all the best and keep 'em coming 🙂

Couldn't agree more. As much as I want to know more about talking hands man, there's something about the mystique that gives this channel so much charm and make the videos really hard to look away from.

While agreeing with the views expressed here in this reply set and others throughout this I have since the start admired your approach to focus on the watch and your great use of macro photography. As a photographer myself I know how challenging it is to get that level of macro and keep the contrast while also keeping some modicum of DoF ... heck way back I even asked about your choice of display camera in your openings (hard to be sure but I believe its an MX). I approve of the "discussion" pair of "radio announcers" (and this is indeed a history tested formula) and I hope that you can continue in good directions. Best Wishes (from a slightly watch collecting nerd)

I personally enjoy the face-hidden approach, gives a more mysterious vibe and allows the watch(es) as well as the narrated content to be the stars of the videos. As for the price bubble, I would say it is intimately connected to the global inflation amid the pandemic and monetary stimulus, and when all the central banks are forced to increase their interest rates, the inflation/asset bubble bursts, and the watch price bubble comes down with it.

The channel really has become so much more "personal" over the last year or so, which I think I can speak for many and say that we love that. As far as the regular "reviews" go, and I know that they are always more than reviews, I think the current format is perfect. I think that on the "podcast" format it'd be great to have you and Tom on screen. You two have such a great banter...I think facial expressions would just add to it.

Please don't take this the wrong way. This long longer format is good. Just don't make the reviews second to it. Or put equal parts out there. KZbin has a good amount of people talking at length already. Yes plenty of people who do similar style reviews as well. But you're the gold standard of reviews. The perfect amount of facts mixed with the perfect amount of opinion.

Honestly, I really like the format you present. It makes it a bit more mysterious, makes the entire focus go on the voices, and the watches, and honestly that’s all we need. Not to mean I don’t want to see your face, I just think the current minimalistic setup works great!

I have to agree with so many others that this is an amazing channel. I always find the information interesting even on watch trends I am not really interested in generally. I like the current formats you have, the shorter 10 minute reviews of a watch where it is about 99% beautiful macro shots of the watch you're discussing, and also the longer "chats" with Tom. These could easily be podcasts rather than videos and most of the time I have them on in the background rather than specifically watching them. I don't feel the need to see you guys. I saw the AP video before with you in and thought it was going to be a big reveal of some sort (I don't know what), but when watching it was just thinking "he's just another bloke" haha! Happy to keep the format as it is, makes it stand out from the crowd and keeps the focus on the products. Keep up the good work

About trying on watches... I was in a Rolex AD with my wife looking at their "exhibition" pieces. came across the 41 datejust wimbledon, one that i've tried on as a 36 before, but not in 41. I politely asked if i was able to try on the 41mm, but they told me, no they were for viewing only. I said ok thanks, and we left immediately. It's not like they were busy. in terms of a face reveal I am rather perplexed. A part of me says yes, maybe this introduces a new way to have the conversations with Tom. Possibly seeing a refined backdrop with a watch shop and a field in the background with two gentlemen sipping coffee talking about watches sounds appealing. Another part of me accepts that this channel is run by microphones talking to each other and I've grown to like it. As others have stated, I feel it allows us to focus on the watches and the mystique of a faceless channel allows our imagination to work in a way that connects us to the watches to a more personal degree.

Yes seen your face in the AP video. But I do believe having a face would better connect with the audience, them just hands. Although there should be a balance; by balance I mean more of watches footage then yourself. But showing your face you would definitely connect with larger audience. Another suggestion if you like, is by featuring guests with their watch collections. Could be celebrates, or general public with some unique pieces. honestly I don't mind 'with or without' faces. It all boils down to how you present yourself on the channel and I don't mean how well dressed you are. I watch videos (yes I am obsessed with watches/watchmaking, own too many of them :-) ) on different channel and I don't get annoyed by the people being in the video. It comes down to whether they want to be the star of the show or the watch they are talking about. What I appreciate and love of this channel is the 'tone' of the video. So for me with or without doesn't matter as long as you keep creating great content as you have done so far, I will remain subscribed to your channel and will watch your videos. (PS.
