RIP to Ron Ely. Sending love to his family. 💙 On a game show with a set that was cheesier than the mozzarella sticks here in NJ, Ron was a damn good host. He’ll be missed.

I remember being very small and if it was a rainy day, my mom and I would be tuned into USA Network watching many shows including Face the Music, High Rollers( the first show I saw featuring you) and Press Your Luck. Thank you for unlocking this awesome memory Wink!

I loved watching face the music growing up. It had an exciting style of play and one of my favorite sets of all time. I wish it had lasted longer. I’ve seen many of the episodes that have been posted to KZbin and still enjoy watching it.

On other games shows, people just hit the buzzer. On this show, they also shout: "I got it!" The contestants certainly have fun. They move around and dance.

Wow. This reminds me of that episode of Remote Control where all three contestants were so bad that Ken ejected them all. I'll bet Ron was about pulling his teeth out on this one. RIP, sir.

I just Googled Ron, and just realized he passed away about a month ago in his daughter's home. I didn't remember that he once played Tarzan. About "Face the Music," I wonder if someone would want to revive this show. I know Fox has a new version of "Name That Tune" now, and ABC also brought back "Press Your Luck," "$100,000 Pyramid," "To Tell the Truth" and briefly "Card Sharks."

I bet anyone did not know that in that Captain and Tenille puzzle...the song "The Reluctant Dragon" made a reference to Daryl Dragon a/k/a The Captain. He played keyboards while part of the Beach Boys, where he got his stage name "Captain Keyboard" because he wore a ship captain's hat while performing. Mike Love of The Beach Boys gave Dragon his nickname "Captain Keyboard."

I was a young teen when this first aired. I was always pulled in by the challenging end game. I thought it was an inventive way to settle a champion, with a little drama if you could figure someone out on a baby picture and a vague musical title.

RIP Ron. I hear he was a very nice guy and although I get the impression he wasnt really that interested in hosting a game show, He still made the best of the gig, enjoyed it and gave it his best effort. And as nice a guy as he was, also a tough guy. Often did all his own stunts when he was Tarzan. Heard a story of one case they had a tiger in a pit. (In the show Tarzan was fighting a tiger), they wanted some up close shots of the tiger snarling and swiping at the camera etc. but the camera man refused to do it. So Ron offered to did it himself. He said he regretted cause he never really occurred to him just how big a risk he was taking.

Is memory serving me correctly that the theme song was also used in the 80s version of "Name That Tune"? They also had an orchestra, so I am sure it was.
@MDCSWildcats8622 күн бұрын
NTT84 had a different theme song. Tommy Oliver and the orchestra were utilized on both shows. Sandy Frank was an XP of both, as were Ray Horl & Peggy Touchstone as producers.

Now you know that that one song title is wrong! Any Coca-Cola drinker, including myself, knows it's called "I'd like to teach the world to sing". I say "Coca-Cola drinker" because that song was used on that famous commercial with the singers on the hilltop. 12:22 If the CONTESTANTS only had a brain. And for the overall episode: Three Christmas songs in one episode? What are the odds?

RIP Ron Ely. Anyone else think that the contestants lounge, prior to the show, had just massive piles of columbian marching powder in there for them to imbibe? What else would explain their poor play and extreme enthusiasm?

The enthusiasm came from Ray Horl --- the show's producer.
