A note on what he mentioned about not owning your games. CD Projekt runs a site called GOG where all game you buy through it are drm-free, meaning you actually own the games you purchase and can download and modify the files as much as you'd like. If you want to own your games for real use GOG.

Tip) If you get forge you can install a mod called world edit, it makes building much faster and easier as you can replace blocks with another block in 2 clicks and you can fill large areas with air or more blocks, It will speed up your builds a lot (There's a lot more features and it's free)
