no problem carbs will clean out. Get yor mechanic to do it as you planned in ep 1

Thank you for the comment, I really plan to do it all myself and the mechanic as a back up plan, i want to learn this stuff.

You are working through in a very systematic way and are applying thought as you go.If you carry on in the same fashion you will make a fine job. Good luck and keep us posted

I'm watching intently! I suggested a few things such as using four Tupperware containers, checking the rubber boots but, you're already on top of that! You're a braver man than I fella! I took mine to a garage and paid through the arse for a carb clean. NRP carburettors (N R P Carburettor & Diaphragms Manchester) if you need new jets etc for the carbs. Mine runs great after replacing with these.
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
well proof is in the pudding! lol. I hope this runs well, I simply cannot afford to pay someone, or to lose the money on the bike! Its my work transport

@pugsleyenoch1558Ай бұрын
Hi mate the fuel tap is vacuum controlled it should have on, prime, res, position when in prime fuel will flow free when in on or res it needs vacuum to flow that's the thin pipe that goes direct to the carb throat. If you need any info I can help I have years of fixing and tuning bikes. also behind the float valve it has tiny mesh strainers remove each valve and clean those they are probably full of bits of crap. also install an inline filter to keep any more crap out
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
Thank you for the comment, I plan to get one of those inline filters but I'm worried i didn't know about that tiny mesh behind the float valve, as I'm not certain what a float valve is or where to find it? I have cleaned the jets they were blocked completely in two of them
@martinowlАй бұрын
The black plastic knurled knob is the throttle stop. It controls the engines revs when the bike is idling. Turn one way increases the revs, the other way decreases them. If the carbs are still dismantled, I would spray carb cleaner through all the airways & orifces in the carb bodies. Also ideally if you have access to a compressor, blow through the airways & orifices & jets with compressed air. Hopefully this should clear all the tiny drillings in the carb bodies of any crud that may be in there. When you spray a passage in the carb body the fluid should come out at the other end of the drilling, wherever it is. If you spray in & it doesn’t exit, then that’s a sign of a blocked passageway. Good luck & hopefully some progress in the next episode.
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
Thank you for this comment! I have not compressor, but i have used carb cleaner, and bought carb cleaning tools, so i can clear the jets out. As two are just blocked completely. are inline filters a standard size to connect to a fuel hose?
@martinowlАй бұрын
@@newmotorcycleguy no not all the same size because the id of fuel hoses varies. If you measure the íd of the hose, you will know what size inline filter to get.
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
@@martinowl ok, thanks, i know what they are, ill get one sorted.

Was gonna say this last video but held off till we got to see this part. Scammed no, 100% thruthfull or knowledgeable prior owner - probably more than not. I was looking into getting a Bandit myself earlier this year and the biggest consensus was the carbs, either from crap in the tank or just being a bit sensative to sitting around. I'd imagine it's been used then sat, then used, then sat. The flaking of the tank's defo not helping right now. the bottom of the bowl that you showed us really wasn't that bad. Besides the flakes. I know some other folks have said but aye a bit of petrol in the tank with some nuts and botls and a few stones and a good 20 minutes or more using it as a marracca may do the trick. I've done that was a few smaller fuel tanks. Lots of ways to do these types of things, many folks swear by chemical. I know the yanks swear by that evaporust stuff. If I'm remembering right there was a comment mentioning the fuel tap is vaccumed operated and that carb having the line off it should have gone to that. I'd have to pull the manual out to inform myself properly. As for an inline fuel filter there are two or three different sizes but walking into a motor factors would be the easiest option there. Most bikes use the same size fuel line. It''d be fitted it to the fuel pipe after the fuel tap so you'd need an extra length of fuel line as well. So it'd be two birds one stone. Aye can's of carb clean can get pricey. I like the STP stuff myself though am not adverse to buying the can's the likes of Lidl/ALdi sell form time to time. Your part 1 video brought me to your channel bud, went back and am watching some of your older content. Keep it up and can't wait for the next part. 👍

thanks for the comment, really useful stuff. Really not my thing fixing these, 'I'm a nurse, not a mechanic!' This bike certainly hasn't had an easy life. I will be getting one of those fuel filters.
@Lupni3rdАй бұрын
@@newmotorcycleguy Sadly Suzi Bandits have two lifestyles, Hardly Ridden or Ridden Hard. I ended up picking up it's cousin in the end and got an RF600R. I imagine the fuel system is the same vaccum pump. I'm a hobbyist myself but my dad and uncle have taught me over the years. What is a mechanic but a nurse for engines 🤣 Good luck with it, hope to see a part 3 soon and good riding.

The knob on the bottom is to adjust the idle speed. For removing the cables, slacken off the adjuster nuts, slide the cable out of its holder, and then you have loads of free play. Then you can use needle nose pliers to unhook the end of the cable from the carbs. The other cable is then easy. The pipe is the vacuum line to the fuel tap (so the fuel tap only allows fuel to flow when the engine is running). Perfectly normal (although it looks like the pipe is non original so a minor chance it is crushing when the engine is running and the fuel tap not operating - unlikely though) Most of the bolts on those carbs look to have been replaced already. Suzuki / Mikuni didn't use allen key bolts on them. Those float bowls were not too bad! The carb diaphragms are remarkably expensive so be extra careful of those.
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
Thank you! Those cables were not to bad till i got the the return one!
@carlsimpson6964Ай бұрын
Sounds like it's running lean ie not getting enough fuel, before adjusting anything fit the other tail pipe first then check the mixture and float heights and revert to standard settings good luck 👍
@newmotorcycleguyАй бұрын
Thanks for the tips! This is what i have heard from a friend, i had no idea the exhaust would be an issue, I'm trying to source an OEM one. also the spark plugs are covered in carbon.
@carlsimpson6964Ай бұрын
@@newmotorcycleguy yes that's a sign it's not running correctly, an aftermarket exhaust needs more fuel and air but most just fit them without adjusting the mixture causing running problems where as a standard just needs standard settings ie less fuel and air.....I'm still learning fella but what a feeling when you fix them yourselves 🙂 hope this helps keep up the content 👍
