Andew, Had a chance to test out a pre-save campaign using Distrokids new successful presave pixel event and it has been interesting. Im still fiddling with it as I have not been able to get it to 50 conversions within the learning window but that is to be expected as presaves are a lot more involved and are a "bigger sell" than mere content views. That being said Ive managed to get the cost per presave down to 0.60 cents, which would be awful for content views but seeing as every presave is a guaranteed save on release day AND a guaranteed follow, it seems like a decent return we got hundreds of presaves within the first few days. It also fixes the "low quality engagement" issues with places like India because it only counts successful presaves as conversions.

Andrew, I've noticed that when I run the Worldwide Spotify countries, places like Russia & Ukraine are taking up the majority of the budget, although, when I look at the data on my Spotify for Artists, only around 10% of the conversions from those countries actually ended up in a 30+second stream. Thus I ended up finding the ratio of each country and found places like Mexico, Turkey, Chile & Brazil had a 70-80% ratio of converting on the landing page and then actually listening for 30+seconds. From here I made LLAs based on the top ratio countries, I also find where India only had a 25% ratio, the cost per conversion was so cheap that it was on par with the other countries I listed before. I'm curious is this something you've realized as well? If not I highly recommend you look into this as it's drastically lowered the cost of a unique listener & streams on Spotify for me.

1) I have a question - for clarity purposes.. Thank you for all your info and what you do.. So when publishing your ad - at first you don't use the correct links? Then you correct them later? Such as using a fanlink for a previous song? Then correcting the links - on the landing page - once the ad is approved? I'm confused on this part.. Facebook tends to approve my ads a day or so later.sometimes. 2) I've heard of situations where songs have been released for quite some time.. Then "things" happen to where the song begins picking up traction months down the road. Which then dominos the song into the spotify algorithm for more spread and reach? Have you heard of this? I'm wanting to advertise old music, and truly trying to gauge the importance of the first few days of release..
@onyxxproductions81874 жыл бұрын
Hello, we've been applying the information in his videos and we set up the ad with a link to a Hypeddit landing page that links to Spotify. I'm not sure what you mean by "correct links." We didn't go back and change anything, and I haven't seen him do that either in any of the videos I've seen. We started off promoting a song that has been out for over a year (mostly to test adsets and learn about how to use Facebook ads). Although you won't get the Release Radar push, songs actually start getting pushed out by the algorithm into the Daily Mixes first. The important metrics to watch are 1) number of saves 2) listener to save ratio 3) number of playlists 4) daily streams. Our older song got the first three slowly to a healthy level, but we didn't see any algorithmic activity until we did a streaming party. The next day, it was in Daily Mix and one artist as "fans also like." I'm not sure what number of streams makes the difference, but this song was below 30 per day with a slow build with the other metrics over months. We wanted to mimic a Release Radar push with the streaming party and it worked! We also pulled down another release and re-released it. It's very interesting because Spotify retains all of the old stream, playlist, and save data but treats it like a new release. We got a few Release Radar plays on release day. Both songs are in Daily Mixes. The algorithm took down the old artist Radio today and the "fans also like" is gone, so we think we are going to get more "fans also like" and a new Radio soon (hopefully). So, if you have good metrics on your songs, just start pushing them to build up the daily streams and profile activity. If one or more is way off (our second one was way behind because we weren't focussed on it while building up the first one), pull them down and rerelease them (one at a time). Also, we didn't just rely on Facebook ads. KZbin promoting, social media, DMing followers, going live, etc. Even getting family and friends to stream on release day. It all helps. We didn't do that the first time around and release day was a sad day after spending $1,000 on a PR company. Big mistake. Lesson learned.
@onyxxproductions81874 жыл бұрын
Oh, sorry... I get it now.. If you have an unreleased song and you are promoting it before release, you won't get the link for the song until it's live on Spotify. So, then you get the link for the song once it is live on Spotify and go edit the ad to put the new link in. You don't need to do that for an older song that is already on Spotify. Sorry, we didn't switch the link out for a new release because we linked to the profile instead of the song.

Oh I totally got screwed on Audience Network, especially with the African countries. Over 700 conversions in one day without a single stream. Wasted over 100 dollars. I would recommend just turning it off. Once I went to manual placements my cost per conversion increased, but I actually started getting streams. I typically run with 5 or so ad sets with 3 ads in each ad set, no variances on each ad. For your budget i'd launch with more like 5 or 6 ad sets, 3 ads in each. Then after the first 2 days turn off the bad performing ad sets, make a new ad set to try something new, then keep doing that every couple days to try new things out.

Question, is there anyway to start off promotion on Instagram, then later go to Facebook and edit it?
@onyxxproductions81874 жыл бұрын
Yes, Andrew started off only promoting on stories. We started off only promoting on Instagram Feeds after following the advice of another channel. The reason everyone switches to Facebook feeds is that the Facebook in stream videos and other options are usually cheaper. We almost always end up turning off IG feeds and stories now because it almost always costs more. If you are looking for a lot of streams on release day, you want cheap traffic. For ongoing promotion, IG is the better option because you are more likely to get IG followers and visitors to your profile.

I do not understand the last example. If I used Facebook advertisements, I can see in the conversions how many people clicked on the link. The rest would have to come via submithub etc. Or did I understand something wrong?
@AndrewSouthworth4 жыл бұрын
Not everyone will end up streaming or saving. So you can’t track the data as accurately. You’d have a good guess, but it will be less accurate than if you only used one promotion type.

What countries are you targeting? I think i saw you mention in another video that you target all countries with spotify but how do you navigate thru the countries that are known to have high "bot traffic" like India, Brazil, The Philippines, etc...
@AndrewSouthworth4 жыл бұрын
Bots on FB / IG are using the API's for the platforms, and are programmed to interact with the platform, if they click a link theirs almost no chance they'd be able to go to the web page and fire off the conversion event. So conversion campaigns in a way shield you from bots. I think Audience network fails, but I think bots on there might be more of the 'web crawling' fashion, which means they're actually designed to load web pages and thats why audience network can fail every so often.

If you haven't done this before, the more impressions it takes to make a conversion, the higher the cost for the conversion. Watch your campaign constantly all day and turn off adsets and launch new ones if you are getting lots of impressions and no conversions for an adset. You can only have multiples of $1 in adsets for each campaign (so only 5 adsets for a $5 a day campaign), but you can make new adsets if you turn one off first. Don't be afraid to target super famous artists who don't sound like your music if they are in the same or similar genre. Our release is next Friday, but we are testing audiences now at $5 a day and have been for over a week. Selena Gomez is doing well! Adding in audience networks per his previous video screwed up all of our data and we had to start over. Thank god this didn't happen on release day.

@@consumer365 So, you're missing several hours of Andrew's videos with his journey of trying different things over many months. You can watch his playlist, but he has changed things since then. Here's the gist of what he does now: 1) set up a Facebook pixel (for retargeting later) 2) set up a smart link page with Hypeddit (paid) or Hyperfollow (free with Distrokid) and use the pixel on the page (don't use the free ToneDen smart link page - a lot of us had bad results with it... the paid version seems to work fine) - do this to weed out bot clicks so you don't have to pay for them 3) only put one link to Spotify or Spotify and Apple Music on your smart link page and don't include a preview 4) use test event in the event manager so Facebook registers clicking the link on your smart link page as a conversion even - you will have to hunt around in custom conversions to activate the conversion event depending on what smart link you used (view content is only for ToneDen) 5) set up a new campaign with conversions, optimization on, and a daily campaign budget 6) within that campaign make an adset targeting one famous artist or band who sounds kind of like your music (even remotely... the more famous, the better) and use Spotify countries (Google to look them up) for locations and use "Spotify" as the filter 7) Click on "manual placements" and then uncheck audience network 8) use several versions of ads (you will need one vertical for stories and a square for other placements) for this first adset... make the first ad and click publish and then click "duplicate" under the ad to add more different ads to the adset - the more different ads, the better 9) publish and then go to the published adset to hit "duplicate" to make a second adset targeting a different famous artist or band and leave all the adset and ad settings the same 10) if you have past ads, you can make a custom audience and a Look-alike audience instead of targeting a famous person or band 11) continue making adsets targeting different famous artists or bands (or audiences) - you will need a campaign budget of $1 minimum for each adset, so $10 daily campaign budget for 10 adsets... Watch them closely on release day and add more or turn off as needed.... he usually does like $25 $30 on release day, but you can do $10 or $15... he doesn't recommend to do too much more per day or it wastes a lot of money and doesn't seem to help... so you can keep all of that in mind and watch his playlist, just keep in mind that he has changed his approach since he first started doing this One more tip of my own: Set all your devices to loop at midnight and play your song all day... go live on and off throughout the day and have your followers do the same... family, friends, everybody you know just on release day.. make it like a telethon the first day... don't just count on Facebook ads, in my opinion... you can tell where the streams are coming from in the audience section of your dashboard so you can separate your streams from the ones coming from ads... that's what we're doing next week... we relied on just promo last time and it was a disappointing day... tell everyone you know and have them add it to their playlists... the number of personal playlists and saves are way more important than streams, actually, but streams are the only things other people can see. Another overlooked promotion method is to DM followers of bands you sound like. You can do about 50 cold DMs on Instagram a day, but something like only 20 per hour. Don't get your account locked on release day. Not good, so spread them out. The first day of release is the most important, but the first 28 days are important, too, so keep promoting. Good luck!!! Or should I say, "Good work!!" because this is more work than luck!

How do you get these really cheap results with the conversions, Im getting like $1.35 the least I get is $0.75. Ive tried multiple audiences and creatives and still can't get it to go down
@vxd4 жыл бұрын
it could be your audience is too narrow, or the ad is not workng for some reason. Also facebook algorithm needs to time to find the audience for you. There are lots of factors, like possibly your audio is switched on in your landing page, etc. If you havent already I would watch some of Andrew's earlier videos on how he setups up ad campaigns.
@onyxxproductions81874 жыл бұрын
Yes, and also make sure you are targeting all of the Spotify countries. If you are targeting the US right now, your ad cost will be high because of the election unless you target 13-17 year olds. Also, if the artist you are targeting is promoting a release, that ad auction will be higher. Keep switching audiences, but give each one enough time to optimize and find the right people before giving up. The number of impressions it takes to get a conversion determines the ad cost, so when you see that climbing with no conversion, it will end up being high for the first one. We have been having the same problem but more like $.40 on average. We just tried super famous people, not even close in sound and Selena Gomez has been more like $.20 so far. Keep trying. Andrew constantly changes tactics as he learns new things.

i would disagree. KZbin ads result in low stats like 1% watch time and kill your channel watch time which can tank your organic reach. Facebook ads don't affect your social media directly like that and you can gain followers even from a bad performing ad.

@@onyxxproductions8187 so you basically saying that I should FB Ads more then YT Ads, ok
@AndrewSouthworth4 жыл бұрын
I have it in my queue of things to try out. I did some in the past with bad results, but it was before I knew what I was doing. In general if you're using in-stream ads, you want to have the ad be unlisted and the link to the public video so the ad views that don't convert don't crush your channel / video's watch time metric. But you could also do a search or display based YT ad, and then you'd use the actual video. Either way music is kind of weird to promote on KZbin ads at the moment i've found. Music videos can be promoted, but even then i'd rather just upload the video to Facebook in its entirety I think.

We made an adset with a $1 limit in the campaign that has India and the other countries that suck all the traffic out of the campaign and we only turned on Audience network on that one campaign. If all the streams start going to just one placement, we turn it off for a day or so. So that's our crap adset. Lots of conversions at low costs, but we don't include them in the totals because we aren't expecting them to turn into streams. My theory is that people in poor countries aren't paying for premium so they only have the shuffle option on their phones. They can only play your track if they add it to a playlist and shuffle. I think that's why there are fewer streams from poor countries and cities. One reason, anyway.
@chinazoofficialszn4 жыл бұрын
do you think Russia and Ukraine is a nice place to include in the countries, seems im getting really good streams from them and i noticed that even though i added the two countries much later, a lot of traffic is now going there and its converting, and im not getting much from germany and netherlands again.
@onyxxproductions81874 жыл бұрын
@@chinazoofficialszn Yes, any first world countries like that. The third world countries like Indonesia, India, Algeria, etc. have such cheap ad auctions that Facebook will send the majority of your traffic there if you include them with other Spotify countries. We started with just India separate and then added other countries when their numbers were climbing faster than other countries. We also checked the cities, and in India, they are often the bottom poorest cities in India. We may try targeted the wealthier cities in these countries and see how that works. I don't think they are just click farms. Like I said, I doubt they have premium and it's really hard to play a song on Spotify if you don't have premium. You have to add it to a playlist and play the whole playlist, pretty much. I'm pretty sure some people are doing that because we have gotten some streams from these countries.

@AndrewSouthworth4 жыл бұрын
If you have a plan to sell products to people in the near future, then it would make sense to only target countries where people are likely to have money to buy from, and ones that you can afford to ship to reasonably. If you're trying to grow your music by itself and aren't selling merch in the next few months, just go with the whole batch of countries. You can make a lot of money selling merch and other products with Facebook ads, Indepreneur has a lot of courses revolving around this and they're a great resource for knowledge either way. Eventually i'll get some content testing out my own merch based campaigns.
